Oh, the world this opens up! Just finished my 48" wide 40 ton press brake scratch-build today. Bent 37" wide 14ga. pieces for a table base. Super clean "factory" looking bends. I can see this will be a very valuable tool!

@@MakeEverything Thank you, Chris! Some fine tuning to do to get it operating smoothly. And I want to make several different dies to expand functionality. Good meeting you at Makers Camp! Best, Andrew

General rule of thumb for bending plate in a brake is the die should be 8X the thickness of the material. So a 2" die is needed for 1/4" plate, 1.5" is needed for 3/16" plate (but can be done in a 2" die, you'll just have a larger bend radius), 3/8" plate should be done in 3" die, etc.

That's awesome Chris zep. Wow that's pretty cool. Congratulations on your new tool / toy my friend. Hopefully you get great use out of it for many years to come my friend. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making. Don't die. God bless.

Great video! When you rebuild that press you should do a maximum bend test for the swag offroad kit. Thinking thickness and width would be cool to see. Haven't seen a video on that yet and I've watched a few videos on their press brakes.

I was thinking about you today hence I needed to bend some steel top for my toolbox 😊. To find your video building the machine for it

Have you needed to reinforce the finger holder vertically yet? It has all that pressure pushing down in one spot.

I haven’t had to do any additional supports, so far it’s work really well. I’m bending some 30” long 3/16 for a project this week so I’ll see how it does…

When welding in bottom die it doesn’t need to welded solid. It’s not going to be going anywhere all the force on it is going down in to the plate. Some well placed stitch welds help not to warp the bottom die.
