Hey mate, with the batteries could be that you've left them fully charged for a long period of time. With LIPO's try and keep them below 30% when travelling or not using them. Hope that helps.

Ben you have to go to some of the mammoth lakes and make sure you go to the top of Mammoth Mountain you should mountain bike there in the summer and lastly you should start geocaching

BEN LOOK!!! the self discharge on the batteries, as soon as it enters that mode the batteries will say they are full and then suddenly drop to a couple of %. It's a well known bug. Set them to 10 days and always make sure you charge before flying to cancel the self discharge mode. If you land at 60% battery then come back a day after never use it. Always charge first to reset the battery. Hope this helps!
I personally don't agree with the 10 day option. Stored at 100% is bad on these batteries. The longer they are stored at 100% the worse it is on them. I have always set mine to 3 days. And I never ever charge them fully until the night before I shoot. And never ever leave them plugged in unattended. Once they are full unplug them. I would also not store them in the case. When your home pull them out. I have never had an issue.

I had the same problem with Inspire. Battery indicateror said full and after 3 minutes of flying everything went red. I was above a river at that time. Barely managed to fly to closest bridge, over the street, missed a car, missed a road sign just by an inch and landed with a little slide, but no damages. So I'm happy.

Its great to see the behind the scenes of these things, I'm working on a film in college on such a smaller scale than this, and I'm being told to get everything in such order and precision, and its nice to see that even on a much much larger scale of making films for BMW, there is time to still have fun, and really enjoy the ride (bc ur driving a fancy nice car, you see what i did there?) as always love the blogs and can't wait to see the final product :)
It might be false senor info that grounded your drone. DJI uses smart Li-PO batteries and they recommend calibrating each battery after 10 charge cycles (or flights). You do this by discharging the battery below 8%, then let it cool down for 30min (never charge a warm Li-PO) and then charge it back up to 100%. Never leave it for longer than 30min at such a low charge. Also never store a Li-PO battery below 40% or above 50% (DJI recommended) for longer than 24 hours. Doing so will dramatically decrease the life and capacity of your cells. DJI do have auto discharge function built into every battery that by default will kick in after 10 days for your safety. You can also set it for each battery in the DJI GO app to less days. This is a very slow discharge and are only there for your safety because a charged Li-Po's cells will start to swell up and it could catch fire. I recommend reading up on Li-Po batteries to prolong the life of your very expensive batteries. Also flying your batteries below 30% is very bad for your cells. Land between 40% and 50% and only charge them the morning or night before you fly (If needed hover until you reach it). You can get a lot of cycles out of these batteries if you take care of and understand them.
Yo Ben. If you hold the radios perpendicular to your mouth when you speak into them instead of flat against, you'll get much clearer speech coming through. Yours truly, a volunteer firefighter. :D
@mrbenbrown It's good to do a complete discharge of the DJI batteries every X amounts of flights. The app should prompt you to run them down to 10% for example. On another note did you meet Abe Kiselvitz at Mammoth? He was there at the same time as you doing a weekend with GoPro
The battery problem is when you charge it and don't use it for a while (even like a day or two). The charge will not hold over cold/warm rapid changes. Always charge 24h before shoot if possible.

Mr Brown, hate to be the guy cautioning you, but Nicole holding a cell phone over an exposed fuel tank (as seen from 8'10") and subsequently filling the car is so incredibly dangerous you should be thankful a spark was not ignited from that cell phone. Be aware of the electrical vibration from a cell phone! In all honesty, don't ever do that again, it is really very dangerous! ;)
