One thing for sure is insurance companies never lose. They'll always have their asses covered. So doesn't matter how you lost you bike, your premium will go up. Is it worth more than saving for a new bike is more of your own decision.

id say 6 months is good till the upgrade, until then you should try out the bike in twisty roads/highway and keep increasing speed in those corners, reason i say that is because controlling a bike at lower speeds compared to higher speeds is infinitely different and will undoubtedly make you a better rider
