5 hurricanes in 2 years have devasted the West Coast of Florida from Naples to the big bend and if this is the new normal it will have profound affects on how people inhabit Florida. My home built in 1950 had never had flooding of any consequence till Idalia put 2 feet in the foyer and a bedroom which I spent 2 months repairing myself. Then Helene trashed the home with 4.5 feet of puttid water. I'm not repairing it this time as a fortress home 12 feet in the air is needed and i don't have the energy to deal with that now. I appreciate all the people who claim they will rebuild but unfortunately it could be for not if these massive hurricanes continue! Im a lifelong resident of Florida and obviously the weather has changed.
I’m so happy I sold my house 3 years ago. After 34 years in Florida dealing with the stress every summer, I decided it’s not worth it. Too many other nice areas in the world
Every time a storm starts forming in the gulf I'd be in knots. Even if it doesn't hit - how much worry and stress can a person take? And the summers are too hot! No thanks.
I live in Sarasota 2 miles east of Siesta Key. Thank goodness the damage I sustained was only fencing (almost all knocked down) and tree damage. I only wish someone would knock on my door, lol. I can't get any of the fencing companies or tree guys to even call back and I have a pretty large job - at least $10K worth but no one will even respond they are all so busy.
The idea of having to rebuild your house because of flooding - having to move out for an extended period, the costs, that just seems nuts when you can rent instead. As a renter you can just move to another house/apartment and resume your life as if nothing happened. Hard to understand why people put themselves through it.
Although that may sound good my daughter, when she was renting, lost everything during hurricane Irma . It is not just so easy to move on as if nothing has happened.
I think all the people should only live in certain spot of the area but due to the hurricane knowing that it will not flood the house. Also now gotta think about the heavy wind with tornado too that comes in with the hurricane. I believe if it is built safe and knowing that it won't flood then it should be ok, only if it will handle the tornado. Live at your own risk in Florida for everyone.
Very nice video . Hope everyone is safe. Love the vulture or investor talk . Would love to see a vulture video. Meaning show the Realestate deals. When appropriate.
Thanks so much. I have definitely been thinking about a video regarding investors. I want to be sensitive to so many that are trying to make tough decisions right now. Appreciate you watching.
Eventually hurricanes are going to come back if not Nxt year the year after. Stress is overwhelming after storms. Stress before stress during then the clean up. Harvey was a beast here in H town. The ptsd guilt is real !!!
We live right on Tampa Bay on Anna Maria Island and I have to say anxiety is the perfect word to describe the feeling when a Hurricane hits. We got lucky, minimal damage. But I will say I will not deal with this much longer. I'm getting to old for the stress. We will repair and then decide whether to stay or sell. Michigan is pretty boring when it comes to weather. Boring is good. Hate the winters but can always fly to somewhere warm when we need to get away. Then there are the property taxes and insurance? Another story.
They better hurry up and get to renourishing the beaches or the neap tides in the winter will flood alot of these houses again. Its simple really, if you want a house in FL, make sure it is at least 1 mile from the coast, canal, river, lake, etc and buy in a place that has a history of no flooding from excess rain. Preferably, buy in a place that is 20 to 60 feet above sea level and don't buy in new developments.
It is to be hoped that the Sarasota area can get through at least one year without a hurricane. This should allow enough time to rebuild before the next hurricane hits.
Although we have had a rough year here in Sarasota, after living in the area for a number of years, the great news is we do not experience hurricanes every year. It is Florida however and we always need to be concerned and prepared.
Devasted! The hurricane took a couple letters from the title word devastated too! … All joking aside. Many of us were very lucky, lucky the storm weakened just before landfall. Many not in good shape though. I do wonder if it’s time to call it quits being in a hurricane prone state. The anxiety that goes with this, and the stress of evacuating, I don’t think is worth it.
Many of the homes and first floor condos had severe flood damage. Lots of tree limbs all over. It did fair much better than Ft. Myers did during Ian. I think most people would be surprised that over 60 businesses are open and trying to get back to business.
@@nshaver24 totally correct I got wiped out in the crash of 2009 lost two nice houses been renting ever since and I'm ready to make a comeback and pounce in about 1 year from now when these prices go down 40%

In Puerto Rico, we learn to live with hurricanes; the houses are built with concrete (including the roof). This means lower maintenance costs, lower insurance costs, and fewer construction materials because your house lasts longer without repairs. But the government wants to keep it that way due to special interests from banks and construction companies. They make a lot of money that way. When Florida’s residents gonna learn?? Florida's worst enemy is greed.
That is great information. I was actually speaking with someone and I could see tile roofs being required along all of the coastal cities. Not sure when that would happen but it is a good idea.
I moved from Florida although it’s beautiful… I was tired of many things hurricanes were actually the last thing on my list when I was there, they didn’t have that many hurricanes. It was only once in a while lately it’s been pretty consistent… The only problem that I dislike is the entire United States has to pay higher insurance rates when Florida has a hurricane. Now it’s even worse my insurance jumped up 100% because of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. I’m tired of paying for someone to live near Water or in the mountains When they shouldn’t be.. and there’s more to come. This is the problem.👁🖖🏼
20 years from now?? This will become a yearly event! Water rise is real! Water that was dripping off of glaciers in Greenland & Antarctica 20 years ago are raging rivers now… I’m on the coast in Destin with a contract on my house… I’m going to Lisbon Portugal… The Florida coast on the Gulf is done…
Where do you go anyplace but Florida. We moved to Spokane Washington yes it snows but not bad I would rather put up with snow and some cold than ever live in Florida ever again. The land on the beaches or not to far from the beaches might be physically underwater from another hurricane in the not to distant future!

Might decrease a little? No one wants to come into a neighborhood that is so damaged. They will be lucky if they can give these properties away!
