I was fishing on bogue inlet pier eastern nc and old man asked me if I wanted to catch fish " I said that's why I'm here " he cut my gotcha off my rod and tied it with that loop he said "you'll catch fish now". sure enough I started catching. love to learn from the old timers. The loop works. thanks for the video
Rough day fishing. Ran rear treble barb through my arm. Pushed it through and cut off the bard. Everyone said I could not replace hook. You proved that wrong. Works like a charm. Thanks for a simple fix.👍
Great video, sir ! A very well organized presentation of a few simple steps to replace the hooks and wire on the plug body; KISS ! Your attention to detail, your lure-tuning Bonus Tips, and your collection of old Gotcha Plugs, shows your dedication to refurbishing these older lures to live again; TIGHT LINES !!!
Since the wire rarely rusts (just the hooks) you can rap a split ring on the front and back wire loops to quickly replace rusted treble hooks without having to change the wire!
Great video. I had a blast in rodanthe this October slaying bluefish and getting my first Spanish this year. This is very educational and I appreciate it. (The blues destroyed 2 of my plugs I need to rebuild them)
Gotcha lure is something I see for the first time in this video. Never saw them before in my country, the rest of Europe or north Africa. Great explanation, thank you very much for that. Since I don't know where to buy them, maybe I'll try to make one or two. In Mediterranean we don't have much spanish mackerels, but there are other fish that would be interesting to catch on this lure. Thanx again!
Great video, I was about to throw away several gotcha plugs and started looking for .031 in dia SS wire after disassembing one. I will look at how you refinish the plugs. My experience is there will be something about a few plugs that make fish hit them more of a like group of plugs - havent figured that out!
Do you paint the heads? mine lose the orange paint after a dozen casts, i went with the single hook option by cutting the trebles and opening the eye of the single hooks and they swim great.
I have painter the heads . Get some paint powder and heat the lead head and dip just like a jig head and I have painted the plastic bodies with white spray paint .The problem I have is finding the gold treble hooks.
thats way to much work. its alot easier to cut the eyes pf the hooks and use split rings to attach new hooks and make it alot easier for future hook replacements.

I just fixed my plug. Thanks for the video!
👍
Very good. Thanks, I just bought my first two gotcha lures.
That's awesome! Gotcha lures are a great choice for fishing. I hope they bring you lots of success on your fishing trips!
Easier to get a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel cut the eyes off the hook add split ring makes it easier to change the hooks

Love these things off the surf city pier
That appears to be one of the plastic lures. Does this work on the metal Got-cha also?

I'm glad the video helped . Some of the guys I fished with in the 90s showed me how to rebuild them so I'm just passing it along .

You are a genius

Fantastic, thanks
thank you....show us how to add the hair on the back please!
Awesome nice video
I hope it helped.
Can you put a single on the back with some hair? Lose some fish but easier to get off the hook once in the boat.
Yes , you can use single hook on back with hair . Cut the rear off by 1/4" .
Where do you order your replacement hooks from?
I have been looking for some gold hooks . They are hard to find . If you run across a good resource please post .
@@wildlifeadventures-13 There are plenty of them on Ebay. Be ready to shed some money because they are not cheap.
I now have new knowledge.
Jolly Roger is my favorite
I like Jolly Rogers to , Nice place to fish .
CUT THE HOOK AND USE SNAP RINGS FOR NEW HOOKS MUCH EASIER
Freaking god
First off your going need to put on a pair of glasses
thats way to much work. its alot easier to cut the eyes pf the hooks and use split rings to attach new hooks and make it alot easier for future hook replacements.
I tried that!! When you do that it makes the hooks hang to low and when you cast it will hook you line almost every time. Good Luck!!
Why don't you cut the hook off put a split ring and the hook and that's all you have to do you're making it too hard for yourself
If you add a split ring to the wire, it will be to loose and when you cast the lure it will tangle on the main line every time.
