- The FIFA 17 demo has been released in the UK for Playstation & Xbox and I decided to have a few games and give my feedback on what I think about the demo. I want to know your opinions though, what did you think about it? Do you like the gameplay, layout and/or graphics? Or can you not notice much difference? Let me know in the comments! I really do hope you guys enjoy this demo review! My FIFA 16 demo review went down really well so hopefully you guys like this one too!
I love it. Passing is better, shooting feels good, referees are lenient, menues look cleaner, graphics are absolutely incredible and the soundtrack is even better. Not sure how people can complain tbh

I can't score penalties
Lewis Rooney what makes me fk up my pens a lit in this game is that i dont do the run up.. like you if just hold down a shot without running up itll slowly pass - running up will make it go airborne (if that makes sense)
Because the gameplay is dated
Definitely does feel a step up from last year in most areas. The biggest complaint from me is still the AI on legendary being too focused on possession & pass accuracy but other than that i'm really liking the feel of the game. :-)

I didn't watch the video yet, but from what I played, I absolutely loved the journey gamemode but I think the gameplay itself is very fast-paced, there's some times in the game where you just don't know what's happening and can't get the ball of the AI...

The low-driven shot is literally too overpowered this year. Sometimes goalies don't even have time to react to it.
Also the corner kicks are really weird this year. They clearly bend too much.

The Journey is honestly amazing..they only let you play like 10 minutes of a game but it's just fantastic..the interactive base around it and how the reporter asks you questions about the team and your own performance. Just spectacular!
Oh please. The script writer can't have been older than 7. If you were captivated by anything shown in The Journey part of the demo then you're the most easily pleased person on the face of the planet. It was cringey at best.

+Nylands I just can't possibly see what you found captivating about it. It's been done a thousand times before on other games, yet you're applauding EA for doing something they should (and could) have done years ago. Ofcourse it's something new, and that's an interesting concept, but Christ almighty the script in the demo was damn awful.
I loved it too, definitely the most exciting part of the game for me. And I'm not easily pleased at all, in fact I'm probably more critical of most things than the average person.
@Matt - The script does appear extremely obvious & very predictable, but that was bound to happen! Stereotypes will be evident just like in 2k's My Career, but as this game is for a worldwide audience with players being as young as 4 or 5, I can see exactly why it's dumbed down so much. It doesn't really bother me too much though, I still think for a first try it's a good addition from EA and despite the fact as you said, it is long overdue, they still deserve credit for actually deciding to do something about their neglected offline experience as opposed to continuing to let it rot and focus all their time on Ultimate Team.

Something no one seems to pick up on is the Ai never attempting skill moves... If they did the offline gameplay would drastically improve, the better teams would have the skill full players meaning they would attempt more skill moves which would show far more variation in gameplay

I still feel like the AI is too possession focused, and I find myself winning the game yet losing the possession battle every game I play, no matter the difficulty and no matter the teams. One example from the demo: I played as Real Madrid vs Gamba Osaka and Seattle; both games the other team had ~55% possession and lost by multiple goals with barely any chances of their own.
It's definitely better than last year though. As to game speed, I feel like the players themselves move slower but the game is moving faster

I was able to play the beta but I was only able to play a few games band cause o could not find many games online. The beta seemed better than FIFA 16 but every new game needs time to find out if it's actually good. I'm looking forward to FIFA 17 coming out and watching your career modes. Also, hopefully you have some online series coming up!
the game seems smoother than before
Just some things I've had success with:
Don't overskill... Passing reminds me a lot of an improved PES 15. Pretty awesome smooth passes inside the box. Also I've had ridiculous success with the 4-2-3-1 Narrow formation. Gives the outside players more opportunity to cut in for the through balls past the last defensive line close to goal. I play on world class so it may not help perfectly but that's just what has worked for me. Great demo imo
My thoughts:
Pros:
- More fluid passing
- Graphical fidelity
Cons:
- Keepers(Animations, Reflexes and Dives)
- Set Piece Rewrite
- Crosses
The gameplay looks very fast-paced, at least from what I could gather from the video. I myself will still be playing fifa 14 on the PC (still using the engine that came out before ingite hehe) because I honestly prefer it to the newer engines - especially with all the tweaks I've made to it since 2013 - and because fifa 16 onwards won't run on my laptop. xD
Played the demo and I ended up uninstalling after about 9 matches.
Too many frustrating aspects such as wonky physics, players feet clipping through the ball as you make a tackle on a consistent basis, the AI turning into Barcelona at will when you have more than 50% possession, and the AI all seemingly having the strength of the hulk whenever they put their back to you. I get it, it's a physical aspect of the game, but dybala shouldn't be able to hold off Ramos with the same ease Ibra can.
Similarly I felt like the dribbling took a step backwards. The ball feels like a mix between a balloon or a lead weight that your players struggle to get out in front of them. Just not the improvement I was looking for in the next FIFA.

***** You're both wrong. It's Git Gud. And I can beat the Legendary AI, it's just not fun to play against. I don't mind a challenge as long as it's fun and not completely broken. Not exactly fun to have a Ibra get pushed off by Nagatomo yet Ramos can't push Dybala off the ball.
it's a demo, its far from the final game.
+a very creative name you do realise this is a demo and not a beta, which means the only things EA can fix are minor issues and bugs. The gameplay from the demo will be pretty much the same as the full release of the game.

Everything seems to be improved this year, good job by EA getting frostbite on board!
What do you think about teams level and players skill? In fifa 16 sometimes i cannot win against Bolivia and then score 20 goals against Brazil. Like everybody plays almost at the same level

Matt I WBA boy, if you wanna score a bunch of goals then play fifa street. About time too, we were already supposed to play with next gen graphs, physics but unfortunately we're still struggling on with pesmire-like running players, magnetic passes, shoots flying like rockets. What would you like? players with supernatural powers moving the ball from the backfield with dribbling the opponents one by one then finish it by bisycle or scissors kick? That's not shaolin soccer, this is the football game based on real teams and players. Fifa or Pes has to do its best to provide the top sense of reality as each game aims to do.
I agree. Last year's game was almost a game made for casual players. Everything was a flip of a coin, be it passing, strength, pace... the entire game felt like a balancing act between good and bad players.
Last year was the first FIFA I truly began believing there may be a 'handicap' system in place due to what you touched on there. I definitely felt in multiple games that my opponent (or myself!) would experience important moments which were determined not by skill but by pure luck, and it began getting quite tiresome. I must say however, I haven't noticed anything like that in the demo so far, it really does feel all about your skill and ability to handle pressure situations (note my miss with Benzema, for example).
***** As it should be! I never agreed with the whole pace situation in Fifa 16 either... I think they couldn't fix it so they just broke it instead to the point where it didn't really matter.
I said this about FIFA 16 and it appears it will be applicable to FIFA 17 (or FIFA 16.5 as I call it), the problem with the offline Human vs CPU gameplay is that the entire gameplay system for FIFA is geared toward the Human vs Human experience. The way the game plays, the AI on your team, first touch error, pass error, etc is all geared towards making an "exciting" and "balanced" Human vs Human experience for their most profitable audience, FUT. There has been very little work done on the CPU AI and especially towards teams having their own gameplay style. I hope this will change by launch, but I foresee many of the issues of FIFA 16 offline gameplay being an issue in FIFA 17.
Very good comment, and I do agree. The opposition AI has had little work done to it so improvements are hard to spot this year, and as I said right towards the end of this video; playing offline will be a bit like last year, but playing online will be more enjoyable. Hopefully when the full game is released however the AI is slightly tweaked.
I agree. It is too bad there is such a stigma for youtubers using sliders because that is where you can really make improvements to the base gameplay.
Demo is good i agree with what you said................and i have find it real enjoying to play and i can't wait for the official release date..........truly a better game than last year

Is it true that the graphics were mich better in the beta version compared to the demo? I heard they had to downgrade the graphics because of frame rate dropping in the beta version.

I played juve in my 3rd game and they had 96% pass acc, and 73% possession, on legendary at half time. But then I had matches where I'd edge out possession. Doing pretty well, but the ai are far too calm on the ball at the back, and they need to have much more urgency
i think the demo is good my only worry like Docks said is the ai don't look great hopefully EA fix that before the game comes out

Headers are back! I also agree with you Docks that FIFA 16 was the worst ever.
Shielding is way too frequent and OP. Also getting to grips with set pieces is quite difficult

Just a tip to make FIFA 16 against legendary A.I. more playable and exciting, just turn down the acceleration and sprint speed to 49. I just had a 3-2 win for example where I had 12 shots and the opponent 10 shots. The game is probably quite a bit easier, but it certainly feels more lively. I did the same thing on FIFA 15 btw.
How are you conceding 10 shots to AI that doesn't even try to attack? I don't think I've collectively conceded 10 shots in the 20 or so games I've played.

The AI not creating enough chances is obviously because of your defending qualities.
I'm not too sure about that, personally. I do feel like I can defend quite well but at times i'm very poor, especially when it comes to positioning. With more direct play and higher tempo, i'm pretty sure the AI could exploit me from time to time the way I exploit the AI!
Trust me, whenever you get out of position the AI will abselutely roast you.

That's not true simont, the ai in this FIFA just like last years only cares about possession and holding the ball for ages. Nothing to do with defending because they hardly test you defensively
I actually agree with most things you have said about Fifa 16. I consider myself a good player (league 1 in seasons) but sometimes my defenders seem retarded and the cpu goes into god mode with perfect passing. Also sometimes when attacking my players dont even run looking for spaces. They just keep standing 2 meters from me.
I hope this is all better in the new fifa 17 because fifa 16 sucked.

It's a good game but I wish The Journey had more than just one game and a post game interview
I feel like everyone wanted more of the journey but by making everyone feel that, EA have smashed it because now they know you're 100% gonna play through all of it on full release
For the demo I don't think it's too big of a problem. It gets you excited for the full release when you'll be able to play the full story! Not long to go now. :-)

Just to touch on your point about the improved graphics: Demos are very misleading when it comes to graphics in this day and age where pre-orders are all the rage. There isn't much content in a demo meaning devs can use all of or rather most of a console's PCs processing power on the graphics so while the graphics will be improved from 16 I think you will find it will be less so than the demo.

It looks little bit like FIFA 11, which in my opinion was the best FIFA. So yeah i'm very excited about this year's FIFA.
FIFA 11 & 12 were the best ever for me, so to see someone comparing this years to the golden days makes me very optimistic!
One thing though is that it is impossible to steal the ball off of someone.. They just do that new strength back turned to you thing and you can never get the ball.

I hope they'll add some harder mode (with more ofenssive AI), because defending is really easy.
I still don't see why they have 'Ultimate' as a difficulty on single player UT but can't implement it to Career Mode!

Docks, re defending, is it not the case that (if we're honest) ALL teams defend like that by and large? Often organised and all in unison, sometimes one makes a mistake or is caught out of position, and with this in mind, does that not make it *closer* to a true reflection of games, cos keeping in mind the pared down timescale and amount of games of fifa we/people play, mistakes just *feel* more frequent & resultingly we think they affect us more than those that occur in the one or two games we see real players play per week? Just imagine if we could control/switch perfectly all the time and the AI was *always* there for us when needed... there'd hardly ever be any goals and games would be purely played between the two 18 yard areas, which sometimes happens, but rarely so imvho, the 'flaws' are not only good, but necessary, frustrating as they may well be, to us all.apologies for the thoughtdump.
Yes of course, and you are correct. A defence at this level is always going to be well organised, drilled and structured, so naturally it will be hard to break down, but if we were able to flawlessly switch and control our defenders we'd never be breached! So yes, a very good point. I feel like however it can be a little difficult to control your player without him seemingly slipping and sliding around the pitch, but again I think this might just be a problem with me being a little too forceful and showing a lack of discipline!

FIFA 11 or FIFA 12. Ultimate Team back then was so fun and games didn't feel as competitive. Some people may consider that a bad thing but for me I enjoyed the seemingly more friendly battles between opponents. Not to mention the fact that the gameplay was so much better than it is now. You really felt the difference between a technical player and a predominantly physical player, and you could counter and exploit weaknesses with your strengths much better than now. As the years have gone by I feel that FIFA has got progressively worse, but i'm slightly encouraged by 17 looking a bit better than 16. Maybe it's going to improve year after year! ... hopefully.

I don't really like the new penalty-taking, it's really hard for me to score penalties in this game. I also agree that FIFA 16 was the worst FIFA to date. Nice video, have a great day, Docks!
I never played FIFA 16 but I still play 15 and I really think this game is going in the wrong direction, passing feels atrocious, I mean there have been innumerable amounts of times where the player I'm controlling just passes the ball in the complete opposite direction from where I'm directing it. Also, the defense feels so weak and teammate contain doesn't work at all as they will sometimes just watch the guy run right past them. And going back to offense, this doesn't happen as often as the passing problem previously mentioned, but there are times where I give my teammate the ball and he watches it roll past with no regard to try and get it, and the passes are hardly screamers. I think I'm going to just save my money this year, I have hopes for next year as the gameplay at least feels more fluid and if they work out the kinks that are hindering performance, I think it would be great.

The only way you're going to get better is turning up the difficulty. I played exclusively on amateur until FIFA 12 and now play on legendary. Don't let your dreams be memes.
Set pieces and penalties were unnecessarily reconditioned, don't like it all. Other than that I feel like EA has improved Fifa in all areas more or less. AI is too possession focused, seems like they haven't done anything on that issue.
The AI has been much better for me. I don't want to rip my hair out whenever I play it
I can't believe I forgot to talk about the new set-pieces! Yes, very odd for them to change them completely but I suppose they thought it was overdue. Not a fan though, have now played about 12-15 games on the demo and still struggling a bit with penalties and completely with free-kicks, yet to even go close to scoring with one! Corner however I actually quite like how you can float them in now. Maybe that's just me but I really like floated corners to the far post!

Fouls were on! Referees do seem a bit lenient on the demo though, I had a horrific challenge in a Manchester derby I played with Sterling coming in late from behind, should've been a straight red and instead I received no card at all! Of course in the full release however, we'll notice a difference!
I hope so. This and the (seemingly OP) body shielding mechanic are my only two problems with the demo so far. Keep up the good work docks :].

Only complaint is that it's slightly too slow, the AI using that fucking strength thing is so annoying. Other than that, enjoying the game. The demo is always worse than the full game, so I have faith. I'm playing alright on legendary, I win some, I lose some. Always improving however
Good to hear, and even though I do feel the overall tempo has increased I do agree that sometimes it can be a little too slow anyway. Still, improvements!
I don't know if you can edit the game speed in the demo, but if you can I haven't messed with it so it might be on regular/medium rather than fast, which is what I usually play
I completely agree with your off the ball movement. It's so frustrating when strikers simply don't move and get in behind. I've been noticing the strikers dropping very deep, which is annoying. They'll fix all of this in the full game, I hope!
World class feels better than legendary
I was told this about FIFA 16 too, but I honestly don't feel that way. I notice the difference, but more in decision making than actual ability of the AI.

Update, i changed the "game play" to "slow" and it's a lot easier. Well, not easier, but more familiar. I switched the cameras to "fifa 16 default", and it now certainly feels like fifa 16 but upgraded

Laurie Martin played the demo for both...omg fifa passing is a joke. PES graphics are poor and license are gone for some of the teams from last year but the gameplay is amazing. FIFA is just broken again...
