Yay, I finally found my old specs reviewed on this channel. It served me well for 4 years and was the gateway into pc gaming - coming from ps4. It was definitely struggling in 2020 and the moment I said I have to upgrade is when Flight sim would run at 1fps in some cities. Now I have a desktop that I built that digs a grave for it - In 4k! It has an rtx 3080 and a 5900x and it literally 10x's it in both CPU and GPU benchmarks. To say it was just a marginal upgrade would be a huge understatement.
My upgrade was from a 1050 laptop to A rtx 2060 laptop and I can't even stress how amazing this experience and upgrade is. U jumped from a 970 laptop to a 3080 desktop!! Must be crazy, enjoy it.

Sick dude. I used to be into pc when I was younger , never had a nice one and I just made the switch from ps4 to my first pc. I ended up with a Rtx 3060 and a 3600 . Not quite as powerful as your set up but I love it with my 2k 144hz monitor
@@Remonzo100 Yes I can with the 3080. Obviously not with the 970M though. That thing will struggle with 1080p medium nowadays due to its pitiful 3GB of VRAM (lucky if you got the 6GB model. It will go a bit further). But the 3080 can chew through any game on Ultra (or slightly modified optimized Ultra), even Red Dead Redemption 2 or God of War. Flight sim was the only challenge so far but its a game that is before its time for graphics since it will probably have to last 10 years before a new one.
I recently benchmarked Gears 4, 66 fps at 1080p high settings. Tomb Raider 2013 around 70 fps at 1080p high settings. Couple more data points for anyone curious. Also, 970M is easy to overclock for about +10% performance with MSI Afterburner. Add 135 to core and 300 to memory, quick and easy and no tricky vbios change required.

I remember back in the day, when first 970M laptops came out.. They were the shit, the cream, the best combo of efficiency and performance. Everybody wanted one. 970M was like 750ti on desktop. I had an 860M in my laptop, and I remember the 970M being like.. 70% faster. Was a good card.
3080 max-q and 3070 laptop benchmarks came out recently and the 3080 seems to be ahead of even a desktop 3070 and the 3070 seems to be almost on par with a destop 2080 super so yes these new mobile gpus will be amazing
Actually hyped about this video. I have a laptop with an i7 6700HQ, 16gb DDR4 2666mhz, and the GTX 970m. except with a 1TB M.2 SSD, 500gb M.2 SSD and a 2 1/2 inch 240gb Sata SSD. I got a video on that on my channel too haha. and as of now, can confirm performance with Cyberpunk 2077.
Nice! I Still use My MSI laptop with 970m and i7420hq. I got it back in 2015 when it was the newest stuff on the market. High end computer in its time. I never thought i would get 6.5 years out of it, and i used it ALOT over the years. I dont get as low temps as you, but it differs from model to model. I Always took care of it, changing the thermal paste and cleaning the inside/fans of dust like Every second year. It is however, time to upgrade :)

@@damage968 I'd say get a 2070. 3000 series are gonna be hella expensive. This 2070 can still do everything at high 1080p60fps(even cyberpunk). Ray tracing is still not good even in PCs and I hardly expect next gen laptops to do any better.

I loved this era. For reference a GTX 970m is roughly a desktop GTX 960 or the Radeon equivalent a R9 280. These were all you needed to max out battlefield 4 at 1080p back in the day :p
I've got an Core 2 Quad Q8300, 6 gigs of DDR 3 RAM and a GTX 1050ti . So I like to watch your videos because I'm glad to know that there could be even worse setups.
You know, it wasn't that bad! It was playable for most of the games you played. I'd say it holds up very well. I'd feel like 30 plus is playable for casual, and 60 plus is good for competitive!
I have a laptop with a 6700HQ and a 960M 4GB with a 500gb SSD so this video kinda showed that I can still use it for light gaming. My desktop has much more modern specs but if I ever travel again, I'd dust off that old laptop.
By looking at this video, i'm now interested in that laptop model... For the price it is now, it can run pretty well newer stuff at low settings, and that's nice (and obviously everything else will perform perfectly)

warzone is actually not as bad as people make it out to be. Theres many many other games that are worse off. EFT for example. I get 300+ fps on my 3080 in warzone... 100 in EFT.
Old laptops like these are cool and it's fine as long as you get a good price... I got my nephew one with a 970m for like 250$ BEFORE the pandemic started... Prices have gone kinda crazy since then... Thinking of putting a 1060m in it though at some point lol

I have build a new PC (5600x + 3070), just because I had 6 years old laptop but i7-4510u, GT 840M and it could only run games before 2014 and CSGO/Valorant on low settings. But glad I build a PC now, running everything on 1080/1440p ultra. 💙It's a different feeling.
Tip: When on warzone and you need to install shaders or even cold war, back out into the menu where it gives you the option where you pick what mode you want to play such as mp campagin etc, its faster because it doesn't load any graphics. Idk this works for me, it installs shaders faster.
I’ve got a 13 inch i7 7700HQ gtx 1060 6gb laptop and games run great. I play games even at 720p because the screen is so small it doesn’t look so bad and I can set the graphics higher.
I have a laptop with i7 6820HQ With Nvidia Quadro M4000M 4GB It can run almost every game at ultra and high settings very good GPU. Edit:- I forget to tell my laptop is 17 inch
People keep complaining about playing games at ultra settings. But one fact that I want to point out is that even if you play the games at ultra-low/low in 2021, it will still satisfy you in terms of graphics.
You might wanna repaste it and OC it, on GTA 5 i was almost on max settings (just not the crazy textures that would eat 8GB Vram) and high shadows, and i was at 80FPS in 1080p in multiplayer while recording, also you have a few stutters. Else i think the boostclock isn't stable and it'd be the laptop engineers to blame xD
Look at the temperatures, no issues there. I also find it hard to believe your i7 6700HQ can get 80 fps in GTA online while recording. My old r7 3700X got that and it's a much more powerful cpu.
Tips in laptops for more graphic and fps : don't play at 1080p low with just 30 - 40 and bad graphic . Play it at 720p high settings with 60 - 70 its better
I had an acer notebook with the same processor and gpu for 2 years before I put together my first budget all amd build with a r3 1200 and rx570 and compared to all the laptops i had before it, the performance was incredible... traded blows with my 150$ phenom x3 gtx 750 1gb build for bottleneck reasons obviously but still good power for a notebook!
I think is a good choice even for the future , the 970m can even run latest games because it has a full dx12 support (12.1 feature level). For 30 fps experience to reduce cpu usage i think will be a good choice. Really not bad for a 7 year laptop
Dude this has the exact same specs as my older brother’s old laptop!! I got to use it for a bit but then I got an HP notebook since my dad needed it... it was amazing while it lasted and it was the only time I ever played games with high settings still maintaining lots of FPS.
I've got an Asus gaming laptop with a gtx 970m and intel core i7 6700HQ and lemme say it's actually really good. it can get a solid 60fps 90% of the time on 1080p and sometimes even 1440p
Ive been using this graphics card for about 5 years now. It still gets me by but I can tell the time has come to upgrade so Im going all out and trying to build my first PC

Using the same gpu aswell and been looking at 2070 laptops but i'll wait until 30series mobile gpus come out to purchase my next gaming laptop

Picked up a 2016 razer 14 basically same stats but the 6gb version. Love it!!!! Never though it's be rocking a 970m
