It’s amazing how good old video games look in your memory. I went from TLOU2 back to TLOU the other day and boy was I disappointed. Still, this video brings back some very fond memories. P.S Same can be said for movies
I've grown to appreciate the redesigns all the more, when I look back at the old games and realize just how weird the worms used to look like, especially in the cutscenes!
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002 The original was clearly trying to go for a more realistic worm look for the characters. Then Worms 2 redesigned them into a chibi like design to make them less jarring and more cartoonish. But it wouldn't be until I think Worms 3D, when they gave them the iconic stylish look we've all come to identify them as today.
@@Cyberbrickmaster1986 Yep, would been awesome to see the old Worms games like this and Worms 3D in future consoles like the Switch someday if Team17 celebrates Worms' anniversary someday in the future :D
0:51 I recently played this game on PS5 and I could tell my dad had played it as a kid because he could predict it exactly. “And he falls over because it’s so heavy” and the worm did!
I would play this game for hours trying to find all the different scenes, used to draw them... I'm in the minority that loves these old school models but I think it's down to what you've grown up with!
Nostalgia triggered! I used to play this gem a lot on the PS1. After that I started to love all the newer Worms although not all games where really that good.
I remember that former British video game company logo really well. It can be also seen in a PAL version of Jersey Devil but it has different music I guess. In the late 1990s, Ocean renamed Infogrames UK when it was acquired by a French video game company, Infogrames and it is now known as Atari, Inc.
Someone in the comments is whining about the fact that the graphics and animations aren't good and that the humour is childish. Did they not know how hard to was to do this with a very small budget back in 1995? Not to mention that this games was for kids so of course it's going to be childish.
Yeah, they made them cuter by removing the nose & creepy limbs and made their heads to body ratio different, also added cell shading/outlines. Most people agree that these ones from Worms 1 were pretty creepy looking.
The worms in this game has Rayman's nose, which is kinda funny, considering that the first Rayman game also came out in 1995. Ubisoft must have sued Team 17 for plagiarism, as the worms in Worms 2 onward don't have noses anymore, but then from Worms Armageddon onward, they have no arms but detachable hands, like Rayman! But Ubisoft's apparently okay with that, as the worms have the detachable hands to this day!
+Ben Walker The Steam version works on my Windows 10 laptop. I've also bought the GOG version, but I don't feel like testing it. It most likely also works.
Sugli alberi certo , i vermi stanno sugli alberi; da piegarsi in 2 dalle risate. Basato sulle prime esperienze del team17 nonostante tutto sono cortometraggi notevoli di impegno
A lot of the cutscenes seemed to be inspired from the film Bad Taste I’ve always thought . From the quirky offkey music to the similarities of some scenes.
Was quite the jump back in the day going from an A1200 to a 486 with a CD rom, these video really sold what a bigger machine could do (and well, you know, Doom, Magic Carpet, etc.).
Anyone else noticed that somehow the flamethrower eliminated plants far behind the worm (2:06 vs 2:14) yet left some plants right behind the scorched worm?
A true cinematic masterpiece
Man, I seem to remember these being much better than they really were. But back then any sort of 3D animation seemed amazing.

The reason is you rember only emotion and feelings and how you felt at that time, not the actual footage....
Then I guess I'm built differently because I still think these look awesome.
@@thatswedishguy638 The only Chad in this comment section.
I also do feel these look pretty okay for the time and a relatively small studio. Cartoon visuals help of course

Worms WMD seems like the best so far
True, plus the crazy thing? is my first Worms game was Ultimate Mayhem before I discovered this video lol.

Wark therefore the game itself was 10mb

i am so fucking nostalgic right now!
Weird early CGI stuff just has this charm to it honestly
I know, right?
The animation reminds me of an early Pixar short from the 90s
those cutscenes look very experimental
They are
That’s because they’re from the mid 1990s
And that worm in the old 1995 team 17 logo yes!
they look wierd compared to the newer ones
and creepy
Psscht. Now I want to laugh at myself... Cause I didn't know how to capitalize.
What
The worms lost their noses in later versions of the game

I must admit, i found this intro weird even back at that time.
