I still remember the late Robert Ebert saying that video games could never be art, because of their interactive nature. The man was trapped by the conventions of his time that dictated that art could only be enjoyed while the consumer of art sat there, passively, being shown something. He was a smart fellow, but this game, along with many others, is proof that gaming is absolutely a form of art.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous! From the cinematography to colours and art style to music and narration! This is true sci-fi space opera! And its a videogame!!! Art and entertainment! Interactive art! To this day I still get the shivers.
I love this combination of a "sword & sandals"-style narrative with meticulously mechanical space opera-More space games need to take inspiration from Homeworld and design ships that don't look like plastic toys.
They better perfect that shit or not even think about doing one. The director who did the first Silent Hill movie spent 10 years begging the game developers. They kept refusing in fear that he wouldn't do it justice, until his prep was on point.
Yes, I can image it. An incompetent f*ck-pocalypse, designed by marketing committee, hate-forced by corporate media, full of political virtue signalling, diversity hire cast, some indie director who hates fans and a writer who can't tell ordnance from ordinance. No, thanks, I like Homeworld the way it is.
Because the actress who did S'jet's voice in the original Homeworld was available again so they had her record the lines as she was always intended to be that voice. Just when they originally did Homeworld 2 she was unavailable and they had to get someone else at the time
I wish there would be a Homeworld game where we as players can be more involved. We could walk aboard ships, make tactical decisions, plan strategies, talk to our crew, do missions...like a cross between Mass Effect and Starcraft.
Yeah, I agree. Someone needs to try and do a more faithful edit of this intro. It's not the uploader's fault, the audio syncing done for the remastered version was done intentionally for some reason; the audio is exactly the same as if you were watching this cutscene ingame.
I cried watching this 15 years later. It still has the same power and devotion when game developers where truly artists and writers.
I hope, *hope* HMW 3 doesn't forget this next year.

No, he is not(smart)
Just a Timeless, ageless piece of art.
How did they make a game this gorgeous, simply amazing.

I just love that sitar playing in background. It puts a spirit in game and emotions just go crazy watching intro. They made this game so perfect.
Oh man. Those feels.
Imagine movie based on Homeworld universe..
ranger7650 The story would make a great film if done right.
They better perfect that shit or not even think about doing one.

+Ranger7650. that would be awesome, each game would have to be it's own movie though.

If so, then please have Christopher Nolan do it. The teaser should just be a simple sentence. "This is Fleet Command".@@ULTRAWIDE.
This intro from a game demo I downloaded like 20 years ago has no right to go as hard as it does but here we are
3:18 and yet they couldn't get seamless transition like in 2003
Yeah i noticed that too, also some of the artwork looks less detailed for some reason.
ohhh i felt my blood chill when they said "sejakur"
*Sajuuk-khar
This may, after 20 years. This is fleet command.
the transition of the core from animation to the game cutscene in the original version was made very smoothly
We are getting home world 3!!
What is the point of a remaster if they can't even get the seamless transition right.
Amazing intro
Best version on youtube!
Класс!
Why oh why did they change Fleet Command's voice? She sounded perfect in the original...
Because the actress who did S'jet's voice in the original Homeworld was available again so they had her record the lines as she was always intended to be that voice. Just when they originally did Homeworld 2 she was unavailable and they had to get someone else at the time
Homeworld Tabletop RPG to coincide with Homeworld 3!
im here for music...

This ruined Dune 2 for me lol. It’s way too much. Simply amazing.
the original hw2 is still better than the new one.
This remastered is worse, the sounds are off, the timing is off and the end transition fails completely. Oh well :|
this is a really bad upload
