      It's because he's doing the thinking for you. The questions he asks are very leading. You look at a position and think "What should I do here?" while he asks "How do I dislodge the bishop and open up the king?" The second question is a partial answer to the first.
      This is why understanding your openings (at higher ELOs) is so important. If an opening has typical ideas, then you need to know what they are to understand what you should be looking for.

    These videos are so clear, every time you explain a move/concept it makes total sense. Applying them in-game however, is a different story. Constant blunders seem to be inevitable for me

    • @joeymurdazalotmore6355
      @joeymurdazalotmore6355 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo please no blunders r normal. Machines r not.. Im a ruthless b x f7 player. In alot of games its a straight blunder thats assuming perfect play from ur opponent and its literally invisible to engines n invisible to people.. But blunder is a bad term. U got delicate kids. How bout bad move stupid n a slap instead of blunder. ?? Instead of blunder say no stupid. Idk take the potency out of blunder. Its not a variable 15yr blunder. Its a board game. Enjoy chess chasing chess isnt enjoying it. Dissecting losses and wins when u pick em off any scalps r saved for u by lichess top 5 scalps. Its good cause ul see outta 3000 games my best 5 at 5min flat games r beautiful but there cherry picked and me being the same primitive thinker just by looking at every piece b4 moving it saves me from innumerable self induced harm which il figure out how to get beat if im.not being beaten i love chess more then it loves me.. But i enjoy 5 minute ea no increment. First it wrecked my game then it drew me bac like crack pulls its victims but now i just see differently. Alott of smarter people start analysis live n eventually after eons at some point can actually almost stay with him while abusing the pause button to stare at the board n run analysis by hand no engines. I dont use em unless i want my game degraded n scored by some program that i can physically relocate off earth n whos winning when ur pieces keep hitting u n themsleves. Gm in no time.. Im joking. I no nowadays sense of humor irony a clue is lacking in many nowadays im not recommending you to do what i do. Cause im me..ur you. Use ur powers of research or throwing a quick right hand but stay surprising ur opponent n always gets a win. Even when u lose.

    I don't comment often, but I wanted to say that I've been binging your videos for about the past 2 weeks straight - this series, the Blitz series, and other ones like your positional/tactical walkthroughs. You're probably the best chess teacher/coach I've ever seen, and I have a stack of notes dedicated to basically extrapolating everything I can from your videos - hook pawns, detailed opening explanations, how to approach certain types of players, principles like the 3 move planning rule, etc. - along with an online study containing all of the interesting tactical combinations/motifs that I come across like you recommend. I've hovered around 1350-1400 for the past 2 weeks, but even on your ~700-800 rated Blitz games, there were still things to learn for someone 600+ points higher.
    I wanted to ask, would you ever do a video on how you/others go about post-game analysis, whether for your own games or students'? I know that you analyze each of these speed run games, but you always know exactly why an opponent lost and how to explain it in a way conducive to learning. Is there any sort of structured or step-by-step way for someone like myself, who doesn't always know the reason as to why I lost a game or how to apply that analysis to other games, to analyze them sufficiently and actually learn from them?

    • @DonFreeq
      @DonFreeq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think there is unless it's a clear blunder. It'a just a mix of experience, opening and structure knowledge, dynamics understanding and weakness recognition. You need to understand why Fishy is suggesting particular moves and once you are able you will learn a lot from analysing. However, If you don't you will be able only to recognize clear mistakes and inaccuracies. Issue is there is no step-by-step shortcut for understanding engine suggestions as it is based on all above which is summarized by term "chess skills". You can go further into lines to see what happens if you don't get the move, also compare various lines, but that's all she wrote.
      My advice in case of not getting SF recommendations and wanting to learn from it would be to run your game through and each move try to identify 3 candidates moves with pointing out the best. Than look at SF moves - 4 or 5 lines needed - and compare them with yours. Whatever move you had and it is not listed, put on the board and try finding out what's wrong with it. If there is a clear best move which wasn't your top guess - do the same. If you +/- matched SF go further. Be aware that SF kinda "thinks" in 3 dimensions with added time to 2d board. Weaker and average chess players still haven't developed that skill and they look for general rules to emulate and compensate time factor as they don't see in their mind possible upcoming positions. SF gives a damn, so if the move is good on general grounds, but you don't have time for it it will laugh in your face. Vice versa also happens - for example at position after Qxh5 Fishy wants highest tempo move available which is... Kf2. I fully get why, but at first glance may look odd. When looking at games from engine perspective you really need to put extra emphasize on time/dynamics/tempo factors.
      You also need to know that very strong players have insane spider senses - they know whether move is good or bad before they even understand why. Its just an experience. Coming with explanation if you already know the answer is easier task.

      @Melissa B. I'd love to, but they're all on paper and even if I could, my handwriting isn't the most legible. Personally, I play on chess.com, but for things like opening theory, pattern recognition, etc., I use Lichess. If you go to Lichess and have or make an account, then under the "Learn" tab there's a tab called "Study." From here you can create new studies, throw in mainline moves, add sub-variations, type notes on moves, use the engine, all of this. It might take some tinkering to get used to using but it's very helpful.

    1:09 What if opponent goes Bh6 in his next move, practically forcing us to trade our good bishop?
    I had this position many times and I dont know what to do. Sometimes I play h6 a few moves before to prevent that kind of a trade, but I dont know if its correct or if I waste a tempo.

    • @DonFreeq
      @DonFreeq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      d5 stops it. General rule is that if you see that possibility you strike either in the center or continue ongoing attack so in both case white has no time for Bh6. Sth like h6 and Kh7 may work, but may be tragic as well. Other possible option if you aren't fast enough in the center or on the other wing is moving away rook from f8 and after Bh6 just going Bh8. Keep in mind though it's last resort solution - sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not, so you need to evaluate every case on it's own. Forcing queen trade is another way to solve an issue as with queens off king will be no longer in danger. However, in most cases if that happens you were too passive in the center or on the other wing if 0-0-0 have been already played.

    9:38 you could sneak and fork his Queen and King if you play Qa3 and if he didn't see it and played h5 , you drop the hammer bc3 and fossilized her Queen and give his King a check. If he sees it , he will unpin and you just take a free pawn . Now you have an outside pawn which is a monster pawn

    • @the_nephandi4551
      @the_nephandi4551 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it's not forcing white's Bishop to move : you can just add a defender by playing C3, and yes Black won a pawn but not the exchange.
      Also, the Dragon's Bishop is worth more than a Rook in the eyes of many players, and I think it's the case here (E4 is isolated and with white king still in the center, is an horrible weakness that is going to fall sooner or later - and more sooner than later. Open great diagonal rules !)
      Also also, if white Bishop takes black Bishop, it allows some counterplay with ideas like QG5 - QF6 - QG7 mate (not going directly QH6 because Queen can go back to E4 with check and pick-up the Bishop)

    Nc6 accelerated dragon would be:
    e4 c5
    Nf3 Nc6
    d4 cxd4
    Nxd4 g6
    And the Najdorf accelerated dragon would obviously be:
    e4 c5
    Nf3 d6
    d4 cxd4
    Nxd4 g6
    But which to use when?
    And what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

      The “najdorf accelerated dragon” that you described is just the regular dragon, which usually leads to opposite side castling, so if you like these kinds of positions it’s a good opening. In the accelerated dragon both sides usually castle in the kingside so it’s not so much an attacking game

      I guess thats true, I could possibly find this in a longer game. These titled players are just so quick and sharp tactically, I am just saying that no amount of opening preparation will help you to get to this level. The higher rated you get, the more specific the reasons you win or lose. This game was a good example: his opponent hardly made any mistake, but still lost 3 pawns. Only because of specific tactics did Danya win those pawns.
