I know I'm really late, but for anyone who wants to know, the reason why he manifested into a berserker instead of a saber is because he couldn't bare the idea of being a slave to an oppressor(master) in a holy grail war, instead opting to sacrifice his sanity.
Out of all fate characters, Spartacus is the only one I know of who takes more than one command spell to halt him and can even reach a point where not even all three command will do anything. That's pretty special and really fucking scary.
anyone with magic resistance or independant action at high rank can do the same though...
@@typeouetco1626 But most of the time, they won't kill you for it. This guy would. You'd probably lose the high ranking servant's trust, but you wouldn't be mutilated and be beaten to death.
Actually Herc is powerful enough to withstand a normal masters Command spells only Illya was really able to control him due to her irregular body as the vessel for the grail.Even in strange fake the command spells itself really didnt do much since Bazdilot had to use all 3 of them for one order just to get a chance of Corrupting him.
He was given his proper shine in Lostbelt 3

Spartacus was an amazing hero that didnt get his story fleshed out by the anime.........a qoute "He has no motive to seek the Holy Grail; his dearest wish is just to proceed to fields of battle. For him, who only aspires to rescue the oppressed and rebel against the oppressor, the battlefield is a place where there is only the weak and the strong and also a place full of the everlasting pain and trials that he desires.[4] He can be said to be a fool, but not delusional in his madness. As he reaches the head of his oppressors, joy and glory follow after the clouds of battle clear and the suffering ends. With "absolutely perfect" logic with no flaws, he has forgotten the fact that all that awaited his own suffering was a cruel and tragic death. His will to keep moving forward in the face of all logic goes beyond "hatred" and "conviction", but, in spite of his madness, has carved an unbreakable resolve onto his own heart. Lancer of Black describes his rebellion as the embodiment of his noble spirit, unable to accept that the strong will always trample the weak. Fighting until he has turned the strong into the weak, he does not fight out of altruism for the sake of the weak, but rather for a world where all are equal. "
Berserker hated all oppressors in life, and he fought the masters to protect the weak, care for them, and heal them. His will to fight was set aflame by those with power, and more than anything, fought them to stand in defiance. He never questions his faith that it is a strength of humanity to endure anything. He only ever acts according to one single thought: "to revolt against the oppressor and to protect the oppressed." Following the most virtuous option, he will choose the path of suffering. He will not strike an enemy in numerical inferiority, and he will only fight back against an enemy stronger than him.
So before bashing him. Know that even in the grip of madness he fought for equal rights :3
Thank you for this summary, or analysis rather. When I watched this fate series I felt spartacus more than Alot of the other servants. Though a berserker I believed in his ideals and motive all the way. The Crying Warmonger is one of the most righteous noble phantasm I've ever seen.
So that's why he's compatible with Shirou Emiya. Both of them wouldn't hesitate to throw their own life away to protect the weak and oppressed from injustice even if the only thing waiting for them after a life of suffering for the greater good was oblivion.

there's one other thing to point out as well... Spartacus's generally rebellious nature makes it so he outright ignores his masters orders on many occasions to do what he wants, HOWEVER there is an exception... if his master has no realistic ideals of their own he'll have no need to 'rebel' against them... and in those rare cases he will actually follow orders.
One famous example apparently being Shirou from FSN, where its believed that if he was to do a natural summon then Spartacus would have the highest chance of being summoned for him... and would obey almost all of his orders without question.
It's also rumored that was key to his design.

@@aditghifari5039 I know this is a late response but I just wanted to tell you because Shirou Emiya doesn't neccesarily have any sort of great ambitions(At the beginning of UBW) Spartacus would actually have listened to Shirou and followed his orders. Also without a catalyst to summon the servant he wanted, Spartacus is the most likely servant Shiro would have summon.

Spartacus was legendary. But his Fate version is not fit for a Holy Grail War

I personally think that the purpose of Spartacus is that he represented the audience...
1) As audience members, we are pretty much just here to watch them fight, and from the initial imformation, the Yggmillia (uh that family whatever is spelled) are the bad guys cuz they are lead by a Nazi, thus Spartacus initially sees them as the oppressors (just like we believed they were)...
2) Then Spartacus switching sides could be forshadowing, representing how eventually after Vlad, the Nazi and the woman die, the rest of the Yggmillia (f****** name) are actually good and the Black Faction become the good guys, while the Red Faction lead by Shirou only (whom at first we thought the Red Faction were the good guys) becomes "The Oppressors"
Thus as audience members, we view this battle the same way Spartacus did
He should be atleast a 4 Star saber
funny fact, he aparently would have worked great with shirou as he will help his master as long as he is in a disvantageous position. He also can be sumoned as asaber

Spartacus is a pretty scary strong servant. You wouldn't want to encounter him in a regular holy grail war with limited teamwork.
Damn, I remember when you first released the Ruler Explained and it didn't get much traction as you wanted so were thinking of discontinuing it and I had to beg you to continue it. Anyways I'm really glad you continued this Fate Explained series, they are educational and fun to watch.
Here's idea, could you explain the world of Fate Extra in terms of what we know from the game, I know the anime is original but it's kinda hard to understand with how studio Shaft delivers it's info dump. And I'm sure newcomers to anime will have a much harder time to understand.
Edit: You said berserkers can talk right? Then one day I hope you can explain how Kiyohime (best girl) and many other berserkers from FGO can perfectly talk.

I think the main reason for talking Berserkers in FGO is due to FGO being a mobile game that emphasises on interacting with Servants as a gimmick. It will eventually get stale if every Berserker drawn out is a screaming thing. Giving them personality and low/EX Mad Enhancement at least brings their character to light, or at least on par with Servants of the other classes.
Otaku Trailers Its all about madness vs insanity. Kiyohime spartacus and raikou are insane. Lu bu Heracles and eric the bloodaxe are mad. Mad enhance heightens a bad flaw in your personality. That's how I always saw it.
The sole variable on as to how Berserkers can talk is proportional to the Ranking of their Madness Enhancement Skill.
Mitchell Alexander Not true at all. Kintoki has mad enhance E and he speaks perfectly fine. Vlad has mad enhance c talks perfectly fine. Raikou has mad enhance EX talks completely fine.

Homunculus physiology. Because making him earn his abilities through motivated action, or having thematic and narrative rational behind his powers, rather than plot convenience, is too much to ask for a character that is basically just a walking "soulless construct" joke. At least Moe-dred, the knight of daddy issues, and her trusty companion Shishigo proved a worthwhile part of the show.

Probably around a 7 - 7.5 /10. Im really lenient when I rate anime. I have a simple basis. If I found it entertaining, then its good enough for me. And Fate Apocrypha was entertaining enough.

@@edelric321 Since Spartacus' damage constantly increases, it could arguably register as a different attack everytime, and could potentially aloow him to bypass Godhand.
Also, Herc practically can't hurt Spartacus either.
