    The conversion of 3 sided/edged surface to 4 side/edge surface is "laborious" and might seem "tricky" to beginners of surfacing techniques.
    However, it cannot be avoided. I have experimented with splitting an edge into 2 segments = 2 sides in sw algorithm, so it allowed me to use boundary or loft.
    Similar to lofting from an edge to a point. It works, but is the final surface smooth? (who cares? we must)
    Final test, I think everyone will agree is to "offset the surface" in both inner and outer direction and check for "wrinkles".

    I'm curious why you created an additional loft surface. Why not trim back the original surface?

      If I had trimmed back the original surface on the right, the boundaries that make up direction 1 of the boundary blend would have been quite different in length; it would have been quite stretched horizontally. My goal was to make a surface that has fairly even spacing of isolines. As always though, many ways to skin a cat when modelling!

    In case anyone else ran into the same problem as me that ended up finding this video looking for a solution:
    For "Direction 2", in order to complete the surface (having "Tangency to Face" as an option), a surface is required on the Direction 2 face to reference. If you specifically do not want to have a surface on the other side, you will need to create another curve somewhere in the middle of the Direction 1 edges along a plane (this may be a bit of a pain to figure out how to do properly the first time, one hint is to use "Split Entities", although there's other challenges to figure out in order to do this properly) and then run the process on the side with 3 edges after creating a surface on the other side with 4 faces.

      Do you mean if you want to make it tangent to the extruded surface that runs along the top? I'm not quite sure I follow what you are trying to achieve. Cheers.

      @@AndrewJacksonDesignStudio I was just attempting to explain to anyone the solution I found if you are trying to build the 3-sided boundary surface without the use of any external surface references. May not have come off clearly through words.
