- Billy Porter, who’s just earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, is joined by Pose co-creator Ryan Murphy for a conversation about their work on the groundbreaking series (which VICE has called “The most important show on TV right now”).
Now in its second season, Pose tells the story of the predominantly LGBTQ ballroom community in New York City in the late ’80s and ’90s, focusing on their fights for equality, against HIV/AIDS and for the night’s fiercest looks. Join them for an intimate, revelatory and celebratory discussion about how the series came to be, and why it’s shaping into a classic tale for our times.

Billy Porter, as a person not an actor, doesn't "speak", but he "evangelizes". I don't mean that unironically. There are very, very few people who have that gift.

I get what you mean and I totally agree - you hang on to every word he says - he could read his grocery list and the way he says it would make you feel like you’ve been given a life lesson! I’m so impressed by this show and everyone involved in it ... it makes you feel like you can do anything ! I’m just a regular boring white girl ... truly ... but when I hear these two talking I feel like I could be anything I want ! And that nothing is out of reach if you don’t give up - that sounds so corny - but I really feel that

I’m obsessed with this show I’ve watched every interview with every character that I can find - I love hearing these actors stories- and Ryan Murphy is such an artist ! And he seems so open and fair .. like he really shares what he’s creating with the people he’s using to create it - LIKE REAL ART THAT EVERYONE HIRED GETS TO HAVE A PIECE OF ! That’s just so cool ... this interview makes me wanna watch everything he’s ever had a hand in. One day I’d love to meet him! But I’d freeze and forget what questions I wanna ask him lol
The lesson upon lessons in this hour was a masterclass. Billy has always been the icon that the world now sees him as.
Hollywood, get on your knees and thank this team for existing. Billy deserves a major movie role. Please don't insult him with a stereotypical character. He is up to the task and he is an artist. His shoulders are strong enough.

I almost missed out on watching Pose coz I generally dont enjoy over the top shows like RuPauls drag race and I thought it would be that so I was impressed by how good the stories are outside and inside the ballrooms. SUch great acting Billy and production too.

I'm an older woman who grew up in a very judgmental environment. I loved to sing, dance and perform. My mother and sisters made me feel like a freak. It took me years to "be" who I spoke (to paraphrase Mr. Porter.) God bless this man. May he continue to thrive and succeed.

I thank Ryan Murphy so much for introducing me to Billy Porter in American Horror Story. I was not familiar with him or any of his work prior to seeing him on AHS...and I feel so cheated out of everything I've missed. Just his presence exudes everything wonderfulness.

He said through all the low times his voice was the thing that carried him, helped him hover above....I am glad he said that because I think his voice is amazing!!!! I love his acting and his persona and all the other things, but I am a BIG fan of his voice. Bravo!!!
Love Billy Porter but racism made him wait so long. Yes he’s a gay man but he could played a straight man if they gave him the role. So it comes down to racism. Now, everyone on Pose will get a quicker shot due the show’s great exposure. Thank you Billy and if it was my world, you would have been the Denzel Washington , or James Baldwin , or Eddie Murphy.
Take it in slowly and just know greatness had to sit for awhile until it was ready to come out. Thanks to the movie Paris is Burning and how they pulled a lot of material from the documentary.
Also, thank Billy for being so well rounded with history. He quoted some prominent black intellectuals in this interview. So glad he studied the past to know how to present the future.
Billy is still young and he’s not holding back. The world is so far behind him. He’s very progressive and hopefully the world can catch -up with his talent. Thanks to all the writers and actors on Pose. The person doing the music must get an award. The music is a character in itself. It really brings out the joy and sadness for that time period.

The first part speaks profoundly to the work I am wanting to do as a therapist post my studies. Black, gay and feminine men cannot keep seeing themselves in that manner. We are broken constantly and it becomes a lot. The Cishets have not been doing sufficient work to our aid and so we have to do it for ourselves. I am inspired :)

I had bought "The Artist's Way" work book as well. Wish they would've touched on the documentary "Paris Is Burning". The show reminds me SO much of it!. They should've thrown the term "Walk of Shame" in there as well for a little neighborhood authenticity. Just started watching it though, so maybe I hear it in one of the episodes.
The acting skills are amazing, I am so sorry it took so long for America to pay attention. This show will be the beginning of change for us all. Everybody is part of the human race lets not forget that.

Billy you are affectionately funny with a very beautiful voice. You made me laugh when you went on that British man show and made a grand entrance, that infuriated him then he asked you to leave because you had used up your time by wasting time with your grand entrance. You asked him if he meant that you should leave, and he said yes. You politely got up and left. While he was apologizing to his lady guest, you came back with another grand entrance singing, " I will survive" boy you knocked my socks off with laughter. That served him right with his snobbish British attitude!!!
