    It is very illegal here to spread money we value our currency so much that we do not allow it to be stepped on anyhow, no drinking and smoking here. Never call me auntie because i am not your maid lol. Batswana and their funny way, i used to hear people here on YT calling me mom yoo ae i couldn't stand that but now i am fine. I learnt it means no harm. No harassing people here the police go lock you in the cell. Here we wear camouflage clothes tell them sis. Thanks for sharing sister

    The best teaching so far. I met a Nigerian who insulted us and even say Botswana is a bush and poor. He said Nigeria can feed all of us including our President. I told him but we Batswana never go to Lybia or cross oceans to Italy. I made sure to pass his name to the relevant office. He will never step his foot in Botswana. He cant insult my President and I fold my arms like that.

  • @phemelobolokwe7919
    @phemelobolokwe7919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I'm from Botswana but some of these things aren't quite true. There's nothing wrong with calling someone brother, whether it's someone u know or not. Aunty is aunt, ur mum's sister n it's also used, it's just that in the recent years people started attaching negativity to the name using it to mock or spite others to mean an old lady. Drunk driving happens week in week out, that's why bars n clubs are always packed with cars every weekend, so people break the law all the time despite heavy penalties.

    • @calvinfranklin2927
      @calvinfranklin2927 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@helengeorgeslifestyle But Helen is right , she didn't say it is wrong but just a warning for a foreigner to not expect the same energy as back home when they refer to a total stranger as 'aunt' and about drinking and she is also right, when police see you drinking while driving, instantly you are on the wrong side of the law, and test will be conducted, so that was a good caution as well, i think she is only wrong about smoking, you can drive and smoke in your private car as long as it is not marijuana which is illegal in BW.

    • @phemelobolokwe7919
      @phemelobolokwe7919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@calvinfranklin2927 I know she didn't say it's wrong. But I don't want other people to think we don't quite know the meaning of aunty in the English vocabulary for us to find it offensive hence I explained. The drunk driving I believe is illegal in all countries across the world, it's not just a Botswana thing.

      Well thats coz auntie is wat the kids say to the housemaid to be respectful so thats probably why some batswana woman might have a problem and batswana are kind of xenophobic some times but its a bit better now it used to be worse back in 2004 and 2006 but now they are used to living with foreigners. I don't know if you have noticed how they don't like it when you speak in English too much 😂🙆‍♂️😂😂 then they ask you why you don't speak setswana 😂😂😂 but the younger generation is ok thou 😂

    As a younger Motswana, we do sometimes call people who are older than us Auntie and Uncle we just do it in our own language (Setswana). We do it most of the time to show respect for that older person. And for calling a person my brother or my sister we do it with our peers, especially when you are very close to that person.

    😂😂😂 you made me laugh… bare “carry your righteousness and go”…….. if you try and drag someone because you don’t like what they are wearing, people can turn around and drag you for that… we love our sisters and we protect them from any humiliation.. what we believe in is that if you feel someone if not properly dress move them to a corner and talk to them privately, if you don’t embarrass them they might appreciate it😅 even though some might find it offensive because it’s their body and clothes so you have no say…. You can’t walk in public holding an open beer bottle or drinking it 😂 if the police catch you is either you empty it on the ground or get arrested…. And then we have the greeting (depends on which side of the country you are, north or south) In the north you are expected to great everyone who’s older than you as a sign of respect, then in the south the person who does the greeting is the one who came and found a person already there regardless of age 😅 they believe respect should come from both sides… that’s why we have a proverb that says “ an elder has to show respect to someone younger so that they may reciprocate it” but we still respect our elders 😊
