  • Phil Okwedy is 58 and from Pembrokeshire. Born in Cardiff of a Welsh mother and Nigerian father, he is an oral performance storyteller and myth-maker who draws deeply on his dual heritage and multiple cultures in order to find the contemporary in the traditional.
Phil is a former primary school teacher and is now frequently finds himself back in schools facilitating Lead Creative Schools and Cynefin projects for Arts Council Wales.
Phil regularly works with fellow storyteller and clinical psychologist, Steve Killick, running Feelings are Funny Things, a programme for exploring feelings, thoughts and actions with young people.
Storytelling has traditionally been the way information, culture and morals are taught and passed down through generations. How important is storytelling in 21st century education? Should it be at the heart of our education system or have modern teaching techniques eclipsed the ancient art of storytelling?
Our discussion particularly focuses on the new creative curriculum in Wales and the Lead Creative Schools programme
