Can we talk about how this is the most underrated movie score of the 1980s? It’s opening theme is pure genius, edit stent, chills down my spine as a child.
Very underrated movie theme. This music was actually a masterful introduction to the entire concept of this movie and set up a great contrast between the purpose of SAINT and the comedic elements about to be set forth.
This main title soundtrack is one of my favorites. More and more instruments are slowly being added to the song. The music is being constructed just like Johnny 5 is in the opening titles. Truly amazing work!
Johnny 5 VS The Terminator Johnny 5: has a laser, multi-tool that would make MacGyver blush, disassemble an entire car in ~30 seconds, INPUT! INPUT! Reading 10 books/minute, can drive/is a vehicle himself Terminator: Is Arnold, can't learn unless hacked, can use vehicles and guns. Damn, no wonder NOVA and Co. were so fucking scared
Dark, ominous. Encapsulating the terrifying mystery of life. I like how the main line of this music ties back into the joyful song at the end of the movie (''come and follow me''), which use a major key.
i got the complete soundtrack on cd the both movie on dvd coming soon the first on blu ray and my fanmade 7 inches of the first and second short circuit specially for the 30th anniversary
I wish the 2nd short circuit had more behind the scenes like how they managed to film when poor Johnny 5 was beaten up and how they still kept the robot working after the fact.
The only thing I have ever seen of Short Circuit was in this video game called Besiege where someone builded him in the game. I watched it since I was 7, I always wondered what he looked like in the movie. That was the video that helped me discover Short Circuit When I watched this a month ago, this was truly a great film
classic. I always wished there was more shots and scenes of the other SAINT bots… both them and Number 5 have such an amazing design… still holds up to this day. If Short Circuit 1 and 2 were made today, I doubt that even with a big budget (which both films didn’t have!) a production company would come up with the same convincing advanced robotics as Eric Allard and his team did. Something about the 80s being such a time of relentless creativity.
I was wondering, Ok I can see how Stephanie thought Number 5 was an Alien in her truck when she first raised the cover and he had his laser on her, But when Number 5 first came into her house how to HELL could Stephanie NOT see that it was a Robot???
This and the accompanying intro footage is the basis of my engineering porn fetish. Like the German proverb says: "Work is a beautiful thing - I could watch it all day." Edit: Beat-wise, it's also proto-techno of the highest quality
In the opening, it's No.5 being created. Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport. 5 was a S.A.I.N.T. before the strike, God just made him a REAL one.
It’s setting up one side of a big contrast: the SAINT program is a pretty scary thing when you think about it, nuclear-armed killing machines built for urban warfare. But when Number Five is hit by lightning he becomes curious, gentle, and jovial and the music (or at least his own theme in the soundtrack) changes to match.
The music is being assembled piece by piece, like the robot in the title sequence.
Not only that, but it is at regular intervals of every 8 seconds.
Holy shit, I never noticed that, and I've been watching this movie for almost three decades! Good catch!

Had this been the opening to terminator, it'd be the most terrifying movie theme song ever made
I can’t even find the end-credits song on iTunes or Spotify

Same

Very dark score. David Shire was a very underrated composer. Love his scores for Saturday Night Fever and also Return To Oz.
I think this was his second electronic score after “2010.” This one definitely sound a lot more electronic than the other one.
I need a 10 hour version of this. sssTAT.

@@bionabot Johnny had a girl basically crushing on him in his first movie.
The girl in the Terminator's first movie spent 90% of it running from him
This is basically brains vs brawn. Yes, Johnny can do all those things, but he can also be rendered inoperable by a couple of guys with lead pipes.
@@joshdillon9637 Inoperable? I'll remind you he kicked Oscar's ass after that. That doesn't sound very inoperable to me!
