The haste to show the painting in a short time led to a messier application and the need to go back over to make corrections. Normally I would expect less aggressiveness.
well I've just subscribed. This also sold me on the contrast paints. Im not a bad painter (by no means a pro) but Im not fast and Im tired of quarter complete or half complete armies.
Ok, I wasn't really too thrilled with this line of paints, but congratulations to you since you sold me on one of them! That snakebite leather for strings and ropes will come in handy!!!!
Incredible result, especially for a 40 minutes job. I think contrast will be awesome to test to give translucency to models, for example, when you're building skin/veins effect, texture or anything else. Can't wait to try them
I could listen to Kris narrate just about anything for hours on end. He was blessed with not only painting skills and creativity but also just the most soothing/calming voice. He is like bob ross but with an epic mustache instead of afro.
I really really really like the video. 😍 Going through exact steps on how you paint, showing the colors used and how you use them. I am pretty sure i could paint kinda the same result having watched this and never painted before👍 Nice look with the blending from the blue to the yellow, please do more of this kind
As a guy that just ordered his first ever set the idea of painting was always a terrifying one. After this video I'm actually really looking forward to it now. Thanks so much for this video. Subbed up and ready for more
I think dry brushing a righter warm or cold white over the top of the model before applying the contrast paint would help really make the details pop, I do this when painting with inks which is very similar
40 MINUTES! Oh man this are so in my to buy list now. Finally I can pound out some minis and save time for the centerpieces that I want to make perfect!
Looks pretty awesome for not too much effort! Very useful info. Thanks for this video! Now I think I can make a judgement wether or not to invest in a few bottles for my next project.
My kairos fateweaver needs these paints, i was a little apprehensive going in to paint him but these will make a layering shade across tzeentch wings alot easier, thanks man!
Really digging the blues of this range so far. Not so sold on the yellow though 🤔 Wonder if it'll look better on a smaller model, like Iyanden wraithguard or some shiz.
i think the yellow will need a lil more work then just the contrast paint, im interested to see it in person though sometimes the videos dont quite do colors justice
Whoa. I've got a lot of Seraphon to do myself and had been planning on Ultamarine/Talassar Saurus with one red and one green Carnosaur. But those blue stripes, *damn.* I might have to switch my main troop to a blue-green hue and do one of my dinos like this myself...
Interesting! So one of the strong characteristics (glazing over the (wraitbbone) base colour) is also one of its weak characteristics because you have to be dead accurate to get rid of the transition colour between them, in this case the green if you dont want that. Which means it functions best when the surfaces have clearly separated structures.
From all the videos of Contrast paints I've seen it seems like they work really bad on symmetrical and artificial surfaces (anything technological, space marines, etc.), pooling up where they shouldn't and giving quick and very mediocre effects. But on organic, assymetrical, rugged surfaces like this magnificent Carnosaur model they really do shine! I guess they would also be really good for things like GW's Death World scenery. I'm interested to see more.
In one video you have shown how easy it will be to paint an Imperial Fist, Thousand Sons, Ultramarines, or Iyanden army. I had planned on clearing my back log of models, I just didn't realize I could do it in a month.
What colors did you paint the rider? Does the contrast paint work on the actual Saurus this well? I am looking to do something similar but wondering about the above.
Damn this looks really good. I brought a start box of Lizardmen today and cant wait to paint this. As I brought a starter box in the store I get to use their paints too so im looking forward to trying out the new contrasts.
Very nice effect given the time spent which is I suppose the whole point of this range I would like to know if they can be used through an airbrush to similar effect and if this same effect/method could be achieved using artist acrylic inks as I'm sure they would work out cheaper
All day. Think of this paint as a single drop of liquid. It wants to pool into recessed areas. As it dries it will tend to pull itself into the cracks staining what is left behind and concentrating in the deepest most irregular areas making it darker and more saturated. The key is to get 1 coat on entirely and quickly so it dries all at the same time
I think this method is so much more realistic than 40 hours per mini. Especially for us D&D players. I have hundreds of printed minis to paint and good enough is good enough.
Which of the contrasts comes closest to Lamenters yellow glaze you think? I hate the fact that they took it out as I can not finish half my army now unless one of these contrasts is an exact match.
Would these work well for the Leviadon for the Idoneth? I used to paint minis a loooooonng time ago and I'm just now getting back into it and chose. Difficult army to paint. I am only looking for tabletop ready and fun with maybe a little more detail.
Hey, these paint give me na interesting idea. Can you guys please check how would dark colours look over other coat that wraithbone/greyseer? The idea is that could you with brigth red basecoat and one layer of black contrast paint create black Armour with red „reflections”? If you guys take into consideration our requests here in comments section of course :)
Kris Belleau Please do :) I’ve got a feeling that contrasts offer way more new possibilities than speeding up painting, and im very curious if that could be one of them
The results are fantastic. I'm just weary of investing more money into a bunch of more "paints", especially if I have to get a GW primer, which I feel are overpriced. Its just something I'll run out of very fast.
Looks amazing! Still a bit worried about the green showing up in between the colors. I know you mentioned re-applying the primer on those areas but there was still a lot of green left. Is it inevitable that you'll have the colors visually combined like that?
the applied wraithbone is not primer it is a "base" colour. as far as avoiding color blending, you have to apply the paint carefully at borders and such. But that applies in almost all cases in painting miniatures.
Literally all you have to do is not slop one color over the other. He went super fast with a giant brush, which is why that happened. An extra 10 minutes is all you need at home to avoid it.
Could you do a video that uses contr contrast paint to paint human skin unless you have already. I tried to follow warhammer tv's tutorial but they do not allow questions so I can't ask where/how I messed up.
In the future painting minis will be quick and easy... ...which means proportionally the time spent on removing mold lines will increase. Maybe I should start telling people my hobby is miniature moldline removal.
I've heard they dry out INSANELY quick though - is that true? I still have some old colours from around 2004 that are still instact, but I see the world now is more and more about buying new things instead of having something for eternity.
How to you think these would work on lotr models? The scale is obviously different and not as many open areas like the other game systems have. Plenty of different details on them.
That looks amazing for the time spent! Only thing I would have fixed was the chest recess because you could really see the water droplet effect. Other than that, pretty awesome!
Best video from MWG yet showing how the contrast paints work.
Wow. That is a fantastic result for the time spent.
Wow that looks great especially for how quick it was.
40 minutes?! That's incredible!
that was amazing and really demonstrates the power of this new line of paints
The haste to show the painting in a short time led to a messier application and the need to go back over to make corrections. Normally I would expect less aggressiveness.
For forty minutes and working for speed, not precision, amazing.
Might have to invest in these once my current paints need replacing.
Yep, that's definitely what these paints were made for.
well I've just subscribed. This also sold me on the contrast paints. Im not a bad painter (by no means a pro) but Im not fast and Im tired of quarter complete or half complete armies.
Probably the best showcase of this paint method I have seen yet. Well done!
Ok, I wasn't really too thrilled with this line of paints, but congratulations to you since you sold me on one of them! That snakebite leather for strings and ropes will come in handy!!!!
I’m not a fan generally of these paints but the browns are fantastic and the skin tones are great as a base coat and work great with zenithal priming.
All I can say is WOW Chris, I will have to be getting me some of those paints on pre-order this weekend, once again thanks for the vid.

Amazing work! Love to see Quick Tip's back!
This is insane... With a few paints like these, even a newbie can paint to a decent standard in no time? I'm so impressed by the speed and quality!
Hey thanks for the video! I can see why some don't like the paint but I think it will be great as a base coat!
I really really really like the video. 😍

just getting back into painting models. Will definitely be trying this on my sauros models! Brilliant video!

This looks way better than any of the non-organic stuff.
Absolutely amazing for 40 minutes work. Contrast paints seem made for the Dinosaurs
Definitely. I imagine skin and such somes off with a more stained look.
Thank you, I was waiting to see this kind of tutorial. Nobody else has really explained how it's used, they just film themselves using it.
Really nice model and great guide!
Those blues are just wow!
Haven't played Warhammer Fantasy since AoS came out, but this is making me want to buy a Carnosaur and paint it like this.
Mindblown! Amazing results for only 40 mins work. May pickup Seraphon after all, painting those huge dinosaurs looked intimidating, but this is cool.
This would be an interesting use case for wet-blending the yellow and blue so you don't get any splotchy transitions between them.
Really digging the blues of this range so far. Not so sold on the yellow though 🤔

I think he should have used the terrain green instead or a more fleshy underbelly, the yellow kinda fucks it.
Great video and paintjob. Thanks for this
Definetely gonna try this out! Very Nice video :) and damm that carnosaur looks good 😍
I have a 1500+ point army that I am working on painting and would love to see more Seraphon tips. Great video!

Wow. I suddenly have the urge to do Seraphon.
That primer color looks like grey seer. Awesome work
Seeing how you can quickly clean up mistakes with the base paint out of the pot I’m really excited to finish up painting my imperial fists army
I was wondering how the new paints would look on larger minis and this is just stunning.
Love contrast. Especially since it doesnt dry up into uselessness

The blending effect is really interesting though it'll take some getting used to coming from opaque paints.

Can the contrast paints be mixed before application? I would buy yellow, blue and red and go from there. Do they mix with Vallejo Inks?
Contrast paints can be mixed together, but should not be mixed with other paints/shades/inks, because of their specific medium.
So do you have to prime your models in a white or light colour so that the contrast paints? or will it work with black primer to give a darker colour
WOOOW
nice..
So do I actually need to wet blend if they blend visually?
Do you need to wetblend? only if it achieves your desired end result.
Kris Belleau I mean, do wet blend and visual blend give the same/similar result given the transparency of the paint?
@@InvasiveWargaming In theory yes. In practice I suspect there is a slight difference.
