@@Dee-ro9ls That’s fact. It’s Tom Hanks brother voicing Woody for the merchandise. Some actors do not want their voice and likeness used on mass produced merchandise. Another Disney actor who refused to let Disney make merch with his voice was Robin Williams as Genie. Unfortunately for Robin he had a years long beef with Disney for not respecting his wishes

Yooo thanks for the idea man, trying to restore my 2002 woody doll my mum got on ebay when i was 3. A couple of weeks ago the voice box was acting wierd and my mum pulled it out and it just crumbled in her hand. Im exited to restore it to its former glory as it has a lot of emotional value for me because i have literally had it for 10 years 🙂

@@jessecaruso7808 Yeah, you have to be careful with the wires, they're not made to be moved around constantly. You really got to get it mounted and then just leave it. I constantly end up knocking out the cables when I'm working on stuff.

Thank you! I wanted to be one of the first to do a tutorial like this one! It’s definitely a new way to try and approach a voice box then what I’ve seen on the internet for a custom Woody one.
I actually ordered the phrases in a specific way for mine, the way they're ordered is based on the order in which each phrase appears in the movie which I actually encourage everyone else to do if they want to use the sound chip:
1. Reach For The Sky
2. You're My Favorite Deputy
3. Somebody's Poisoned The Waterhole
4. Yee-Haw Giddy Up Partner We Got To Get This Wagon Train A'Movin'
5. There's A Snake In My Boot
6. I'd Like To Join Your Posse Boys But First I'm Gonna Sing A Little Song

My 1995 Thinkway Woody's string finally wouldn't withdraw today (I think something was brittle in his voice box after all these years) . I don't think I'll do your fix but it was cool to find out one can purchase a sound chip and has inspired me to put one in another toy.

@@rainbowsparkle5775 I’m not entirely sure. If the sound board burns out then you will have to get a new one so the battery is new too. But over time the battery will probably degrade over time so there is a chance it will burn out. But overall the battery itself is not changeable unless you mod it.

I remember there was a deleted voice box saying in toy story 2 where after they went off the airplane, obviously woody used his pull string to get off of the plane, when he got on bullseye with buzz and jessie, woodys voice box says "Ye-Haw", but later that saying was used for the toy story game, I guess it is kinda cannon to one of woodys voice box saying, but they were going to use it so ya, just wanted to talk about it.
Yeah that’s true he does say yeehaw but it’s connected with the other phrase. You are right though!

Sadly I found out no toy mode.. the best budget mod you can do is this one: th-cam.com/video/W7ovtc64XEQ/w-d-xo.html Disney store woody body only $30 and the expensive part will be closed mouth smile Woody head.
I really wish I would have taken pictures but I got this chip in the original box and it works off 2 AAs!!! 2 AAs seems to be within tolerance of the voltage needed for this chip. Still working with the same batteries with the grandkids over all the time since Christmas.
BIG NOTE THOUGH: put your files on the chip with the lithium battery and make sure it's the way you want it because you don't want to plug in the USB with AA alkaline batteries and it won't work without battery power, I tried.
Really the only modification I made was melting down the nubs inside the box that don't do anything, with the soldering iron. The biggest pain in the butt was keeping the the pull string spring from coming out putting it back together. Almost lost it a couple times from springing out. I also added like 0.3 seconds of silence to the beginning of each sound and it's perfect!
But seriously, desolder the original chip out and solder the new chip in, melt the nubs down and it's kid approved!!!

I ordered a lighter leash just like that one yesterday. I hope I can fit it in my Woody because I'm actually using a pill bottle to store the sound chip in.

12:33 how did you put the push button on the lanyard string? Also what happens if the voicebox stops working so does that means you get to charge it?
I glued it on top of the lanyard with hot glue gun
I hallowed out a voice box shell that was broken to hold everything inside and make sure nothing broke on me, wondering if I can do the same thing using a vintage small toy pull string box and using the voice module to create a slow retract (of corse removing the needle off the record so I don’t get two voices
Try and explore and see if you can figure it out and let me know if it works! The problem with most voice boxes out there they are all kinda big and Woody has a small body cavity so it can get a little tricky to get one that fits just right. My favorite design was the Disney store voice box but even that one was a little too small to fir this new microchip board I used in this video. Good luck!

Do you by chance know anything about "Squad Leader Woody" from 2002? I'm having some issues with his voice box but I'm unsure of how to remove it as it seems attached to his head.
I know this is a little late but I wonder if instead of that lanyard I can use a a slow retract pullstring and use the method you did with like the soundboard but I really wanna try this not sure if it'll work.

I had to use a smaller speaker since the original didn’t fit inside, got one of those non multiplayer sound boxes and used it’s speaker as well it’s push button since it came with a casing and I just soldered it all together
Forgot to mention I got it slow retracting using nothing but electric tape and a rubber band
It’s very hard to do and have to be very gentle when doing it

idea,would it work if when you go to cut the lighter leash string you cut it a long more forwards so that the pul string is less long,i want a shorter string becaus i think it would be an annoyance having to pull it ALL the way out every time

You don’t like medicom woody? Besides the fact that he doesn’t talk and is more of a collector’s item, I think the detail is incredible.
Medicom woody has several problems. The seam line on the back of the face is terrible... considering you can swap faces is a cool gimmick but a failure when you can see those giant seam lines on the back of his face! Also jeans are too dark, face looks pale and dead not enough rosy cheeks.. eyebrows seem off and no working pull string and also no slow retract feature, he isn’t super floppy. For the price I want perfection! That is why I rather build my own ultimate Woody...

I know this video is old but I’ve just started making my custom voice box but when I put the lighter leash inside woody it doesn’t have the space to react to the bottle cap pushing against it. Do you know what I can do
You’re going to need to glue the trigger button down somehow better to make sure the tension is there to hit the button against bottle cap… best of luck, you can do it just put some more hard work into it. Maybe try gluing the trigger button to the bottle cap that way the trigger button has to press against it when you pull the string causing the required tension to activate push button.

Have you heard about toy story land at Disney's Hollywood studios in Disney world and I'm sure you never heard about toy story land in Hollywood studios before it's at Disney world in Florida toy story land has great rides like slinky dog dash and alien swirling saucers and toy story mania and you can see jessie and rex holding the Christmas lights and woody at the front entrance and you can bring some toy story toys there and at toy story mania they got a gift shop at the end of the ride I hope you like this idea todayigrewup

If it says programmable it can play like multiple phrases or its just on phrase only
You can activate individual phrases one button push at a time so yes you can have multiple sound samples.
i didnt get how it activated the sound when pulling the string. was it set with the button ? i didnt get how it functioned since the cap was covering the view.

haha I was going for movie accuracy not really a toy to play with as much. I am mostly only going to keep him in his display case I have for him. In the future when I have children (I don't have kids yet) then I will get them Signature collection toys if they want toy story, cause they are still nice but not a priceless custom mod.

Hey bro is there a another way to put the string on the ring without tying a knot because i tried it last time and my string retracted into the capsule so im not sure
No other way that I know. You should use what I did a grip type tool that will hold the string in place temporarily so it doesn’t move.
@@todayigrewup i actually thought of rapping the string around the capsule and then putting tape on it to hold it because i don't have those tools

The multiplay is too expensive in my country when I searched it in online shopping.
Update I found a cheaper one, it looks like the multiplay but it has no box to confirm, I still don't have a woody by the way, I just watch in case I get a woody or if I make one.

Did you know that his string was also long in Toy Story 2 when Woody was lassoing into the bolt of the plane before swinging into Bullseye with Jessie?
Also, did you know that Woody’s voice was inside a little plastic box inside of him?
