Mallorca is one of the best tourist destinations all over the world. A pity you didn't reserve some time for visiting and going to the beach. There are lots of stunning "calas" (sort of little beaches between the mountains and the sea) you maybe shouldn't have skipped.
Mark you vlog is awesome, your footage is great, your humour is hilarious and your so honest… it’s super refreshing so it’d be great to see more like this.
Did you get the results and improvements in your game? I have been to many Academys and found little improvement. My areas for improvement were shot selection, foot work, more consistent back hand. All of these places seemed like a factory that have set drills. Very limited player assessment before you start. Very limited quality coaching or tailored drills to achieve the improvement desired. It is usually best to target your weaknesses with different specific quality coaches. Most coaches want you to improve just enough until the next lesson. Job security.
I went there last year and the hotel+coaching was €1.600. Since the two 2h daily sessions are just 120min apart, I nurtured myself with isotonic drinks and fuel bars. Btw, in my case I had breakfast and dinner included. A different thing is how much I spent at the pro shop. 😅
Mark, seems you are still having some strong jetlag! 😅. You didn't have 11 hours of tennis, you had 11 sessions of 2 hours each, so 22 hours, bringing the cost per hour to 43 euros, which is very competitive compared to what is paid in USA. I noticed you didn't post anything about the proshop that was where Nadal has his private indoor hard court, best proshop I've ever been to. Did you go? liked it? I honestly recommend doing the 3 day package vs the 5.5 days, most people are not fit enough to play so much for so long. That can reduce cost at the academy and allow for more time to travel elsewhere. This is just my perspective though. Thanks for the video, wish I go back sometime! Saludos!
@@cscummingsiv I went May 15-18 or so 2022, reserved like 6 months in advanced, it was basically 1,000 euros for lodging+ 3 days tennis, 12 hrs total (4 per day). Basically it was half lodge (4 nights) and half tennis.
Remember, these academies are heavily invested and owned by corporations, using athlete's name. Rafa academy is operated by Movistar, which is under Telefonica, which again, owns Virgin Media, O2 Germany, Vivoa and Telxius. And to add, Telefonica is heavily invested by big asset/corporations companies like, Vanguard, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Caixa Bank and Black Rock. Black Rock has been called the world's largest shadow bank, due to its power and sheer size of their global financial activities. Profits is their number 1 priority in this game.
This is simply not true, @aotennis3790. The Rafa Nadal Academy is not owned nor operated by Movistar, only partly funded by it and other sponsors. The Academy is fully operated and mostly owned by the Nadal family, and Rafa himself. I know because I’m familiar with the matter. Stop missinforming fans, as you evidently do not know anything about this.
Didn't like your reviews and videos but been watching the real tennis channel which I'm enjoying and you seem like a decent enough guy and play some decent ball. I went to the Ferrero academy Equelite, Alcaraz's home base, last year in autumn. Its a lot cheaper but that Iberia voucher sure makes it attractive from the US. Obviously the RN academy is more expensive and more pro, I visited during easter last year, however I really liked the familiar feeling of Equelite. Nearby in Barcelona where I live theres a bunch of academies and the level is so high, however for the whole package and going away for a long weekend Equelite is worth it.
I was in Mallorca a couple of weeks ago - I hired a car (Toyota C-HR hybrid) for 4 days for just shy of €100, so it’d probably be around about €130 for 6 days if anyone is wondering. Obviously, if it’s just for one person, you could go for a smaller (and cheaper) car. Island is definitely worth exploring if you ever get the chance.
@@MarkSansait stick to the coastal areas and the only thing stabbing you should be sharp rocks 😅 Or challenge them to a game of tennis instead of a knife fight - the ultimate high stakes match.
DJI would fix that drone for way cheaper. Understand if you need to keep filming and holding you over but I busted my mini 2 and it was like $100 to fix the camera, rotors and cowling
Hey Mark, thanks for sharing. It was informative and the cost is good for someone from the States. If you're in an Asian country, the conversion rate is very high and travel expense is even more. Appreciate the reference. Good that you made friends and did your 5.0 level increase? btw, what is your UTR rating?
The quality of coaching is not related to owners fame! Price is absurd in european standards, you can get same maybe better coaching in any other decent tennis club in EU
Assuming you make advertising $ from your TH-cam channel On an after tax basis your trip can be about 1/2 to 1/3 cheaper depending on your tax burden. Would recommend forming an LLC and hiring a CPA to advise you on how you can deduct business expenses for the content you’re creating for your business. Disclaimer: This is not tax advice
Don’t forget you had tennis lessons… which here in Nj is $125.00 hr .. I think over all it’s a great price considering hotel, lessons, flight ,food .. my question.was the lessons any good.?
Mark, how do you buy these sessions? Do you just go online and do it? Their websites is kinda confusing and doesn't say anything about the flight voucher
Good deal Mark, I was in France in 2014 or so and it as $1.40 to get 1 Euro, I spent $22 for a small salad it was crazy. Europeans were coming to USA to go shopping.
Thanks for your video. I have a question. How can I go from airport to the academy? Rent a car? book a transfer or there are trains, bus. Which would you recommend? Thanks.
from the Mallorca airport to the Nadal academy, I took a 45 minute cab ride from the airport. It wasnt Uber or Lyft... there was a taxi area outside of the terminal that took me
I went last year pretty much same dates, May 15th to 19th, 4 nights. I paid 130 euros per night tax included with breakfast as well. Mark spent 185euros. I did reserve in advance, 6 months before. I'm guessing Mark didn't guess with that much time and thus the much higher cost. I remember having look at cost a couple of months prior to my reservation and they were even less. My room was nicer too vs what he showed. 140usd per night with breakfast in Europe, to me it was very descent cost. The training was basically same cost.
I'm a recreational player, 3.5 USTA, and am absolutely in love with tennis and addicted to it. I have the money, but would it even be worth it to go as a tennis 3.5 USTA player? Or is this mainly for people who aspire to actually become PRO.
Me and my wife has visited Nadal academy two times. And I can promise you that you will have a great time. The coaches will put you in a group with players at the same level as you. We had halfboard and we had very nice dinners every evening with people from our group.
worth it for improving?, no , you can get to 4.5 just with youtube quite easily if you practice, but if your a big fan, i think its great experience, take that as fun vacation, instead of paying 1.5k to go to the beach, you pay 1.5k to go train tennis in cool place :)
Were you able to see Nadal while you were there? Is it by any chance that you are of Filipino descent? Is it okay to visit the academy just to tour around and also see the Nadal Museum?
5K for everything and all the extra gifts/expenses is very reasonable. I have friends in Mallorca that tell me crappiest hotels by the chic beach locations run at 1K USD a night!!!
@@joevelte4252 I am an older guy and attended something similar for 3 years and my game didn't quite improve. I improved certain things and my game improvements came slowly by doing thing on my own.
@@MarkSansait No that's not how opportunity cost works... If you are a contractor who would not be paid because you took your vacation, then the opportunity cost would be the money you would be making had you been working. If you are a FTE, on paid PTO, then there's NO opportunity cost since you are still getting paid the exact same amount whether you take your vacation or not. What do we think? Mark, personally, €5,000+ for a week is a lot of money. If you looked at JUST the academy cost alone, I would also say THAT was a lot of money too. You can find perfectly good academies around the world for a fraction of that cost.
