Prince of Persia is an action-adventure and platforming video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is part of the Prince of Persia franchise. The game was released in the United States on December 2, 2008 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and on December 9, 2008 for Microsoft Windows. It was later released on March 24, 2009 for Mac OS X via the Cider engine.
The game is set in ancient Persia, with a player-character whose name is not revealed in the game. He is accompanied by a woman named Elika, whom he met after a large sandstorm diverted him from his course and he ended up in a mysterious land. Players traverse many different environments using his acrobatic abilities to scale walls and even crawl on the ceilings. Throughout the journey, players combat various enemies as they attempt to cleanse the land of corruption. The game's storyline and setting borrowed some aspects from Zoroastrianism.

Ahriman whispers (soft voice in lowercase, harsh voice in caps)
"She's blinded you with her light. Burned her will until it became yours."
"RECLAIM THAT WILL. RECLAIM YOUR DESTINY."
    "MINE HAS BEEN THE IMPRISONMENT."
    "Mine has been the pain."
"I can be your beginning. Or your end."
    "She burned so brightly."
"A SHINING STAR FOR ALL US."
"Is he here to make such sacrifice?"
"OR HAS HE LET HIS FOLLOWERS FALL FOR HIM?"
    "Fall in his place?"
    "Fear not the night."
    "I will be free."
    "I WILL BE FREE."
    "Offer me your soul."
    "OFFER ME NO RESISTANCE."
    "SHE IS DEAD."
    "Dead for eternity."
    "BUT I WILL BE FREE."
"I SHALL BE FREE, AND WHERE THEN WILL THE LIGHT BE?"
"What candle will shine in the darkness now that she is gone?"
    "THE LIGHT BURNS."
    "The darkness soothes."
    "YOU SEEK JUSTICE?"
    "Then banish Ormazd. Free me."
"WHAT INJURY HAVE I DONE TO YOU?"
"That you have not done to me?"
    "The choice is not yours."
    "THE CHOICE IS NOT YOURS."
    "CHOOSE LIFE."
    "Choose death."
"It is the dawn that brings the pain."
"THE NIGHT THAT BRINGS THE DREAMS."
"THE POWER OF THIS PLACE WANES."
"And when I am free, she will already have been forgotten."

The theme of this game is based on the religion called Zoroastrianism, as in any other religion including Christianity, Islam, the religion of the Sumerians, Greeks and etc, there is God the mentor of mankind and the fighter against darkness. In the case of Zoroastrianism, God is represented by Ormuzd, who is also called Ahura Mazda, in religion it is believed that only by following his commandments a person will approach the peak of self-improvement and building a "paradise" on earth, however, there is also an opposing dark side - Ahriman, aka Angro Mainyo, with everything is very simple for him, his philosophy is directly opposite to the philosophy of Ormuzd, his goals and desires are connected with the defilement of everything created by Ormuzd and the return of the world to primitive chaos.
The most interesting thing is that the exploits of Ormuzd are often not done by him, but by people who follow his philosophy, which is noticeable in the game, because Ormuzd never directly appeared and did not help the heroes. Ahriman, on the other hand, often does all the crimes either with his own hands or with the hands of enemies struck by him, for example, the king who defeated him made him his mount and, using his pride and stupidity of people, found out his weakness, which led to the death of one of the great heroes of the world. That is, the morality of Zoroastrianism - if a person finds the strength in himself to resist temptations and defilement, he is able to change his fate as he pleases (well, or as Ormuzd says). Ormuzd will defeat Ahriman only when mankind can defeat him.
So what do I mean, in the game, as well as in religion, Ormuzd appears to be the bright desires of the main characters who purify defiled people and the earth, during the game the Prince becomes attached to the Princess, which Ahriman uses long before the defeat of his servants. He constantly whispers doubts, fears and grief into the ears of the protagonist, this can be especially heard if you turn down the music and turn up the volume of voices after the Prince is given the opportunity to cut down trees. Ahriman is ready to put pressure on the most painful and use the dirtiest tricks in order to achieve his goals. He is not as strong physically as the power of his defilement is strong, it causes heroes to become the death of even more heroes.
By using just one grain of sand, he took possession of the entire desert.

Thanks for explaining the philosophy so vividly. However, I disliked this ending. Why? Cos, the game barely built any chemistry or connection between these two. Compare this to "Sands of Time" and u'll see how poorly this part is done.
Philosophers talk about how temptation destroyes everything. But in reality I rather see, lazyness and half assed work, and how masterpiece gets ruined by cheap corporate profit motive, and short sighted "managers" and shareholders.

I don't agree, i think it really sells Ahriman's twisted words, "The Choice Is Not Yours". Not only is the Prince compelled to do something about Elika's sacrifice and put everything into jeopardy but so is the player. We are forced to go through with these actions. The credits have rolled, the game is done. But is it? We lose control over the story and the Prince when we continue to run across the desert and cut those trees.

Actually, during the course of your journey around the kingdom, it's revealed that the barrier or lock I don't remember which was already weakened from so much time having passed. So even if you had an option to leave, Ahriman would still get out by himself if not then by manipulating some other person.

The only problem is - the game never actually develops any proper chemistry between them. He barely had any thoughs about the princes, whatever there are, are always in the shadows, always like an afterthought.
If u compare this to the first game - the sands of time - there the prince had the guilt of destroying Farah's palace. He also had the pain of losing his own father and all his troops, which put him in the same footing as Farah. And prince often talks about a very strong desire about Princes Farah. Princess in turn reciprocates - calling him "my love" in the Harem and reciting a love poetry to him in the library. This kind of ending might make sense in Sands of Time.
Ghosts of the past, while portrays a much larger philosophy, doesn't provide any reason for this ending. This Prince is not a prince, he's a lowly burgler. And this princes is the empress of ruins and rubles, not empires. The promiscous "prince" neither showed any sign of deep connection nor any burning lust for the princess. And the princes never showed any feelings for him either.

I would say the Ahriman's whispering that the prince is listening while cutting the trees represents the conversation between Lucifer and Eve before she eats the apple in heaven, it's only a personal observation what it looks like for me; a reference in prince of persia the life's tree of the heaven.

xDD being honest dude - nope. DO You know that these kind of motives are all the same in buch of religions? E.G whole old testimony is based on Sumerian beliefs, the flood, the creation of world and mankind, garden of Eden etc. This game was based on old middle eastern tales/religion.

@@lxdead5585 okay buddy I understand your point but like I said, it was my observation about this part of the game, I didn't say it was a fact. To know the true about this part of the game we would have to ask the developers, but I believe that The tree in the game, is life, it's pretty clear, and if you cut off the tree, you interrupt the flow of life, and there is only darkness, not only bringing it to christianity religion but tree always was a simble of life, so in this case my interpretation of the whispers fits the Lucifer persuading eva to eat the apple, or to take away a part of the tree to give space to corruption. That is my vision.

    • @lxdead5585
      @lxdead5585 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@lucas.souza.f Yes, it is and You are correct, in most known religions and cults trees are symbols of life, energy, living force of the planet. That's why the symbolism here is quite simple to understand for - I think - everyone. Prince cuts the tree to steal it's life force to give it back to the princess.
I like the whole idea of using the order and chaos. Her father took tree's life to give it to his daughter and since that tree was kinda one of gifts/creations left by the "good god", princess gained some of his "light" powers. Her father created the vacuum in the force and thus brought chaos (evil, satan). By giving back what was stolen (life) she dies, order is restored. I like the idea that there is only one life that can flow at the present time and thus the choice is not so black and white and obvious. Would You leave Your loved one dead for "greater good" or let the whole world burn just for her/him to be saved? It was obvious cliffhanger for the sequel but I think that receiving not good enough reviews and sales, producers simply abandon the idea for the sequel.

    • @lucas.souza.f
      @lucas.souza.f 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@lxdead5585 I agree, there is a lot of symbolism into the game but I realised it was repetitive gameplay and your character couldn't even die and keep making the same thing the entire game, and that what brings the game to fail. It's necessary to have content and interesting history, romance, sexuality all these things that are popular, make a game sucessfull. Of course there are exceptions. That's why games based in old culture and beliefs just make sucess for a specific group of people. Most peopld don't care about the symbolism in the game they just want to have fun. So we can freely make our points about the symbolism.
