- Video games have always been looked down upon by society for some reason, and the people who play them are always seen as nerds and losers. But is their perception of gamers valid or are they being too superficial?

It's not even really how society in general views us. It's how the mainstream media has always portrayed us, and if by chance you haven't been paying attention, their credibility is at an all-time low. Man, I'm 48, and have been gaming since 1981, I learned a long time ago to not waste my time or energy caring what others thought of me and my hobby.

Gaming as a hobby does not make you a loser. Neglecting your responsibilities and letting it consume your whole life though, makes you a loser.
1- it's a solitary hobby with no end result to show for
2- it's mainly popular among children and antisocial adults
3- gaming is an oversaturated market
4- most "adult" games are made for teenagers
Speaking as a guy that works graveyard with other degenerates, I'm inclined to agree.
One guy spent 1500 on a Spiderman PS5 and plays Diablo 3 excessively. He's also not very nice to hang around.
Meanwhile our newest member is actively trying to leave by developing his skills and networks. It's working for him big time.

I can't disagree, honestly. When looking at the climate of modern gaming, it IS shit. This hobby IS for idiots who waste money on bullshit that is worse than years past.
I love how people and media treat people who enjoy videogames like garbage, meanwhile, they give ALL the passes and thumbsup for sports fans (mainly soccer and Basketball).
Like, i know that the majority of people who enjoy watching sports are normal, but its crazy how NOBODY ever mentions them. Even though NO OTHER COMMUNITY are willing to literally beat, kill or torture others over just liking the other team!
Funny how not even with E-Sports, which is raking money by the millions, they still aren't taken seriously.

Another thing that doesn’t help is the fact that so many people lack the emotional intelligence to not resort to temper tantrums over frustration for a game loss
It’s the same as sports fans when their favorite team loses
And gaming being so accessible and addictive, it carries over a big baggage of addiction and anger issues that give a really bad image, and it’s not even a “bad apple” kind of deal because I KNOW 90% of the gaming community has/has had issues with this during a gaming session
And let’s not even get started on the incentives on spending, gambling and insane number of expansions that are added solely to keep you hooked up throwing money at them
Video games have good things but they also have very bad things here and there. The problem is that media and people outside of the bubble focus only on this negatives and completely abolish the community as a whole
I think the crazy thing is that a lot of the people making games (executives, actors, even plenty of devs) also see gamers as losers if we don't like certain aspects of a game.

It depends on your priorities, if you neglect everything else you need to do and just play video games; that’s not good, but if you take care of all of your responsibilities in addition to playing video games then that’s OK

The same people who hate video games are honestly the ones more interested in games than I am and as someone who spends about 100 to 200 dollars on games throughout every two to three years and I can perfectly say that Video games are like shows or movies were you spend and hour or two on it then go about your day
At least it seems like my parents are thinking watching tv (or tv shows/movie etc) is more proactive then playing games.
Good. What i learned over time is that if when my hobbies become normalized they become filled with toxic people. Let them laugh at me as long as they leave the things i love alone and not try to "fix" them to appeal to EVERYONE.

My room looks quite good. i always use the trashcan and i keep my setup clean. when i show it to other people they always think my whole room is messy and full of chips and drinks an other rubbish but that is really not true. So i am doing my part in making gamers have a little better image. ofc my room is not perfect some clothes and stuff are lying on the ground but nothing special at all. PS: I have nearly every product from steelseries. please give steelseries a chance i love their products and use them for many years now and only 1 headset broke but that was my fault and they still gave me a free new one.
Helping gamers have a better image by cleaning your room. Literally the most basic of human tasks is considered an achievement for gamers.

2) Certain video games can actually even be really good for the brain. Heck it has even been slightly proofen that it can help old people to keep their brains working and slowing the risks for things like dementia. But of course barely anyoe is aware of that and of course the midea would give a shit to even report about that
3) Ironicly there are a lot of parents nowadays who find it normal to let tablest do the parenting and let kids brains actually rot from shitty content like cocomelon or kids horror.
4) If this whole situation has one good out come: Gamers are finally seeing and admitting what a mess the AAA market is, special with those trend going for hyper realism and making more movies than games. The Last of us was for years praised as the top example of how good video games can be and I think gamers only felt that way because it came of as "mature" Like they where so desperate to proof how "adult" video games can be that they where willing to sacrifice what makes games games... well guess what, mainstream is still shitting on gamers, heck, at worst mainstream is destorying the AAA market for years. And a lot of gamers finally woke up to this reality and realized how far the last of us actually is from being the 1# game of all time

The media will always tell you that your a loser anyway, general playground stigma ended back in 2010ish when girls started playing CoD, be it for themselves or to hang with the bois, and say they are GaMeR, but as of 2016 the GaMeR is basically someone who plays gachas.
Today, people play games for your pleasure so you can goon at them and they get money for it, with a majority being losers anyway, because they believe that it makes those with little personality cool, games are just a way to waste time when you have no ability to be productive, but to be frank, you can see why with an economy that is globally screwed for the majority of humans in the world.
If there is one thing the GAMER has learned throughout the years that they can take into the real world, its the efficiency of time, and the gamer also has various tech skills and a better than average typing speed, if the gamer skewed their mindset to how they use time, they are likely S tier in productivity if placed correctly.
One of my siblings always jokes about gamers being the most oppressed in society but I think there is a lot of truth in that.
