Long time Bills fan here. The Bills have had a top tier spinal injury team for a long time. Nearly 20 years ago, a player suffered a severe neck injury on a kick return and suffered spinal cord damage. The team doctors managed to stabilize the spine and get him to the local hospital for surgery. The day of the injury he didnt have feeling in his limbs and nearly died. But due to the Bills team doctor and the training staffs quick response he was walking again a year later. Look up Kevin Everett. Bills dont mess with spine injuries

Thank you for the information! I cringed when I saw they play...and then ESPN showed what happened! The part of them loading the player up brought back my injury in 1977, when my patella tendon detached from the tibia when the tibia broke. I also tore my Vastus Lateralis away from the bone, which ended up getting infected twice, and the lower 8 inches of the muscle was removed. Also about 80% of the Meniscus was torn, and was also removed.
I have lived with the screw through my patella tendon for 45 years....it really lets me know when the weather is changing. I have also been bone on bone since 1999, when my last injury to the left knee happened. My current Orthopedic doctor examined my X-Ray and MRI's from 1999 looked at it and all the documents, and told me, " I do not want to know what happened to this leg!"

A few weeks ago I fell face forward. It happen so fast, I was barely able to extend my arms, to soften the blow. In addition to having the wind knocked out of me. The pain was beyond excruciating. I am lucky that I fell in the hallway of the hospital on my way to hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). And the emergency response team was called and took me straight to the emergency room.
Cat scan of head was normal. X-rays of spine showed a anterior wedge fracture in T 11. The next day, I returned to hyperbarics to continue HBOT treatment of lower leg wound. Within a week, of daily HBOT. My back stopped hurting and I regained full range of motion in my spine.
Another great thing about HBOT. I had swelling in the left hemisphere of my brain for two years. As the result of a concussion. With all follow up Cat Scans and MRIs unchanged, prior to HBOT. With no edema noted in Cat Scan after recent fall. That I credit as a secondary blessing of HBOT. In addition to achieving lower leg wound healing after 16 months of multiple debridement surgeries and reoccurring soft tissue infections.
My heart goes out to this player. Spinal injures with intact movement, makes the simplest of task difficult to preform and painful.
While HBOT cannot be sold as a cure all. My hyperbaric doctors cannot really say the healing of my brain is the result of HBOT. I believe college & NFL football programs should consider medical level HBOT as treatment options for injured players.

A friend once broke the body of C4 or C5. Early in the situation, his left arm started flopping back and forth from his shoulder to his waist. At one point, he caught his left hand with his right hand and started feeling it. He asked, "What is this? What is this?" I answered, "That's your left hand." He told me that he couldn't feel anything with his left hand or arm. He also had an open skull fracture, so I don't know whether the blow to the head or the broken body of the vertebra caused that numbness. I seem to remember putting his left hand in something so that it wouldn't flop. I had extra socks in my pack, and I ended up putting socks over his hands to try to hold in warmth. Hypothermia was the mechanism that came closest to killing him.

Gruesome injury, but I’d like to understand everything that went into that injury doc. Weird of TH-cam to decide where to draw the line on these things when it was a legitimate sports injury shown on national tv

Hey. Last weekend there was a texas tech player (college football) who had one of the worst broken legs I've ever seen. His name is Bryce Ramirez. I was wondering if you could analyze that. Love the vids by the way.

I actually just had an injury like that in September playing football I hit a guy and my whole left arm went numb but it was hurting so bad after half time my trainer looked at me and I lost strength in my arm and three of my fingers and my wrist felt like my arm was sleeping. Had that feeling for a month and lost muscle mass in my arm. Trainer said it was a pinched nerve, I felt a sharp pain sometimes turning my neck or looking up or down.

I am an old man now and back in the day, players didn't launch themselves as human spears. They used their shoulders and closed the gate by wrapping up the runner/receiver/Qb. Until these spear tackles stop, horrific injuries will continue to pile up.

Can you compare this injury to Johnny Knox's injury? Seems like a very similar position

When are players going to learn/be taught, do not fire your body into a play when the tackle has been made and the ball carrier down. It happens all the time, like they are trying to hurt someone, and quite often it is their own teammate.

Update: CB Dane Jackson underwent tests last night and there is no major injury to his neck or spinal cord. He's been released from the hospital and will continue further evaluation today.

Glad he was OK. When I had my freeway motorcycle accident the first thing the paramedic did was twist off my helmet which woke me up from a 15+ minute concussion. Obviously he didn't know I had a track helmet on or knowledge of modern helmets where I have pull tags to remove cushion to easily remove my $900 helmet. Paramedics could use a little more education lol. They also make neck rings that some riders wear (stunt rider Jason Briton) which had his neck broke before, and prevents those snap backs

I was more worried about his throat area honestly, but I guess that area wasn't directly hit and I guess the trachea/ esophagus don't get affected as bad by over extension backwards?

From the first angle it's one of those things where you're thinking "OMG where is his neck? It looks like just shoulder pads with no head or neck!" the back angle looks a bit better, but still gives me the heebie jeebies.

What also concerned me is the Titans player's actions of shoving Dane as he was still down on the field.... Glad Dane is doing better....
