This was so satisfying to watch you (the master) building out your creation space. Beautiful job my man! I'm so glad you had the clarity about the resistance, the absence of such a space was generating for you.

Tyler is exceptional. Hard worker - smart - gives a sh*t about others - and is not afraid to buck trends. Had to have him on:-)

TOBY! You should go enroll in WWA and document your journey as a student there!! That will be great exposure for WWA and also great for your TH-cam channel!!

I love this discussion I have to ask a hard question though, how many of these jobs will not be easy to replace by robotic?

most--simply because the nuances of specific troubleshooting and "gut" tweeking the truly skilled develop--simply cannot be reproduced in a binary manner--It's been tried. breaking down gut instinct into binary--ain't happening for now.

Welding seems like one of the few jobs where you are rewarded in proportion to how hard you work.

I did construction 80s and 90s and the saying was welders are a dime a dozen, if I had to do it all over right now I’d become an electrician because they do the TV the Internet, the phones the alarms computer they got it all and it’s cleaner, and you get to be a Primadonna

I think that's why, if you're going to be a welder, you have to travel where the lucrative work is. Trying to build a steady high income from welding in the hometown, as a W-2 employee, is probably not going to be possible. I also believe, like you, that electricians are in much higher demand than welders. Having stated that, I like to buy old junky automobiles for pennies on the dollar and use my welding and mechanical experience to build them up and save untold thousands of dollars, investing the savings into commodity stocks. That's a lucrative method of operation, provided you don't have a heart attack first! 🤣

When I was a kid people acted like being a tradesman was a bad thing and you must go to college. I wish I took the path of not wasting money in college. I knew I was never going to be able to be a pencil pusher all my life and having to deal with the business type of people. Was a huge waste of money for me. I have considered taking welding classes and other trades for the knowledge alone.

Not in my community it was school or trade.
My Dad was a welder, he had to quit school to help his family.
He also worked in a factory. I miss him so much ❤.
He did have to get a skin draft from an accident.

I also finished university with a BA in business. The only thing I consider worth what I took away from college was Spanish, Japanese, and public speaking. All three of those require one to be high strung because passing those courses demands being a motor mouth in front of large groups of people. And a high strung motormouth with an excessive amount of energy has absolutely no place as a DESK jockey stuck in an office environment. Needles to say, I have spent my career as a licensed aircraft mechanic and a truck driver, and I wouldn't change a thing. Had it not been for the GI BIll, college would have been a huge waste of money for me as well. Welding is something I consider to be a hobby, and that's something you can teach yourself through lots of practice.

    Not worth it,
    The fumes,
    The eye 👁️ strains,
    The cesspool of coworkers,.
    The kitty litter restroom conditions,
I can go on, it’s a terrible line of work.
    Mostly felons and dopes.
    Scallawags 🏴‍☠️

As an employer, drug tests are set with levels where it will trigger the positive result. I will never forget doing a random drug test in my Vegas office about 10 years ago and having a few employees some in an confess. The funny part was they all tested negative. They were not daily users and it did not impair their ability. Kinda like drinking an driving is not illegal - it is driving under the influence that gets you busted.
