YES!!!! I liked the first book and thought what a good stand alone it would have made. Especially after reading the second and hating it so much!! I have always just thought of it as a stand alone. Even the movies. Only watched the first one, because both book and movie has a nice rap up and didn't need a sequel.
Ok, but can we all agree that Tris’ brother SUCKS? He has no character, no motivation for his actions, he kept changing his mind without any reason etc.
the thing that really drives me nuts about the last book is the author could have made him somewhat ok when she gave him a chance to sacrifice himself.....but then that opportunity just goes to Tris because she's "special"
Ah yes the five core human archetypes: -Jock -Nerd -Legal studies major -Farmer -Anime hand holding This is like if the five people from the breakfast club made a society
+Mary J-In a way, it's a mutated progression of the love triangle that was perpetrated by Twilight. And I may be too "old" for this, but for the dystopian series, I just can never understand why these teenagers, who are repeatedly put in life and death situations, where often the entire world as they know has been upended and annihilated-the Apocalypse has come and gone and often much of their own families have been upended and killed in the process-and SOMEHOW, they still have time and hormones to pine after the two equally hot boys (or girls but mostly boys. . .) and is indecisive over which hot boy they should choose. .. Give me a break. . . And arguably, I don't think that slapped me in the face so blatantly as with The 5th Wave. Aliens have decimated billions of human lives. Cassie's mom was killed by an alien virus to where she watched her own mother slowly die. . .Cassie's father was murdered by a militant cult and that militant cult took her brother away to where she's not even sure if her brother is even still alive. Then the plot LITERALLY STOPS when she's injured and rescued by a charming, oh so super hot guy who tends to her and cares for her. A guy who turns out to be a host alien. . .shock. . .When she pines and trembles for this super hot guy she barely even knows while. . .she is supposed to find out whether her brother is even alive. (And it turns out he's being groomed and turned into a child solider for that cult. . .) Meanwhile that super hot guy she pined for in high school is still alive.. . and. . .naturally. . .she will meet up with him later and she will endlessly pine and moan over which super hot guy she should pick. . . The book had so much potential, an actual difficult survival story, but once the plot LITERALLY STOPS when Cassie is being tenderly treated and caressed by the hot (alien) guy. . .I just gave up. . .Same bullshit, same rancid vomit I don't want to deal with anymore. . .
Fera Flauna I agree, I had to read that for English and I got pretty far but as soon as she met the guy (I forget his name) I literally could not finish it and ended up having to listen to the audiobook in the background while I did other stuff
Emma Brook-If you care, his name is Tobias. Or Four if you'd rather. Per Divergent's tradition, every name has to be bafflingly convoluted. (Tris is short for Beatrice. . .okay. . .) He is supposed to be trained as a merciless killer, finehorned and sharpened by the cruelest teachers, or something stupid like that. . .until he falls madly, deeply in love with Tris. . . Same thing happens in The 5th Wave. Evan Walker, or the alien that took over Evan Walker's body, is a parasite that invaded his host's body when the boy was still a toddler. Basically, the aliens have "sleeper agents" where the parasites wake up from a dormant sleep, kill their host, and take over their host's body and have all their host's previous memories. Evan is 18 years old, still a teenager (body wise), so I don't have to mention how f'ing stupid that is that the aliens dropped the parasites into bodies to be woken up once the hosts reach teenage years. With a teenage body and the remains of a teenage mind, the parasites would still have to effectively go through puberty and raging hormones to where several of them. . .probably will turn coat once they discover another pretty young thing that lands their way. . .(Hey, worked for Benedict Arnold. . .He was an American spy who turned British. . .after a beautiful woman convinced him to. . .So yeah. . .one of the most infamous traitors. . .did so because he wanted to score. . .Typical. . .) Like Four/Tobias, Evan was born and groomed into a merciless, cold, remorseless killer. . .until he comes across a pretty teenage girl who he suddenly has the hots for. . .And somehow, despite being an alien and a born killer, he knows how to bathe, treat, and nurse a sick/injured teenager back to health. . .Give me a fucking break. . .
Prim's death felt so painful because she was literally Katniss's only reason to begin a revolution in the first place. She took Prim's place in the hunger games to save her, which ended up evolving into something enormous and kind of unexpected for her, but even then, despite her best efforts, Prim died and she couldn't do anything about it. For Katniss, Prim was the most important thing in the world, above the revolution and her own life. And still, Prim was the one thing that she really couldn't save.
i remember this girl i used to follow on instagram wrote like 40 chapters worth of a different ending that was actually satisfying but i don’t remember how it actually ended
m_eta_morpheus -I had an interesting conversation with one of my friends about the Divergent series, and when we talked about the ending... well... we didn’t know if we didn’t like the ending or if we didn’t like the whole third book. We concluded that the ending could have been amazing (in a tragic way) if the third book didn’t feel like a rehash of the first. I don’t think I could come up with a better third book concept, but I understand all of you when you need something better for an ending. Tris’ death just didn’t have the right kind of impact for what the third book was about and who the villains were (and how they were developed). Oi, I think I could ramble all day about these things. Lol.
I'm okay with main characters dying, but it has to make sense for the story, Tris died because the author tried to be edgy and different from THG, that's it.
Youdumbhoe I had to look this up when i had finished the book. The author had decided to kill tris because she had toyed with death in each book. When she finally wanted to live but still risked her life, it wouldnt have made sense to keep her alive.
Sunday shoes - Yup. You've heard it here. The entire motivation for your trilogy's ending: "Um, in this one book, the um- the protagonist? Yeah, they live, and I don't want to be a copy cat, so my character? Yeah, my- my character has to die." Like, if simply having your protagonist live in the end is enough to make your series too similar to another, I think you're kinda there already... Literally endless things a living person could do, and none of them would set your story apart from The Hunger Games? You need to do a lot more editing to fix your problem, then... Diverging, if you will.
That seems to be a trend in recent years, to decide the direction/ending of a story not based on what comes naturally to this specific plot, but only based on how to subvert reader's expectations/be different from other works, even if it doesn't work at all for that specific story.
I also remember vividly a comparison with Harry Potter, along of the lines of sacrifice and everything???? And basically how Tris had to die lmao where Harry didn't truly die and maybe it would have made more sense/been more tragic if he did???? And, already hating Allegiant, I went like bye,,,,, A main character doesn't have to die for an ending to be more powerful or make sense
i read the entire series, even four, and i just feel divergent just should’ve been the first book and the first book only, the fighting and the leaving the city kind of ruined it. she lost all storyline and it was just them destroying an evil government. the only interesting parts of the books were really the training in factions and how they worked, it also started to remind me of the maze runner, two completely different series & those storylines should not clash. edited: i reread the series and i appreciate divergent and insurgent more now. allegiant ruined it.
I feel like the second they showed us a world outside of the factions it went downhill. And then they had that scene in a lot of YA where the mom comes back in ghost form just to tell you that all the characters who got brutally murdered are happy in heaven.
bruh that was so fucking ass he sounded like some robot and they only showed the crappy scenes (i think they had the kissing scene though but im pretty sure that sucked too)
Hunger games fans: we dont talk about what happened to prim. Pervy jackson fans: we dont talk about the film adaptaions. Divergent fans: we dont talk about anything but the first book. Edit: So, i realised i spelt Percy as Pervy, butttttttt, im not gonna change it coz its funny tbh
I remember preordering Allegiant on my e-reader so I could start reading it as soon as I woke up on the day it was released (I was so excited). The first thing I saw was "Chapter 1: Tris" and my first thought was "oh, they're doing alternating viewpoints in this book, that's weird. the only reason they'd change it up and do alternating first person viewpoints is if Tris dies." And then my second thought was "no, they wouldn't do that, that would be stupid." ........ Imagine my reaction upon finishing the book. I was right. It was stupid.
yeah, honestly I hated it. Not that she died, but that it felt like a pointless death. There was no build up or anything. It didn't make sense to the plot, unlike for example the deaths in harry potter or the hunger games. It felt like terrible 'surprise writing' and just ruined it for me. Personally I enjoy rereading and watching the first movie/book for comfort (it's nostalgic for me, kinda the same with the first twilight movie and all the books) but I can't go further than that.
hunger games and divergent inspired my 13-14 year old self to write my own dystopic trilogy. it was a combination of divergent and 1984. It was very cringy, but good times were had
I’m currently 14 and writing a dystopian x sci-fi story, but I’ve researched into writing and the genre’s tropes to make sure it’s at least decent. Probably has a better ending than Allegiant though.
One of my favorite things about the movie was that Tris was super tall and model-like but in the book she’s supposed to look like a child because she’s so short
@@ihavelemonade5640 I guess that’s fair, the dynamic probably shouldn’t have ever been written that way in the first place and they could’ve just made them both teens and then it would’ve just been way better
It was milked to death i think. There was another book called Four, told from Four’s perspective. There was stuff we hadn’t seen in the other books, but ultimately it was an excuse for Veronica Roth to publish more Divergent.
DaydreamingNerd 2106 I read it and I hated it so much. Not going into it, but being a survivor of child abuse watching her completely fuck it up with Four pissed me off. She clearly doesn’t know what she’s talking about, especially with her attempts at what I think was supposed to be PTSD. Basically watching her get everything wrong about everything that I personally have experience with kind of sucked. //end unsolicited four rant im sorry
sol phoyu sorry I disagree. As someone who was abused, I did relate to Tobias’s pain from Marcus. Remember, PTSD and mental disorders are different for everyone.
DaydreamingNerd 2106 To be fair, I read the Four book and I thoroughly enjoyed it; it didn’t deviate from the heart and soul of the original books as dramatically as Allegiant did. However, I do see what you’re saying and agree. The whole thing was drawn out painfully towards the end.
I’m not 100% sure, but didn’t she begin writing from four’s perspective and didn’t like it, so she changed to tris? So she didn’t write something new for the four book Correct me if I’m wrong btw
I read the entire Divergent series. After than a few scenes from the first book, everything was a blur. The next two books were: girl gets over wall, girl finds another evil government, girl wipes everyone memories, girl dies. Boy friend cries. I’m serious, that’s all.
I never read the last book. I barely remember the second one but I do remember the parts towards end when they climb the walls and basically four is a ‘broken’ person and just an anomaly compared to tris DNA and I just felt that the story plot was slowly falling so I never bothered reading the last book 😅😅😂
phases of the divergent movies: 1. fall in love with the first movie because of the level of production and how they followed the book plot very closely 2. have high hopes for the second movie because the first one was so good 3. leave the theater disappointed 4. hate watch allegiant part 1 5. leave the theater angry 6. watch all of the hunger games movies again
Omg frrrrr after I read we can be mended by Veronica Roth I rewatched all the hunger games to make myself feel better I hate Christina she really did tris dirty 🤬 I’m not a fan of the divergent series any more for sure
honestly the first movie was good and the second was 50/50 and the last was just plain bad i was just spit by facts and my mind was like dont process this its not worth it.
I was so hyped to read the final book but when I finished it I was extremely disappointed. In fact, I was so disappointed I wrote an entire essay to my English teacher about how much it sucked and she loved it lol.
IKR! I was so hyped hen reading the books that I even got my friend to start reading it. I was reading the last book and questioning is this going to be to identical to the hunger games and worse?( I love the hunger games don’t get me wrong) Then she died and I didn’t cry too much cause I was in class and I had a feeling she would live by some miracle BUT NO. The story line of the last book was kinda bad but it wood be a good book. But Tris died and that made the book trash to me. Like he said so many teens could relate to her and I related to her since my mind was like hers then she died and what does that tell teens? That you can do all these heroic things and just die? Idk sorry it’s long lol. Edit: I just realized how many spelling mistakes I have lol.
Anyone remember the 5th wave? Like, it came out on the VERY tail end of the dystopian YA trend, got a movie deal before it was even published, the first movie flopped and nothing really substantial even came of it.
@@FatimaZahra-lu8bf I liked that book series as well. Not a top fav but it was pretty well enough put together if you like the darker slant on teen dystopian. Compared to Divergent the ending felt much more earned. Reading it you could tell very quickly it was not going to work well as a movie series though. Grim hopelessness is a really tough sell to the summer popcorn nomming masses.
Also: WHY THE HELL DOES EVELYN (Tobias’ mom) LOOK SO YOUNG? Where’s the black hair with grey streaks? Intense eyes and tough aura? Hooked nose? Seriously!
Honestly, (and I'm not specifically talking about Evelyn here; I don't think I ever watched far enough to see her), the last thing I care about is whether the characters physically look like their roles, and I don't understand why people fixate on it so much. There are many, many things that are vastly more important than that when casting actors - especially because the characters look different to every reader. No matter who they cast, SOMEONE will complain that the character doesn't look how they imagined them. Because everyone's imagination is slightly different. Everyone interprets "hooked nose" and "tough aura" differently. They will never make everyone happy. It is not good to try TOO hard to make the actor look identical to the character as described in the books. Availability, acting skill, and chemistry with the other actors are ALL more important. I'm happy with the character looking wrong (as long as appearance is not desperately important to the plot) if those things are on point.
Loll same I think I repressed reading the 2nd and 3rd ones. I completely forgot about them them but then he mentioned some details and talked about her dying and I'm like oh shit right I've actually read them
I’m dead when i was in early high school my mom bought me the first book because one of our family friends liked it and she literally told me “she said it’s kind of like the hunger games” 🤣 it’s literally it’s only selling point
More like: "Hey kids, you should forgive people, even if they dipped and left you with an abusive father or bertrayed you and literally walked you to your own execution. You should totally die for them too."
Which is probably the truth if you think about it. Have you noticed in most stories, the hero has some factor of luck working for them. Some accident that helped them in a dire situation or a by chance encounter that let them learn some important plot element. Irl I would imagine most of us in that situation would die horribly having no idea what hit us. Like TSOIAF, most people don't get happy endings. Sometime bravery isn't enough, I guess you should choose intelligence over bravery if u wanna survive
Dunno one of my personal opinion that it went trash was because Tobias decided to kiss his dead girlfriend's best friend, because he now only realized he was attracted to Christina because he was so absorbed with tris. I mean dude that's messed up
I vaguely even remember his relationship with tris but I remember them fighting about each other’s safety? He was rather possessive because all he wanted was her to stay alive because he was supposedly “in love with her” but after everything you just mentioned it seems their whole relationship was built off of nothing.
@@icantthinkofadecentnamemyd2869 in the books they were bestfriends in the end, I don't remember reading anything about them getting together so idk ab that
I feel like Veronica Roth heard everyone saying she was copying The Hunger Games, so she killed Tris to try and deviate from that as much as possible. Maybe she should have tried....actually being original. What a concept
Actually, I think she wanted to kill Tris from the very beginning because she thought that killing a main character was cool. I remember she saying something about how Harry Potter could have been better if Harry die in the end. So she planned to kill her from the beginning, not for the plot, not because it meant something but because she thought it was so 'original' to do that. So yeah you are kinda of right
it was like roth had this epic ao3 plot and then realized that she couldnt come up any reasoning for why the plot existed and made up some experiment war bullshit. then to top it off (cause she knew her plot sucked) she decided to kill of the main character for no reason?? bruh tris couldve died SO MANY WAYS and she dies from a gunshot from some irrelevant random guy
I respect Veronica's hustle. Wasn't she in college when she wrote that? What a good use of SAT words. Imagine not needing to find a job while doing your final exams!

I DRESSED UP to go to the first showing of Divergent by MYSELF on a SCHOOL NIGHT (but then I never even saw the next movies). Plus, I had a Divergent poster on my wall for an embarrassingly long time, so this video speaks to my soul
@@taskmaster668 LMAOOOOO it's just facts, spy kids 1 and 2 are classics, and while the effects don't hold up they don't take away from the movie's quality
Also the ending of Allegiant was apparent from the beginning. Why else would she suddenly introduce a new POV? And it wasn’t even done well - I kept having to flip back to the beginning of the chapter to see whose perspective I was reading.
omg I thought I was the only who had this problem, I honestly wanted to tell Four to wear a tampon and eat cake because he was acting the same way I do when I'm on my period
Right?? It was so weird to read their alternating perspectives. Giving each character a unique voice in a first person setting is extremely difficult, but I always appreciate the effort. Like Red Queen did a similar thing and didn’t quite stick the landing, but I was able to follow along without much trouble. Allegiant was just baaaaad.
I was like 14ish when Allegiant came out, but I could FEEL the anxiety in that book. Poor Veronica Roth was terrified. The ending had been planned for a while, and she was scared of the reaction it would get, so she kept trying to tip toe around it. But that just made it worse. Honestly, I think the idea of killing of the main character was super creative and awesome, but she didn't own it. She didn't write it well, because the pressure was too much for her. It sucks to see a series be killed by popularity literally. I wish we could see a version where she didn't feel so much pressure.
no exactly- the fact she did it to “be different” is so so so sad she wasted a whole series by killing tris - also it didn’t even make sense - david (lmao) loved her mother??? correct me if i’m wrong so why tf would he kill her daughter??? also i’m pretty sure caleb was gonna go get the serums (again correct me if i’m wrong i haven’t read them in years) but tris decided to sacrifice herself? like i understand they’re siblings but he literally worked against her previously and betrayed her trust so many times and he didn’t really have a future to look forward to whereas tris had four and christina etc and all her friends. 💔💔
chrissie : Yes, David was in love with her mother, but he believed in sacrifices for (what he believed to be) the greater good. Tris went in instead of Caleb because she was selfless like that and Caleb was only going to do it so Tris would forgive him.
@@chrissie1303 she didn't do it solely to be different, and while im not discrediting your theory, i encourage you to watch an interview where roth explains the reasoning behind tris' death - it truly does make sense. but in brief summary: (1) tris had toyed with death so many times it was basically inevitable because how lucky can one get really, (2) tris spent the entirety of the 2nd and much of the 3rd book learning and making mistakes about sacrifice, so it made sense for her to fufill this learning journey with a true sacrifice, leaving us with a sense of finality, (3) tris was almost too strong/tenacious a character to simply have a 'basic' happy ending, her ending needed to be as emotional and dramatic as her entire life had been (your theory may be true with this admittedly weaker point, but that doesn't mean the first two points don't make sense)
Don’t worry, I wrote AWFUL Dramione fanfics and then submitted them for a contest at school with the names changed to basic white names. I think I 1-upped you.
my favorite thing about divergent was the lack of a love triangle and then at the end of allegiant (book), four ended up with tris’ best friend for no reason. why??? why
Christina was my favorite character because she was really cool for some reason. Why did she have to end up with four of all people? Boring, bland four? Why?
To quote a friend "the divergent series was fun to read but I could never read it again." And I agree. I think the first book was good but it went downhill and I don't wanna touch it now lol
The contrast between the first book and the second book is so jarring. I remember as a 12 year old being GLUED to the pages of Divergent and reading it in days and then I literally could not get through Insurgent
The one genuinely incredible thing about that movie is that the stuntwoman had to jump from that building with no safety lines and she did and she is alright. Love her. What a legend. IconiqueTM
The third one is called Convergent (well, the Portuguese word for that Convergnte) in Brazil, because there is no translation for Allegiant that keeps the rhyming of "ent/ant" in the end...
I found the first book to be great; I remember throwing the book on the floor after a character had died, because I just couldn’t cope, and I just left it there for a few days. *That* kind of emotional reaction is really rare for me, but the next few books just got worse and worse.
mathilde mykløy Yeah, I read the first one and I adored it and read it in about a week, but because I didn’t have the second one and by the time I could afford it, I was over the whole dystopian thing.
The last one was so bad. . . I havent even see the movie because I am not putting myself through that torture again. Tbh I always find the last book of a series to be the worst.
I remeber loving the first book, but the second book was just so slow and bad for me that I never read the last one, and thank god for that. The whole series could just as easily been the first book, as a stand alone it would have been better. Even the first movie was quite good, it was very close to the book, but they didn't have to make more.
I typically don't get the reaction either, but one time I did get so angry with a book that I threw it across the room (because I wanted to know what happened with a certain character and then it cuts to the POV of a character that I HATE for THREE CHAPTERS before I finally got the resolution to that, and it wasn't a good resolution either, she died).
Literally same I remember thinking about these movies and I was like what ever happened to the third one and looked it up. I was so confused when I saw it had been made cause I had heard nothing about it
Wait the third book was made into two movies? I never knew! I was just so disappointed after seeing allegiant I just didn’t care any more. Insurgent was nothing like the book, but somehow allegiant was even less.
I genuinely liked the divergent series books, I loved the narrative and story, and even though I was didn't want Tris to die, I understood it. I also loved the first divergent movie, it really brought the world to life. But Insurgent and Allegiant were the worst, I hated how far away they strayed from the books, allegiant especially. I wish the directors wouldn't be such cashgrabbers but just make a story to that fits within the story of the book.
I can understand that having the hero actually die for a good cause, can help people learn that even heroes aren't invincible, that even they, the heroes, can still make a huge impact. Not all heroes win, sometimes, the heroes, even in the face of death be heroes because they did the right thing even in death.
@@livmashupmansen191 yesss!! Imo one of the only good parts of allegiant was the fact that tris had to die for them to win. It was such bittersweet ending.
Also can we acknowledge that the book had a low key eugenicist plot? It's been a while since I've read it, and it was only once, but I remember being astonished by the comparison, and the assertion that genes are responsible for traits... like that's eugenicist ideology, hun.
The only reason to cast a mid 20s to early 30s actor to play 17 to 19 year old is if they're like Thomas Brody Sangster (not sure if I spelt that right) bc he physically ages slowly.😂😂
Brooke Reads yeah. Thomas looks 17 (for the maze runner, only series I’ve seen him in) and works well. Its amazing how young he looks and wouldn’t fit in a role where his characters age is his own.
i was a huge fan of the hunger games, divergent and the legend series when i was 13 but now i realize that the only series that makes sense and stays with you are the hunger games, cause the movies are good (actors and visuals are cool and also the soundtrack is nice and not some slow pop i mean, i sometimes legit just lay in y bed and listen to the atmospheric slow background music of the hunger games) , the characters are made to be understood by all audiences and the overall series is made to be understood and taught about years later, not just as a quick cash grab profiting off teens just wanting to see other teens being all strong and cool rebels
I didn’t watch the insurgent movie but from what I remember from the book tris did cut her hair when they where staying with the hippie faction, that could have been a really nice emotional moment in the movie
I think they did go to Amity for a hot minute, but it was honestly so meh. The leader (?) Just went "no you can't fight each other", but when the army (?) Shows up she goes "No we'll hide you don't worry about it fam". I can't remember whether it made sense or not but it seemed like she was sacrificing her own people to save the 3 main characters.
I kind of just erased the entire insurgent movie from my memory, so when he was playing the clips, I was like "Was that in the movie? Is that really how the CGI was??? What the f-"
lmao veronica spoke at my school and literally just told us how much the media criticized her whenever someone asked a question 🌚 v awkward to say the least
The way Theo and Naomi looks like siblings i- like even if you’re trying to pass off four as 21..(which is pretty unbelievable because Theo James looks like he’s 35) his mom would still be older..
@@aerinandout Loved it when Teresa died, and literally the only reason I continued with Divergent is because everyone kept talking about how Tris died. Turns out, she deserved worse.
@Isobel Salvatore Same! When I read the part where Tris died I literally went to the bathroom and starting sobbing my eyes out. Then for months afterward I went on Wattpad and read alternate endings, trying to fill the void in my heart lol
I thought they did but it might've just been mentioned and they just moved on. It would have been really nice to see some sort of cinematic parallel between the haircut in the first movie appear in the second one, but alas. The director really didn't put much thought into the second film at all and it shows :(
Wait, I swear like one of the first scenes in Insurgent was her like cutting her wig off to have her short hair? I mean, then again I think they just did a throwaway line of "I needed a change" and then they move on, so it didn't really do much for the story itself.
I think they did. It's been a while since i read those book and saw those movies but I'm pretty sure in both of them the hair cutting scene was there. 😅
Zalia Salley I read the whole book and I highly regret it. Literal filth and Insurgent already left a bitter taste in my mouth after going through that wreck.
My woke hot take is that Divergent should have been a standalone novel and not a trilogy
YES!!!! I liked the first book and thought what a good stand alone it would have made. Especially after reading the second and hating it so much!!
I have always just thought of it as a stand alone. Even the movies. Only watched the first one, because both book and movie has a nice rap up and didn't need a sequel.

With a teenage body and the remains of a teenage mind, the parasites would still have to effectively go through puberty and raging hormones to where several of them. . .probably will turn coat once they discover another pretty young thing that lands their way. . .(Hey, worked for Benedict Arnold. . .He was an American spy who turned British. . .after a beautiful woman convinced him to. . .So yeah. . .one of the most infamous traitors. . .did so because he wanted to score. . .Typical. . .)
Like Four/Tobias, Evan was born and groomed into a merciless, cold, remorseless killer. . .until he comes across a pretty teenage girl who he suddenly has the hots for. . .And somehow, despite being an alien and a born killer, he knows how to bathe, treat, and nurse a sick/injured teenager back to health. . .Give me a fucking break. .
For me it felt so unnecessary

We concluded that the ending could have been amazing (in a tragic way) if the third book didn’t feel like a rehash of the first.
I don’t think I could come up with a better third book concept, but I understand all of you when you need something better for an ending. Tris’ death just didn’t have the right kind of impact for what the third book was about and who the villains were (and how they were developed).

I'm okay with main characters dying, but it has to make sense for the story, Tris died because the author tried to be edgy and different from THG, that's it.

the author said in an interview that she let Tris die because she wanted the ending to be different from The Hunger Games.. that really blew it for me
Sunday shoes - Yup. You've heard it here. The entire motivation for your trilogy's ending:
"Um, in this one book, the um- the protagonist? Yeah, they live, and I don't want to be a copy cat, so my character? Yeah, my- my character has to die."
Like, if simply having your protagonist live in the end is enough to make your series too similar to another, I think you're kinda there already... Literally endless things a living person could do, and none of them would set your story apart from The Hunger Games? You need to do a lot more editing to fix your problem, then... Diverging, if you will.
God is it true ? I'm puzzled. It's not supposed to be your only motivation when killing a character ffs
Oh shit
i read the entire series, even four, and i just feel divergent just should’ve been the first book and the first book only, the fighting and the leaving the city kind of ruined it. she lost all storyline and it was just them destroying an evil government. the only interesting parts of the books were really the training in factions and how they worked, it also started to remind me of the maze runner, two completely different series & those storylines should not clash.
edited: i reread the series and i appreciate divergent and insurgent more now. allegiant ruined it.
I agree it should’ve been a stand alone novel. It would’ve been remembered much better that way.

I feel like the second they showed us a world outside of the factions it went downhill. And then they had that scene in a lot of YA where the mom comes back in ghost form just to tell you that all the characters who got brutally murdered are happy in heaven.

I remember preordering Allegiant on my e-reader so I could start reading it as soon as I woke up on the day it was released (I was so excited). The first thing I saw was "Chapter 1: Tris" and my first thought was "oh, they're doing alternating viewpoints in this book, that's weird. the only reason they'd change it up and do alternating first person viewpoints is if Tris dies." And then my second thought was "no, they wouldn't do that, that would be stupid."
........ Imagine my reaction upon finishing the book.

yeah, honestly I hated it. Not that she died, but that it felt like a pointless death. There was no build up or anything.

So she didn’t write something new for the four book

Also: WHY THE HELL DOES EVELYN (Tobias’ mom) LOOK SO YOUNG? Where’s the black hair with grey streaks? Intense eyes and tough aura? Hooked nose? Seriously!
She is 51 actress but aged to well for this role
The way I remember reading this description omg

The Divergent Series moral lesson:
"If you try to be brave and stand up for yourself you're just gonna die."
More like:
"Hey kids, you should forgive people, even if they dipped and left you with an abusive father or bertrayed you and literally walked you to your own execution.
When Tris died I literally cried for 2 freaking days, I was so upset 😂 and I had the biggest crush on Tobias. Glad am not 12 anymore
yuktika ngl I cried so hard that my sister was legitimately worried for me
i made the mistake of reading the last book at work and i cried for like hours and then fired
I think everyone had a crush on Tobias tbh 😂
I was cursing so much. i went ranting to my mum and i was crying. A freaking man in a wheelchair killed her!

Divergent Movies Be Like:
Divergent: terrible soundtrack
Insurgent: video game
Allegiant: we don’t talk about Allegiant
Let's be honest Allegiant had a really good soundtrack and that is probably the only good thing about the movie
Rickity Rock I bought the divergent soundtrack 😭 and I loved it
Actually the soundtrack was My favorite part xd

ΔGENT 0017 is it me or really bad movies always have good soundtracks? Like twilight’s soundtrack is kinda good
when you started talking about your divergent shirt I WAS DONE HAHAHAHAH
The Divergent series has Wattpad written all over it 💀 I’m surprised it didn’t didn’t debut there
wattpad wasnt a thing back then
Ah sorry I accidentally disliked your comment 🤪

Mxther Mae oh damn why you disliking on me out here 😔
There is better books in wattpad, if you dig in deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper and go a little more deeper u can find some good gems.
Or of a better author.
no exactly- the fact she did it to “be different” is so so so sad
she wasted a whole series by killing tris - also it didn’t even make sense - david (lmao) loved her mother??? correct me if i’m wrong so why tf would he kill her daughter??? also i’m pretty sure caleb was gonna go get the serums (again correct me if i’m wrong i haven’t read them in years) but tris decided to sacrifice herself? like i understand they’re siblings but he literally worked against her previously and betrayed her trust so many times and he didn’t really have a future to look forward to whereas tris had four and christina etc and all her friends.
💔💔
chrissie : Yes, David was in love with her mother, but he believed in sacrifices for (what he believed to be) the greater good.
I hate that I wrote fanfiction for this book when I was like thirteen.
I really hate it.
Your fanfic was probably better tbh
Oh oh share the link
I probably read it at some point
Don’t worry, I wrote AWFUL Dramione fanfics and then submitted them for a contest at school with the names changed to basic white names. I think I 1-upped you.
That fanfic writer life changes you fam
my favorite thing about divergent was the lack of a love triangle and then at the end of allegiant (book), four ended up with tris’ best friend for no reason. why??? why
Christina was my favorite character because she was really cool for some reason. Why did she have to end up with four of all people? Boring, bland four? Why?
Four was there just to be a love interest nothing more. He was as bland as boxed pancakes with no syrup.
@@londonfleurina2388 this analogy sent me. I’m like Tris now.

The ONLY good thing to come out of Divergent was Ellie Goulding's Beating Heart - that song still slaps
Agreed
the divergent soundtrack slaps
I'm a divergent soundtrack Stan tame impala and Kendrick lamar was something I never knew I needed
Hanging On, Find You, and Dead in the Water are pretty good too imo
Its like Twilight with Thousand Years. Bad Movie but soundtrack absolutely slaps.
@@jeepersjava (Very late reply lol) Me tooooo I read them for the first time last year and I was just so bored with insurgent
The one genuinely incredible thing about that movie is that the stuntwoman had to jump from that building with no safety lines and she did and she is alright. Love her. What a legend. IconiqueTM
The hunger games thing in the background while he mutters some shade just cracks me up every time
wait.. what?
😭
Watching this video with my Insurgent book staring at me from my bookshelf feels like a bad acid trip
Paige Philipps currently looking back at my copy feeling ashamed that i read it four times in middle school
They missed the opportunity to call the three books Divergent, Convergent, and Transform.
The third one is called Convergent (well, the Portuguese word for that Convergnte) in Brazil, because there is no translation for Allegiant that keeps the rhyming of "ent/ant" in the end...
Wow!!!
tfw tectonic plate boundaries interact in a ya novel
Ok that's clever
I typically don't get the reaction either, but one time I did get so angry with a book that I threw it across the room (because I wanted to know what happened with a certain character and then it cuts to the POV of a character that I HATE for THREE CHAPTERS before I finally got the resolution to that, and it wasn't a good resolution either, she died).
i really liked the first book too but i couldn't even finish the second one, it's just gotten so much worse lol
its 2019 and you rly sayin "spoiler btw" about the hunger games we-
Only read the first book
I know it's a crime kill me
I_I Diamond all the books are amazing ngl
I’ve never read the Hunger Games ahahah
My brother was in the room we just finished mockingjay pt 1 and he heard that. I had to convince him katniss died
Sophia Adames oh no
I didnt even know the third book had been made into movies. I thought they just failed at 2 and stopped.
Danielle Doyle same! Was it even in theatres?
Literally same I remember thinking about these movies and I was like what ever happened to the third one and looked it up. I was so confused when I saw it had been made cause I had heard nothing about it
Wait the third book was made into two movies? I never knew! I was just so disappointed after seeing allegiant I just didn’t care any more. Insurgent was nothing like the book, but somehow allegiant was even less.
the third movie was unbearable
They only made the 1st film of the third book!!
The singular comment that isn’t trashing Divergent 😭😭
You know I always expected Veronica to explore the training in the other factions, but she didn't...

That “spoiled child” killed me every time
The worst part was that Christina ended up with Four 🙄
HUH?! Legit don't remember that yikes
I'm sorry WHAT WHEN
That’s a THING??
I hate Four. (Nothing against Theo James, i just hate his character.)
wHaT?
i was a huge fan of the hunger games, divergent and the legend series when i was 13 but now i realize that the only series that makes sense and stays with you are the hunger games, cause the movies are good (actors and visuals are cool and also the soundtrack is nice and not some slow pop i mean, i sometimes legit just lay in y bed and listen to the atmospheric slow background music of the hunger games) , the characters are made to be understood by all audiences and the overall series is made to be understood and taught about years later, not just as a quick cash grab profiting off teens just wanting to see other teens being all strong and cool rebels
She cut her hair and that’s where it when to hell
she does it in the novel, she does it in the movie and then the franchise fell apart lol so ur right
Informative comments here. Thanks guys.
Basically like Sampson lol
I didn’t watch the insurgent movie but from what I remember from the book tris did cut her hair when they where staying with the hippie faction, that could have been a really nice emotional moment in the movie
I think they did go to Amity for a hot minute, but it was honestly so meh. The leader (?) Just went "no you can't fight each other", but when the army (?) Shows up she goes "No we'll hide you don't worry about it fam". I can't remember whether it made sense or not but it seemed like she was sacrificing her own people to save the 3 main characters.
Well she didn't give herself an ugly ass short haircut like in the movie, she just cuts her hair to like her shoulders.
That happens in the film too
I kind of just erased the entire insurgent movie from my memory, so when he was playing the clips, I was like "Was that in the movie? Is that really how the CGI was??? What the f-"
I watched insurgent at the theaters and as soon as I walked out, I just forgot about it. Now, I remembered I wasted money for that ugh
idk why they completely changed the plot as well
you know you've written a book when an entire fandom of used to be hardcore fans don't even remember the plot of the books
A what book?
Easily one of the books of all time
Forreal lmao. I can't remember the plot of Divergent while I still get sad at Rue's death in Hunger Games.
Imagine writing a book
lmao veronica spoke at my school and literally just told us how much the media criticized her whenever someone asked a question 🌚
v awkward to say the least
What, was someone like, "what's tris's favorite color?" And veronica answers were like, "media hates me and i feel so attacked!!" ?
waiiiit. she spoke at mine too. are you from nola? lol
You didn't mention the disaster that was "Four" a book of backstory, alternate povs, and extra scenes.
This book made me realise I didn't like Four either
I can’t even bring myself to read it
I think that book was still okay, like it wasn't bad but 'we can be mended' completely annihilated the entire series.
I thought it was ok we got a little insight into his mindset and it made him more human
Adiba Arefin yeah it pissed me off that he ended up with Christina! Like might as well throw the whole story in the trash now
Why do the affects look like Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Sharkboy and Lavagirl is a cinematic masterpiece. Don't compare it to Divergent.

Stay in school, kid.
The way Theo and Naomi looks like siblings i- like even if you’re trying to pass off four as 21..(which is pretty unbelievable because Theo James looks like he’s 35) his mom would still be older..
I remember reading Allegiant when I was like 15 and when Tris died I felt so betrayed by Veronica Roth
@@aerinandout THANK YOU!
@@aerinandout Loved it when Teresa died, and literally the only reason I continued with Divergent is because everyone kept talking about how Tris died. Turns out, she deserved worse.
i read Allegiant when i was 12 i think, and i threw the book against my door and cried
@Isobel Salvatore Same! When I read the part where Tris died I literally went to the bathroom and starting sobbing my eyes out. Then for months afterward I went on Wattpad and read alternate endings, trying to fill the void in my heart lol
Five O’Clock that’s how I felt about the end of the his dark materials trilogy, I was so mad
Tris cut her hair in insurgent tho, but to be fair, they could've just shown her cutting off her hair (wig)
I think it has to do with the actress also playing Hazel Grace in The fault in our Stars at the same time .
I thought they did but it might've just been mentioned and they just moved on. It would have been really nice to see some sort of cinematic parallel between the haircut in the first movie appear in the second one, but alas. The director really didn't put much thought into the second film at all and it shows :(
Yes that scene in the book was pretty good
Wait, I swear like one of the first scenes in Insurgent was her like cutting her wig off to have her short hair? I mean, then again I think they just did a throwaway line of "I needed a change" and then they move on, so it didn't really do much for the story itself.
I think they did. It's been a while since i read those book and saw those movies but I'm pretty sure in both of them the hair cutting scene was there. 😅
I personally think that the soundtrack almost saved the first movie. There's some bops there.
Betty Cat Yes!!!!
I agree. However gymnastics clubs like to use Divergent soundtrack a lil bit too much, kind of ruined it for me
I hated four, he was like the insert male love interest and was so plain
he was just nice to look at. nothing more nothing less
I hated him so much it's not funny. I fucking hated the guy, and I don't even remember why.
@Rida KOTWAL in my opinion i couldn't even tell if we were reading Tris or Four's pov. It all got blurred toward the middle, then Tris died. The end.
