  • Alex was a Borough Councillor in Ashford Kent, and a road safety campaigner. He was diagnosed with MND in February 2020. The disease left him totally paralysed, unable to speak, and eventually unable to breathe. On 22nd July, just five months after his diagnosis, Alex passed away. He was 31 years old and recently married to his long-term partner Elizabeth.
A person’s lifetime risk of getting the disease is one in three hundred. It is more common than you might think. Like Alex, a third of people diagnosed with MND die within a year and most within two years of diagnosis.
Today there is no cure for MND, but advances in gene therapy research are bringing an effective treatment tantalisingly close. The AlexWardFund.org is supporting research programmes at the world leading MND Care and Research Centre at King’s College in London. Please donate to this vital work and help to end MND. That would be the best legacy for Alex and all victims of this cruel disease.
