it was just bad timing. it seems steven was really into the conversation he was having and then here comes jenny. I think in an earlier episode we got to see another girl annoy steven when he was already working his charms on someone. don't think jenny was there to pick up on this though
Omg this needed a really flashy reveal, something like hell's kitchen with the doors, or both Joes have a giant ball above them and they both open at the count of 3... One has golden confetti, the other newspapers shreds...
@13:02 Jennie was sent home because when she pulls him away they talk about the same things they already went over. He felt like the relationship was going no where and felt like she used that coin but said nothing new
I cant watch any reality tv show - especially a dating show - without constantly thinking about lifetimes unREAL. It was obviously sensationalized but pulling back the curtain on how producers get reactions from contestants blew my MIND. Also love the trope of a producer contestant fling :)
I actually kind of hate dating shows because it’s basically “which beautiful blonde white woman will win” the tv show. If there’s a black woman I know she won’t win. We never win. But she’ll stay around juuuuust long enough to make you THINK she could. It’s so token. 😢 The world has so many negative feelings about us that’s not even conscious. I don’t even watch them anymore cause like… blah.
Same! I think the first and only time I've ever seen a black woman portrayed as a catch is on The Real World: Cancun (not a dating show, I know) when literally every single dude was falling over themselves for Jonna. That was like 10 years ago and it still sticks out in my mind because we just don't see that on TV
I was actually thinking the same thing lol. Well more or less- I was more like: "wait, who's who again?" I'm sorry but they all look extremely similar (even without talking about POC): beautiful thin white women with bleached/colored hair and tanned skin (but not too tan). With a few "token" black women (and no API girls ofc). Thanks guys. Because it's well known that POC only date each other, right? /s. Anyway, the only "dating" show with POC where it *SEEMS* it doesn't really matter is Love is Blind. Well I mean I've never watched it but I did see some commentary TH-camrs talking about it and it seems like the last cast was a bit more diverse. But again, I think that's because that’s the concept of the show lol. (Rambling for a bit but: Amber is beautiful just saying. And wtf is that: sending her home because they "were not having enough fun"? Like you can have fun later. I get wanting to have fun but if you only spend time goofing off, you don’t really get to know someone. And at some point, if you don't actually connect on a deeper level, it will never last. Wtf dude.)
oml watch the Courtship! Miss Remy is amazing she's the one choosing so she's not leaving, but not only that she has the BEST personality out of anyone I've ever seen on a reality show before. She's so genuine and kind, like we're only 4 episodes in, but you can see that all the guys see that about her as well.
@@SisselSasha it might be because Steven is a millionaire so doesn't even consider the serious stuff and just wants to "have fun". I'm kind of glad she went home bc girl dodged a bullet.
I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but the way they edited Carolyn is what made me think she wasn't going to end up with Kurt. They really emphasized how much she thought they were going to be together, almost making her come off a bit too much on that front (I think it's the editing not her) which does make for a more dramatic ending when he doesn't pick her, but she was just edited too strong in her certainty to be the final pick for me.
I've actually heard this tip from a lot of older women to p much say exactly what Carolyn said to Kurt "I want you to be sure when you choose me so date around" I've heard a lot of older women say that saying this will make the dude CRAZY about you, so I feel like it was more of a tactic and her playing the game than sincerity in that moment.
@@Roblox-jb2vf thinking about that as a dude, I don't see a female romance interest saying that as something that'd make any "dude crazy about you," but it has a coolness factor appeal, where it shows the woman's secure in herself, and a nice change from the typical woman who's pushy about long term romance after one good date when we barely know each other.
I tried watching the show after your first review and I couldn't make it through the first episode because I realized you describe things in a way more interesting and nuanced way that humanized them far more than the actual show did. I'm guessing it'll be the same with the ending but damn the way you talk about this show makes me want to watch it!
I would have never know about this show if it wasn’t for you but dang watching you discuss this as been so fun and so entertaining. Hopefully you get casted is they have a season 2 lol
I mean, Amanda- the "dumping on reality" podcast idea is great, you should do it yourself. It can be a segment of the Swell Shenanigans podcast! A few videos ago you talked about trademarking business ideas and not sharing them publicly etc, and then you go and offer these guys a free idea? Nooooo waaaay. I would only watch it if *YOU* were doing it, not them. Plus they have bias since they were dumped and were on the show- you stay a 3rd party and can ask questions the audience asks!
your ending is so much better😅 i think if the start of the final day they did the big reveal and then the tension inside of everyone either questioning their choices and whether they want to change their choices and even the joes getting nervous about does this money thing still matter after going through the whole process with their final 2 like yeh, totally agree theres better ways to get more genuine answers to the does money matter question
i also think doing the money reveal before the final dates could be interesting too, like to see of it makes more of a difference and also we get to see them finally being able to open up about their daily lives and also if the conversation of that date only revolves around money or if they just chat like they have prior to knowing
I totally watched this show solely because of your video. I don't watch much reality TV, and I would never have even known about the show without your first video. I also loved Carolyn's "can I go now" moment. It was perfect. I hope you get cast in season 2, I would love to see you on the show.
I know the logistics would be a pain, but I want to see them bring all of the women back for the reveal, I want the crowd reaction! And I agree the reveal has to become before the final choices.
I watched it all the way through and felt like Amanda's mom kinda ruined it by telling Kurt she was loaded. I felt like Steven chose the blonde over Anne solely based on her looks. I didn't feel like either man was really looking for a wife. The announcement at the end could not have been more underwhelming. I was just glad Carolyn was gone she was torture. I was super bummed about Annie I liked her way more than Calla. Calla was a fence sitter.
I’ve started writing a book where the heroine gets dumped on a Love Is Blind-type reality show in the prologue and then wants to just fade into oblivion but finds that a tad hard since everyone saw her get her heart broken on a worldwide reality show. 🤣
@@DinoSarma, have you read a romance novel lately? Drama is half the plot. Also, if you watch Love Is Blind, they’re absolutely convinced they’re in love. But either way, I believe the phrase I used in the first chapter was, “dumped” not “heart broken”. 😘
I can't lie, I have known and been a fan of Anne from her pageant days so I wanted her to win Steven. But I did both think this was trashy and good at the same time. Loved your video as always Amanda!
Me and my roommates blazed through the show in like half a week. It's just so gosh darn entertaining, every episode has more then a healthy dose of drama.
Showing the confessionals to them as a movie is such a cool idea for drama. I mean also for transparency but the idea is great. It's also cool how open the guys are about their feelings and how they're leaning on each other. Feels kinda sexist the way Kurt kept calling Carolyn dramatic. I get it was weird between them, but some people don't want to be friends after a breakup and it seems like she was hurt because they had such an attachment to each other.
I literally binged this show in a day yesterday after you mentioned it in The Courtship vid and watched your recap of the first two eps. I was hoping you’d revisit it and woke up to the notif. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Please keep doing this, make the videos longer if you need but I greatly appreciate your many hours just watching these shows plus everything else. You are great to listen to thank you
Your idea for the ending reveal made way more sense than what we actually got. Best of luck on season 2 ;) Also I couldn't find a video from you on it, so not sure if you ever watched, but I recently binged Fboy Island and I think you would greatly enjoy that show! It was on HBO Max last summer. I know it got renewed for a second season, but idk when that's coming.
PLEASE DO A REVIEW of the final three episodes of The Bachelor: Clayton season. I just want to hear you expound on all the ways Clay was a bad choice for The Bachelor. Pretty please and thank you.
Love this show! Really liked your ending reveal more. I wanted to see Carolyn react to Kurt being not rich because she talked about how sure he was the entire process! I’m curious if that was a factor in if she would of continued to pursue him so heavily
I watched this all the way through solely because of your videos on it and I agree, the ending was disappointing. Then again, Carolyn kinda concerned me so I was happy she wasn't chosen.
This was so interesting and fun to watch. I watched the first episode of the show but that's as far as I got because it was just too weird - I went to high school with Steven and already knew he had the money 😂 It was too surreal to watch someone I had an impression of when we were younger be on reality t.v. But now I might have to get into it for the drama of it all. Idk how this came across my feed but thanks for the fun time lol.
Lol telling someone you've known for a few weeks that you don't want to answer their questions/address their concerns because your love/connection should be enough is literally insane behaviour. "If he's insecure about everything he's not for me" while she's right, he's literally insecure because *she won't tell him anything* so all he has is his fears and anxieties
I know it’s an ancient reality show, but it would be hilarious to see you cover the “Of Love” shows. (Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, I Love New York, Daisy of Love)
I watched this show because of your first review and I was also surprised by how weak the end was compared to the rest of the season. Completely agree with you on how the reveal should have gone down.
this reminds me of a book I read yeeears ago, where a woman finds out her recently-dead partner was screwing tons of other women. And instead of it becoming negative, they all just become friends and have movie nights. Which is a good time, but a dating show probably shouldn't remind me of that lol.
Manda, no offense I would watch the batch-lure clone with you as a contender and I’m sure it would be top notch entertainment but I feel like you would absolute own it as a producer - you totally understand it better than most of them out there.
Like other have said, I’m not sure I have the patience to watch the show but I do enjoy your reviews. It feels like a friend telling you juicy gossip about people you don’t know lol.
I was clinging, til the end, to the idea that "one is definitely not" meant that Kurt was worth HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS (billions is unrealistic, we'd know him already) but mostly I'm glad you did this because this was a low-key enough show that I had a lot of "I know I streamed this but did I imagine it" moments. Much like when the original Joe Millionaire aired.
I watched this show when it aired (and got really into it lol) and while I get what you mean about Carolyn not wanting to feed into Kurt's fears, it really seemed like from the moment she got a private date with him she was full-on territorial and encouraging Kurt to disregard his own rational reservations, instead of doing anything to make him feel more comfortable about the idea of being together. I don't know how much of this was the edit, but the things she said to Kurt were very manipulative, and I got the sense that he was only keeping her on because the producers wanted to add drama to the finale. Suzanne was my underrated fave but I knew she'd be sent home, they tended to go for the women with more "traditional" interests. As much as they might be the alpha type, both guys seemed very intimidated by women whose interests or backgrounds they didn't already understand.
By the way, we need you to cover the show the Cabins at some point so it can get more exposure, and hopefully more LGBT/poc friendly reality show styles will get mainstreamed.
My Mom and I watched the original Joe Millionaire back in the day. It is the only reality show my Mother ever watched and aside from the old VH1 celebreality shows it’s the only one I’ve watched. I think we only kept watching for Zora who was delightful and I hope she’s doing well. Maybe I need to watch this one now. 😂
What they should REALLY do is when they make the final pick for which man they like best, they should also have to say who they think has money - because it would be interesting if they think the one they picked has money and that plays a factor, or if they DONT but like them anyway
They had the a show with the same premise in Germany and they actually gave the final two the option of either getting a pretty large sum of money or being with the guy, before they did the reveal. Right, like was she just suppose to keep the coin and not use it?
I think its the specific situation she used the coin for that rubbed him the wrong way
Yea I think it really came to the girl's looks and ages. She was older and I think that was the actual reason.
it was just bad timing. it seems steven was really into the conversation he was having and then here comes jenny.
Wait, so it ended that one guy was rich and the other guy was. ... slightly less rich?
yes 🤣 so ridiculous
@13:02 Jennie was sent home because when she pulls him away they talk about the same things they already went over. He felt like the relationship was going no where and felt like she used that coin but said nothing new
I think the "in the moments" you mentioned are generally called "talking heads." Because they only show the head and shoulders.
some people also call them confessionals
I cant watch any reality tv show - especially a dating show - without constantly thinking about lifetimes unREAL. It was obviously sensationalized but pulling back the curtain on how producers get reactions from contestants blew my MIND. Also love the trope of a producer contestant fling :)
Same here! That show is so underrated
I wish she would give her review of that show!
I agree that your idea for the reveal would work much better, it puts a spanner in the works but still gives the women a choice in their response
@@BijouxBianco I looked that up just now and I'm like....is this supposed to be a black woman?...
I have not watched a single second of this show but I loved your recaps. Reality tv just isn't for me but hearing the drama is a lot of fun.
8:19 how is Carolyn getting possessive when she told him to date other women 😭
Oh I REALLY love the twist of having the contestants get to vote on how well the tv show portrayed each other.
Calla was a fence sitter.
wait, Anne looks amazing though. superficially, id choose her over Cailagh(?). Beauty is a lot subjective i guess.
I’ve started writing a book where the heroine gets dumped on a Love Is Blind-type reality show in the prologue and then wants to just fade into oblivion but finds that a tad hard since everyone saw her get her heart broken on a worldwide reality show. 🤣
It’s a little dramatic to say “heart broken” when booted off a dating show on the first episode.
I'm never going to watch a show like this, but I enjoy your summaries haha 😄
OMG, i would see the show just to see you awkwardly interact with the crew. Also, your ending makes more sense. Finally, good idea for the podcast.
Kurt more attractive than anyone I would ever have a chance with so, no, it wouldn't bother me that he isn't rich lol
Please keep doing this, make the videos longer if you need but I greatly appreciate your many hours just watching these shows plus everything else. You are great to listen to thank you
Your idea for the ending reveal made way more sense than what we actually got. Best of luck on season 2 ;)
Also I couldn't find a video from you on it, so not sure if you ever watched, but I recently binged Fboy Island and I think you would greatly enjoy that show!
When’re we getting the show about who’s going to win Martin’s love?
Simping and commenting for Swell!
This is what life's all about! 🙆♀️
A new video from Amanda! Yes! I had a long day and then to fall back on something you created with joy... thank you.
this show actually seems really fun! i'd pay to see you in season 2 haha
You should give “married at first sight” a look it’s pretty full on. Love your content.
MAFS is out of controlllll I love it!!
I just realized the best way for this type of show to end would be for the two guys to get together hehe
Idk how this came across my feed but thanks for the fun time lol.
wow!! super weird!!
The wiggle art in the bg!!!!!!!
Look at all those wiggles! 😆
Amanda, if you need someone on the show with you, I gotcha! I wouldn’t mind doing this! It seems like a lot of fun!
Are there any gay reality dating shows? I urgently need to find a millionaire helicopter pilot boyfriend just as attractive as Steven.
Seconded! Bonus points if Amanda is host.
If you haven't watched Prince Charming then you are missing out. That show only had one season I think but it still lives rent-free in my head.
@@nbucwa6621 Where can I watch it? I’ve been trying to find it everywhere, to no success.
@@genericgamefan6621 I sail the high seas of the internet my friend. I have no idea where you could legitimately watch it
Your first video introduced me to this show and I LOVED it omg I loved just about every messy aspect of it, it was gold so THANK YOU
YAY!!!!!!!! I loved Amanda's first video on JM. I was hoping she would do another. Day just got so much better!
13:45 In her defence...he IS hot.
I was also thinking that 💀 the other guys aren’t my type at all, but Winston? Yes ma’am
I love when you talk about reality TV. Also from what I can see that top looks killer on you 🙌
What you call In The Moments I've always heard referred to as confessionals
I know it’s an ancient reality show, but it would be hilarious to see you cover the “Of Love” shows. (Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, I Love New York, Daisy of Love)
I watched this show because of your first review and I was also surprised by how weak the end was compared to the rest of the season. Completely agree with you on how the reveal should have gone down.
Martin was just so wholesome. He stole the show. 😌
this reminds me of a book I read yeeears ago, where a woman finds out her recently-dead partner was screwing tons of other women. And instead of it becoming negative, they all just become friends and have movie nights. Which is a good time, but a dating show probably shouldn't remind me of that lol.
Please tell me the book. I want to read it.
@@DinoSarma "Dogrun" by Arthur Nersessian
Manda, no offense I would watch the batch-lure clone with you as a contender and I’m sure it would be top notch entertainment but I feel like you would absolute own it as a producer - you totally understand it better than most of them out there.
I really do not like reality tv, but I love your videos on it. Thanks for the Swell Entertainment
I'm so ready to see you on a realty show!
Thank you William for keeping us fed with this content
genuine enthusiasm and the electric smile, i had to sub lol
Your reality show recaps are so good
The problem with sharing the ITM's is now people won't be as open in future seasons.
When you said they connected with the producer it reminded me of that one SNL sketch
i believe another term i've heard for "in the moment" sort of clips is "talking head" segments
the fit is serving. thank you for blessing my eyes
Good for Carolyn, she's gotta protect her own emotions and who cares if that guy feels like she's being "dramatic"
Fr
Like other have said, I’m not sure I have the patience to watch the show but I do enjoy your reviews. It feels like a friend telling you juicy gossip about people you don’t know lol.
I'd never watch this show, but I love your commentary on it 🥰
I just cannot watch reality shows but this I absolutely loved!! I have kept recommending it to everyone. lol
I watched the show bc of you and I also need a second season. They should take all your notes.
As a Carolyn, we just get used to people calling us Caroline and stop correcting them lol
thank you for the clarification Caroline.
This is an underrated joke
After your last video about the show, I started watching lol ... not gonna lie, was very entertaining 🤣
Much like when the original Joe Millionaire aired.
petition for swell not to be on a show but to host her own dating show
Your dress really makes your eyes pop it looks good. Also, love your dog. (Am only at the beginning of the video but needed to say it)
I desperately need one of these dating shows to end with some of the women getting together instead of with the guy the drama would be 10000000000/10
I love how the "poor person" still owns their own fucking business
he's upper middle class at least
this video is the most anticipated sequel of the century
YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS UPDATE!
you have such an eye of media i love it
Why was it not called the millionnaire and the pauper?
God if Amanda got into one of these shows id definitely follow it because GOD JESUS I WOULD NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT
I feel like you would make a really great producer ngl
YESSS i've been anticipating the follow up!
What they should REALLY do is when they make the final pick for which man they like best, they should also have to say who they think has money - because it would be interesting if they think the one they picked has money and that plays a factor, or if they DONT but like them anyway
