"May new sufferings torment your soul." - Søren Kierkegaard
What a great quote, I don't know if you are a poet or writer or where you found this but I feel it is so appropriate for most of the singer/songwriters we have lost in the last 20 years. Thank you for posting.
I feel this may be the other way around. As to say a poet is a happy person surrounded by the unhappiness of the world. One soul can only take so many abominations before it reflects the things around it
truth.... especially with regards to this song. Askin him to sing this song over and over likely had an effect to sink him deeper and deeper into the despair that led to the composition of this beautifully tragic piece.
I prefer this version. His emotion, the way he emotes, the way he sits in the stool, the way he strokes the strings on his guitar, the way his face is blackened out, the intimacy I feel from this man delivers a beautiful message about the song that he is singing. I listened to this during the eclipse and it made me feel like I mattered and didn't matter at all..and that all things matter in the grand design. The blackhole sun purifies me.

The music of the 90's was dark and depressing, but helatiously moving. I was struggling with depression and couldn't take a long listen to as it would send me in a spiral, but damn if it didn't hit me where I lived.
I can't believe it...Chris died...God I must be dreaming...Oh no...we lost one of the greatest artists of all time...I know his voice will remain forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, Chris Cornell...
Chris Cornell will never die out. His voice is a beautiful gift to us . Both hard and acoustic . I remember when his first song hit mtv. I was like wow he is a sexy beast and a killer voice. Then he started to do acoustic stuff after Temple of the dogs and it made me love him more. Him and Eddie Vedder can sing almost anything.
It's so sad that Eddie lost his best friend to the Queen of Collections. Listen to "Comes then Goes" on Gigaton by Pearl Jam. It is so true and so sad.
The black hole you left in our hearts will never heal, Chris. You are sorely missed. At least you played for your fans before checking out. That's very nice of you. Thank you for getting me through my teenage years. You were an awesome human being and a very phenomenal artist. Rest easy, friend.
Thank you very much Folaholic for posting this video, I keep coming back to it every now and then. A guy and his guitar, and a voice gods can only dream of.
I was fortunate enough to meet Chris about 10 years ago at the music studio I was interning at. He was performing a solo show in Cleveland that night so he came to record a podcast for AP Magazine that was upstairs from the studio. He was very friendly. I shook his hand and told him I love everything he's done. I sat and listened intently as he spoke about his life and the history of grunge/his entire career. It was magical. He was a magical person. Such a goddamn shame we lost him. RIP to one of the greatest voices/artists music has ever known.
I was in my mid-twenties when "grunge" rock started in the early 90's. I listened to a few of the bands - Soundgarden was one. It was his voice that sold me on the band. So much power, range, and it hit home with me. Then it was the lyrics, and finally the music itself. Well time goes on and things change - I lost track of time and Chris' music slipped away from me. I'd only recently re-discovered him, going back through Audioslave and finally his solo work. I never thought his passing would affect me the way it has. Thank you, Fola, for sharing this with us. It means a lot to many of us.
I remember hearing this song for the first time in the spring of 1994 when I was just turning 25... Would do anything to live that summer over again.... The music, the love, the fun...
Man. I guess you don't really realize how much you like someone till they are gone. I was certainly a fan. I'm a 44 year old white guy. I was not prepared for how bad I feel that he is gone. We lost a voice of a generation. You will be missed R.I.P. C.C.
hardly been underrated as one of their top if not the top listened to songs by soundgarden. If you listen to interviews it was highly rated by all of his peers in the day as a new yardstick to measure their own material by.
P.S. in defense of Fola Romero: People, can you not appreciate the masterfulness of this song despite the low video resolution? Grow up and look past it to Chris' brilliance! Fola, thanks so much for posting this.
As someone who's spent the last 6 years actively trying to sing to accompany my guitar playing, I find it hard to wrap my mind around someone being able to sing so well, so easily, and so naturally. Chris Cornell, you should've stuck around, there aren't too many like you.
My idol is gone, there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by that I haven’t missed him and the potential for future songs and albums, by god I cried when he died, I still cry when I hear certain songs of his because he touched my soul through his music like he did several others, he was by far one of the best singers the world has ever heard or ever will heard
Depression, a poem I wrote about it. Real depression feels like doing time, you are in a prison of your mind, to yourself you must be kind, though it’s not so easy to change, so we sigh, and we hope for better days where rays of sunshine return again and though it may be in small stages, you’ll emerge from the cages that keep you in despair, keep you ruminating, feeling shame, so keep onwalking, talking, thinking and try to find love, life’s not easy, don’t fake it and just know you can make it, believe.
I was a 90’s teen. My then bf loved this song when it came out. Until today I’ve never bothered to actually listen to the lyrics though I know then by heart. Chris was a talent unmatched. His death was a tragedy. We needed many more years with him. All the greats are taken from us too soon. I hope I get to meet him in Heaven. RIP amazing man.
Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : th-cam.com/video/YJqmsXd8QH4/w-d-xo.html&t
*My TH-cam Comments Five Months Ago* This is my favorite way to hear Chris Cornell: singing alone with his acoustic guitar. If you like this, too, I highly recommend his Songbook CD. I saw him on his Songbook tour twice and would've seen him every night of his tour if I could have. I hope he continues to do solo work and solo tours, even when he has Soundgarden things going on. I support all of his music. He is a living legend! ~Musical One Owner & Manager of the Chris Cornell Community on Google+
Depression and private sorrows, and feelings of shame, can push people over the edge. No one is immune from it, famous person or regular person. Some people cant accept that famous people die and have to invent conspiracies around it all. They simply dont understand what its like to have a tortured mind or they dont understand depression etc, throw in a history of drugs use and other things and its not hard to understand. If they really understood then they wouldnt need to make up conspiracies to why famous people die and take their own life
Exactly. We live in a world of conspiracy theorists. With Cornell the writing was on the wall as they say. That’s not to say he could’ve overcome his demons eventually but when you piece it all together the odds were against him I’d say.
A Genius singing a staggeringly great song in flip-flops, gives you more faith in Creative Talent; even though the Legend is sadly no longer with us. Chris you made the world so much better when you were here. Simply Beautiful, both Artist and Song. REALLY wish you were still here.

I miss listening to him without utter sadness.. I know that day will come again, somewhat, but it will be a while!
Greatest song i ever heard, and i've heard almost everything at my 60's ..........
Beautiful
Chris’s voice is so beautiful but breaks my heart. His voice, for some reason, makes me think that this is what Heaven sounds like.
NO ONE SINGS LIKE YOU ANYMORE ~ ♡♡♡♡♡
Keep rockin' : th-cam.com/video/YJqmsXd8QH4/w-d-xo.html&t
no one sings like you anymore, Chris.
Artist are always drawn by the life of pain, it’s the only way we can ever deal. Just ask Hemingway. A man like this gave life meaning. A true artist
No one sings like you, anymore ...
"No one sings like you anymore" Yeah sooo true... 😞

This is my favorite way to hear Chris Cornell: singing alone with his acoustic guitar. If you like this, too, I highly recommend his Songbook CD. I saw him on his Songbook tour twice and would've seen him every night of his tour if I could have. I hope he continues to do solo work and solo tours, even when he has Soundgarden things going on. I support all of his music. He is a living legend!

Love you Chris - no one sings like you anymore...
Beautiful. Sent chills down my spine
He played a beautfiul song from the Soul goregously. RIP and the Music continues in our hearts. That we are grateful for and thank Chris.
This version of this song washes over me like warm river water.
This is amazing. Lyrical beauty - melodic trance of his voice.... I sit here sad for the loss of such magnanimous perfection
No one sings like you anymore....... R.I.P Chris Cornell
His voice... it's one of a kind, once in a lifetime. RIP Chris x
Thank you Chris for being there - see you again my friend 🙏🏻
A Genius singing a staggeringly great song in flip-flops, gives you more faith in Creative Talent; even though the Legend is sadly no longer with us. Chris you made the world so much better when you were here. Simply Beautiful, both Artist and Song. REALLY wish you were still here.
in my eyes, indisposed in disguise as no one knows
hides the face, lies the snake and the sun in my disgrace
Love this song 🌔
