In 1972 cod were prolific from the beach, pier and boats at Deal in Kent. This is the story of two local cod that are the largest and longest recorded at that time - and have not been beaten since. Captors were Brian Maidment and Peter Menhenick.

Remember catching cod in the 50's with my Dad, Bert Richards, but this was from the beach and of course nowhere as big.

We caught a 54lbs cod out by the sticks but that was on a long line.i think it was 1974
