I sparred with Aaron often at the Emmanuel Community Center in Cincinnati just before he turned pro. Amazing athlete. As an amateur he ran 5 miles in the morning then at the gym after shadow boxing 10 rounds of sparring, 6 on the heavy bag, 6 on the speed bag, 6 jumping rope. Sit-ups all manner of exercises then would ask if anyone was up for a game of basketball downstairs. Nicest guy you could meet. His home was in a poverty violent area of the city. I could go on and on of my time with him. Loved the guy not a mean bone in his body outside the ring.

I once met Pryor outside Joe Frazier's gym in Philadelphia in 79 or 80 and didn't even know I had been talking to him until he left. I did the same thing with Kieth Thurman in St Pete Florida in 2019. My fighter (Anthony Big Daddy Overby) broke his hand in a fight he was winning and I stopped it in the 3rd. I was so upset over that I didn't realize Thurman was one of the guys I was talking to. I saw Kieth kind of regularly at other fights after that. Kieth is a super nice guy.

What an amazing fighter. Aaron Pryor threw an unbelievable amount of punches per round from so many different angles. He would straight up overwhelm his opponents through sheer will and tenacity. Here's a fun fact I'd like to share. I was actually scheduled to fight on the March 2nd, 1985 card at the Sands in the bout directly preceding Pryor - Hinton. Unfortunately, our bout got scrapped due to TV time for the main event. But, it was still an honor to be scheduled on the same card with such a great Champion. RIP Champ.

Pryor's trainer manager always used something to get I to Pryor's head. The magic bottle? Was just water with honey in it. But to Pryor, it was a magical elixir. Mind over matter. In this case exhaustion. Fatigue. If your mind thinks it a special bottle mix. Then brilliant to get his fighter to believe. There's no way if it were really a illegal bottle would the trainer say it that loud or draw attention to it. Brilliant by his corner.

The controversy about the "special" water bottle was solved by Luis Resto who was also trained by Panama. Asthma medicine in tablet form was crushed into powder and put into Pryor's special water bottle. It turned the water blue. In the interview Resto goes on to describe the effects of drinking the juiced up water. Arguello hit Pryor with knock out shots in both fights that Pryor was able to overcome because of this special juice.
