I love rearranging my books. Both because it feels satisfying and refreshing mentally and also because actually handling all my books reminds me of what I have and can reignite my desire to read it!
The stuffy allergies thing... Sometimes it's as simple as one single particular plant flowering. For me, that plant is Murraya panniculata, a common plant that people have in the yards in the region where I live. This particular demon plant flowers after every rainfall, and I always get congested and gross so need antihistamines (I take the second-generation non-drowsy ones). Maybe someone in your area has a new plant, even on their balcony that you can't see. It's the only plant I know of that I react to in that way. This is also your first Spring in Toronto, isn't it? So could be something seasonal in that area that wasn't in your home area in London.

As someone who has allergies all the time and has a tissue box in every single room of my house, goes through 1 box a day at least, all year round, just like everybody in my family, I was stupidly amazed at the discovery that someone can not have experienced that ever and can not have a tissue box at home LOL I hope you get better soon and I sure hope it's only temporary, bc if you're not used to it it sucks

If you like ocean-air and watching boats, than Nova Scotia is definitely for you! I've lived here my entire life and it's never lost that magical feeling. Also, I had a wonderful experience with Dal's English department. I'm definitely bias, but I only have good things to say about living in Halifax/NS!

I can totally understand the cat toy dilemma. Each cat it different. After my darling Tiglet passed away, he sent Diego and Eggs loves all the toys Tiggs didn't like. I am glad I kept them. As for the sinuses, perhaps get an air purifier since you live in a big city now. I was going to suggest local honey, but remembered that you're vegan.

I’m so glad you enjoy your stay in Nova Scotia. It makes me realized how lucky some people can be. As a weak passport holder and somebody who’s stuck in a religious country as a non-believer, it’s taking a serious toll on my mental health:’). I hope I’ll be able to get out of this situation soon and fight for my own safety and finally will be able to ignite my time & energy to get back to reading ❤🤗
I'm so glad you enjoyed Nova Scotia! I might be biased because my family is from there but I think it is the best province in Canada, especially for beaches and hiking. It also has the most gorgeous autumn that you will ever see. If you ever go back with a bit of time, take a trip to Cape Breton! Skyline trail is one of the coolest hikes I have ever done and the Cabot Trail is gorgeous at any time of year. Hope you feel better soon, anxiety is the worst

I just wanted to tell you how much this channel means to me, it feels like we're friends and kindred spirits (yes, I love Anne Shirley) even if it's my first time commenting and you don't even know who I am. I'm struggling with depression and anxiety too, and watching your videos and "spending time with you" gives me so much comfort. It's like if you gave my lonely soul a long, warm embrace. We also have a very similar taste in books. I picked up The Phantom of the Opera because of your recommendation, just finished yesterday, and absolutely fell in love with it. My heart broke into tiny pieces. I just wanted to love poor Erik and live with him forever, even if he had some serious issues. 😍(Raoul is such a drama queen by the way) I cant wait to read Susan Kay's Phantom, it's waiting on my bookshelf.
And I wanted to recommend you to continue Stefansson's Heaven and Hell, I read the whole trilogy in April (I'm from Hungary, and here they're sold together) and I think it was one of the greatest reading experiences of my life. Literally so beautiful that it hurts.
My other recommendation is The Most Secret Memory of Men by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, I think you would love it too. It discusses so many hard and interesting topics and gives a lot to think about.

I have heard that allergies are particularly awful here in Toronto because the urban planners selected male trees because they are less less messy. With the flip side being an excess of pollen 😩. Sorry for your pain!
I have been having the exacty same kind of allergy, or at least the symptoms. And like you, I never had allergies my whole life. 🥲🥲 My nose runs when I'm outside, feels dry and congested during the day and I sometimes can't even breathe well during the day. The nights, oh boy I cant't sleep without my air humidifier. I too vacuum the house thoroughly but I think it has to do with what's outside as well, pollens? Idk 💀🤧

i don’t know if this could be the same situation, but ever since i got covid last year i’ve been getting allergies nonstop. i’m pretty sure it’s a covid side effect because it started as a continuation of my covid symptoms and this has never happened to me before. now the slightest change in the weather makes my nose itchy and runny, it’s exhausting. i hope this is a one time thing for you, and i hope i manage not to sneeze every single day this upcoming winter lol. happy spring for you in the north and also!! happy birthday to calcifer! he’s looking more handsome each day. ❤

What an absolutely perfect description of my tree allergies you have given in this video. Mine are specific to maple trees, and I lucked out this spring that locally the silver maples, which are the worst for me, flowered right before a bout of cold wet weather, which knocked the flowers off, and very much reduced the impact for me this spring.

I struggle with anxiety any time my routine changes, so traveling and the days leading up to a trip can be a big trigger for me too.
I also started getting seasonal allergies around age 30 and that was immediately what I thought you had when I heard your voice, before you even mentioned it.

Emma, I think you should look for this book: Dewey, the Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World, by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter. Dewey looks a lot like Calcifer.

Oh Aria, I think it may be the only anime/manga series that I can give 9/10 to the whole, and yes, it's a great slice-of-life manga just like you expected. After reading the manga, I recommend you to watch the first anime season (aria the animation), it will double your enjoyment.

Maybe there's a tree species or something like that in your new area that you haven't been exposed to yet? I don't know Canadian health care system, but maybe there's a test you can do? In my country, we have an application where you put your location and it shows you what pollen is flying around
If you can afford one, I would suggest trying out an air purifier for your bedroom, since you said your allergies or whatever it is are really bad at night and in the morning. You can get one small enough to put on a dresser or a nightstand and just leave it on all night, or if the light bothers you, leave it on all day and turn it off at night. Maybe see if that helps? It might kill whatever is causing your allergies.

Mrs. Tiggy Winkles has a similar snail that is slightly bigger and less noisy that my daughter uses for her anxiety. I am a fellow Cancerian and noise pollution is what upsets me the most about city dwelling. I also need the comfort of trees and bike trails 💕💕

Over here in the UK a lot of people who've never previously had allergies are suddenly getting hay fever symptoms, so maybe you're experiencing that. I have been and oh my god people go through this every year??? I have been taking so much for granted my entire life 😭

And yes, I agree, that setting is important in romance novels - especially special dates, which often involve restaurants, and the inevitable interaction with the wait staff. I wish I could help you with the panic attacks but they're something alien to me. To be honest, sometimes I'm an awful risk-taker.
I'm not sure if someone has said this already, but "Seeing" isn't really a sequel to "Blindness". Some characters from "Blindness" do eventually show up, but the story is completely different. It's a good book, but if you are considering trying more Saramago in the future I wouldn't recommend "Seeing" as your next read. "Death with Interruptions" is very similar to "Blindness" in the beginning (though the narrative changes completely in the second half). "The Double" is also really good. If you want something that is actually set in Portugal you have "Baltasar and Blimunda" or "The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis" (but that one is better to read after you're familiar with Fernando Pessoa as the story relates a lot to him).

I hear you on the anxiety, I have just had the worst 3 months of my life and it's still going. I can't believe Calcifer is one year old already, I remember when he was just a tiny little furball.
Try taking an antihistamine each night before bed. It’ll take a few days to build up in your system but it should help. If you’re already doing that maybe try Flonase or another allergy nasal spray on top of the antihistamine. And an air purifier in your bedroom would also be a good idea. The pollen count this year has been absolutely insane. I hope you start feeling better soon!
You said itchy eyes, symptoms like cold/flu. You could have hay fever, maybe a plant or flowers in your apartment may be causing this. There's a tree that flowers in my mum's garden that causes mum to suffer hay fever symptoms similar to you! It could be in your apartment. Hay Fever is something lots of people get during Spring when all the flowers and pollenating!!
I came to the same conclusion about Legends and Lattes. I hope I like reading it more than listening to it. I got so distracted and was so bored. I would check out and when I checked back in would think, “Omg are they still describing that?” Hope your allergies calm down. I bet Toronto has lots of new things for your system to process.
