The third phase of Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant was opened for construction, while the second phase was officially inaugurated under the presidency of HE Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance on June 25, 2024.
On that occasion, HE Aun Porn Moniroth said, “The commissioning of the second phase of the water treatment plant now is the complete closure of the water shortage problem of the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority. "It has happened in the past in some areas of Phnom Penh and Takhmao in Kandal province."
It should be noted that Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant Phase 2 has the capacity to produce 195,000 cubic meters of clean water per day, contributing to increase the production of clean water of Phnom Penh Autonomous Authority to more than 980,000 cubic meters per day to supply clean water to People in Phnom Penh and Takhmao City, Kandal Province.
At the same time, the state also opened the construction site of the third phase of Bak Kheng water treatment plant, which will increase the production capacity of 195,000 cubic meters per day after the completion of construction in the third quarter of 2027. .
It should be reminded that the first phase of Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 195,000 cubic meters per day was officially opened under the presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia on June 19, 2024.
According to HE Aun Porn Moniroth, the three-stage Bak Kheng water treatment plant is expected to cost about $ 660 million, including $ 410 million in concessional loans from AFD and concessional loans from the European Investment Bank (EIV). $ 100 million, $ 26 million grant from the European Union and $ 124 million contribution from the Phnom Penh Autonomous Region.
In addition, the three-stage Bak Kheng water treatment plant will have a capacity to supply 1.2 million cubic meters per day when the third phase is completed in 2027.
