it remains to be seen how well-realized all the elements of this game will be when it's finished, but in theory this is like my ultimate ideal game. i'm a mega casual, and the most fun i've ever had in a game was in pirates of the caribbean online. i've got a major pirate fantasy thanks to those movies
It looks amazing to me, I just don't know how they're gonna add replayability to the game. Seems like there is a finite number of things to do, and once you've done them all, the game no longer has fun.
Where they are now, I agree, they a fairly repetitive game, but if they get the funding, and such stuff, they might be add Ship v. Ship or something where the firing people out of the cannon would work really well. And/or they could add a king of the hill type thing, where it takes longer to find, or to dig up the treasure. Or, they could add in treasure hunting in a fort, which could be much like an island, but with a more complicated path to confuse the players. Basically, there's a whole slue of things where the base mechanics, and setting are already set up.
I never really was interested in any of the other iterations but SoT presents an interesting opportunity if they hop on the PUBG hypetrain with their own gamemode where they start on the map with a slowly encroaching storm that forces all the ships and their crews together. Respawns should still be enabled but there would be two ways to eliminate a team: sinking their ship or having all 4 crewmates on the Ferry of the Damned at the same time which creates the opportunity that if your ship is sunk and you board an enemy ship you can take it for yourself and stay in the running. Your ship would only start out with 25% of the usual stock of supplies (planks, cannonballs, etc. Perhaps solo ships wouldn't be affected by this for balance against a crewed galleon) so stopping at islands to scavenge would be a high priority.

I remembered something about amateur sailing. If the wind is directly against you, you should (tack) turn the ship a bit to the side of the wind and send your ship a bit diagonal to your true course, with your sails turned all the way to the side. That way you get some wind in the sails and you're still going in roughly the same direction. You will just run a bit to the right of your course. Then when you feel too off course, tack left diagonal of the wind, with the sails cranked all the way to the left side, and run a bit diagonal in that direction for a while. That should keep your speed up.
for anyone interested in memorizing port/starboard, port and left have the same number of letters, and port (the wine) is red (port is red, starboard is green)
You know, Most people know to pull the sails back up so that the wind isn't blowing the ship forward when you drop anchor and sending everything flying forward when it stops abruptly.

5:30 a pace in the game is when you have your compass out, and hold left click then walk forward, it makes you walk paces
