  • This maintenance was easy to do!
    Every 100 hours or every year you should change the oil in any 4 stroke outboard. With a jet prop outboard there is some unique things you have to do after each trip with the boat. I also briefly talk about other maintenance related items in this video. I hope you enjoy it!

    the black plug you pulled off on the pan under the filter is made to hold the same hose to drain the oil from the filter.
    use a 1' section and oil will land in your bucket.
    If you run a fuel filter/water in line you do not need to change the motor filter for a few years.

    Billy, attach a big fishing sinker to the bottom of the hose. A zip tie will hold the sinker in place.

    If you are in a pinch, get a big screw driver and just make a hole in the filter on both sides and use the handle for leverage, it works every time ;)

    I am picking up this morning a boat with a 2020 80hp merc jet.
    I got it at an insurance auction.
    There has been grease leaking out the grease fitting of the jet drive and what looks like a very small weep hole on the other side of the jet. What is this little hole?
    Thanks for the video

    Is it wise to raise all makes of outboards before draining crankcase oil? I have a yamaha 40/30 amd have never seen that before.

    Billy what does your set up weigh great video 👍

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do not know how much this jetboat weighed. It was a rebranded Weldbilt 1756 with forward console and Hustler trailer. Their website says the hull is 450 pounds. I think it was a little heavier than that. If I remember right I was getting about 33mph down the river.

    Hey Billy, what's the drain bolt right above the jet pump grease fitting for? Is it some kind of flush system?

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually do not know. It doesn't hold water inside the motor so a winter flush isn't really. needed.

    • @J.Co89
      @J.Co89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a fitting you can buy that screws into it and then you screw your garden hose and can run it in your driveway.

    • @quillyaid
      @quillyaid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@J.Co89 Thanks. So do you connect 2 hoses when you run it in your driveway? There's a bigger hose connection up top too, right?

    • @J.Co89
      @J.Co89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@quillyaid yes there is one up there but I believe that is just more of a flush. I just bought mine yesterday and was given the fitting and showed where it goes. In the video I got of my boat running before I bought it (it was 4 hours away, so couldn't really just swing by and check it out) he just had it hooked up to the bottom and it had a solid stream coming out of pee hole.

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly do not remember. I need to do the bearings on my new boat soon. On the Yamaha jet I have been using their Yamalube. I need to ask the dealer if its good enough for wheel bearings. I would assume yes because its a similar bearing in the jet foot.

    Billy why did you sell this boat ?

    • @TNRVG
      @TNRVG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wanted to upgrade. The bullet shape of this boat made it a little unstable. Some people wouldn't book trips because of that (they did when I got the ProCat).

      @@TNRVG yeah I watched everything you said on the live show live and commented, but did not ask any questions, billy I got pretty famous guiding in a 16 ft alumacraft jon boat with a 25 mercury, but then you are right , I got more bookings after I bought a 20 foot princecraft Hudson DLX , but I had been on fox sports south several times before that Saturday and Sunday mornings on a show called anglers and appetites , they called me striper bob , billy when I started guiding in 2004 there were no other guides in the area so I got real lucky and filled a gap.
      Now there are hundreds of guides in my area , I don’t think I will ever get real busy again.

      @@TNRVG the only thing that I see you tubers do to not help there business is not put out enough videos , in my opinion the very best there is ,,,,is Richard gene the fishing machine,, his great success is due to the high number of videos put out and he fishes for everything and all kinds of ways , no wonder he is successful, everyone loves to watch his shows. And he fishes in a dang old jon boat.
