I've seen a few videos on these paints and most are saying organic areas work best. I've seen entire models painted with contrast and i don't like them. But i think they can work very well in conjunction with other paints, it's just a matter of finding what works. I'm a little hesitant to use them as a new painter so I'm super keen to see where guys like you find the best uses for them.
If I was working through hords for AOS or something like that then yeap I'd get a few of these paints and go nuts. I think they are great for the new people painting and want to get models on the table painted and work on techniques later on. I'll have another vid out soon on this
For a long time post-Contrast paint I've been handmixing a sort of DIY alternative (6 drops matt medium, 1 drop airbrush thinner, 1 drop acrylic ink) but Apothecary White is still a favorite I buy in the pot. Never quite managed to mix a nice subtle grey shade like it. Then again I tend to only use white on things like tabards, so it may be different for an all-white army.
I use it a lot more then i ever though i would. Its def come in handy now for my small detailed white bits on aos models lol. I think its time I do a 2.0 of this vid.
I plan on trying spraying mine white scar, covering with apoth, going in between the panels with agrax earthshade, and then drybrushing white scar again. Then finishing up the other details on the model.
I actually didn’t know. I assumed there was a Tau army somewhere based on the channel name. I’m gonna pick some of this Contrast paint up when I go to do an actual Apothecary because painting white has always scared me. When I did my Contrast intro they said to put it on really thick and then wick away the pooling as it starts to dry. Just like you did on the drone. It takes a bit of playing around with from my experience. In some cases I think painting the old way will actually be quicker. I won’t know until I try it out. I’d be interested to see you try it out over the Wraith Bone base. I think that’ll really work well. I’d also like to see some decent grey Contrast vids so I can decide what to do with my Space Wolves. I don’t like the blue-grey they use now. I want mine to be grey.
There is a really nice grey in contrast range I forget the name. But I'll give it a try for you as I'm painting a space wolf for a friend 😁. Also I might just out my tau and show it off. I was nervous at first painting white it's kinda why I started tau to teach myself and now it's easy for me. I'll have a second vid I think after I paint all 24 firewarriors
My advice as a fellow Crimson Fists player - try Ultramarine Blue, as I found the Leviadon too dark and it didn't give a lot of highlight. I prefer somewhat brighter Fists.
Naive vid mate, I was I was pleasantly surprised with the results. When I picked up some contrast paints the other week, I steered clear of the white as I wasn't convinced by it, but I might have to take another look
Hey. So do a test one first always to see if you like it. I highly recommend thinning down the apothecary (thats what i do these days) and once you put it on leave it alone lol. Try not to move it about much unless you really have to. One day ill revisit this vid and do a 2.0

I've gotten a decent white finish using ulthuan over corax spray on my last couple (im only 3 deep so far, plenty of learning to come) Also I agree that a darker armor lining is preferable, but you'd need a bionic hand to be neat enough with nuln oil over that apothecary (cant touch up with it i guess?). Also yes those pants came out nicely. I am thinking of using black templar contrast for my Pathfinder's pants, we shall see.
😁69. And I painting that apothecary by hand but I used drakenhof instead and it was much easy to paint over. All my other tau is nuln oil and you do need stead hands for that and patience. I'm using the grey contrast paint for the pants I went out and got more contrast stuff 😁 they are a really handy tool to have
@@ggminiaturegaming I had meant the apothecary paint for the firewarrior, not your awesome apothecary space marine model (: Yep ive hit a wall painting, and finally got a pathfinder box. Will have pants a plenty to experiment on.
iv been paiting these for over 2 years now and the small units are always where i just give up and move on to something else but after using just 2 contrast paints and then my normal paints iv done close to 24 now in the few short hours iv had this week to paint. i have 36 in total to paint up.

The contrast red? Works amazing to add shading to the cloaks on Skitarii that are base painted with mephiston red.

Sounds like a great plan. Just have some white scar hand to clean up anything just incase.
@@ggminiaturegaming update. I hated it. Lmao I just primed them white scar, did the panel lining with nuln oil, and the. Cleaned up with white scar.
Think the best thing to do is paint the full model and base it. This will give you a better idea of what the complete model would look like

Naive? I'm actaully really happy with it and pleasently supprised I'm going to finish off the 12 and possibly the other 12 😁 I want more colours
The white has been the most impressive contrast paint so far.
Interesting side note that IV only just noticed. It drys super smooth I ran my figure over the turret top and it's was like glass smooth
