  • Will show you how to easily set shapekeys to have your eyelids open and close. This tutorial was done on a "separated" eyeball and eyelid, but the same principle applies if you are doing this on a modeled face - just remember to hide any parts of the mesh taht you don't want to affect.

Are you using a 1:1 monitor? Why the square video format? I am very curious.

That one was recorded on a square monitor.

Exactly the tutorial I was looking for but I can't get the shapekey working properly. When the shape key value is at or around 0.5, the eyelid goes inwards instead of following the curve of the eyeball, and at extremes (0 and 1) it is in the correct shape. What I've tried so far - Applied rotation and scale but that did not fix it. Recreate the same thing in a new blender file but even that did not work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Shapekeys unfortunately work like that. The vertices will travel the most direct route from 0.0 to 1.0. More or less a straight line. They don't account for that fact that it needs to go around your eye.
To avoid the eyelid intersecting with the eye, set the shapekey to 1.0 (100%), go into edit mode and pull the middle part of the eyelid forward so that it is not too close to the eye. When I say middle, I mean the horizontal edge above the edge of the eyelid (which makes contact with the other eyelid) and below the eye socket edge. Test again at 0.5. If the eyelid still intersects, pull those middle vertices forward again. Rinse and repeat until it doesn't intersect at 0.5.
If this doesn't work, it could be that you don't have enough edges across your eyelid, so you will need to add more and just make sure that they are far enough in front of the eye that they don't intersect at 0.5, but not so far that it looks crazy at 1.0.
Hope that helps, if not, let me know and I'll make another video just to clarify that.

@@pmdesigns5798 Tried the vertex pull method. Kind of works but leaves a gap when the value is at 1. If I decrease the gap it intersects. Also added subdiv just to see if it helps, it didn't. I'd be glad if you could make a quick video just to see if I'm doing it the right way.
Also, really interesting to see it works for some blender users but doesn't work for some. Wonder why is that so.

It's just about the shape pf the eyelid and the location of the verts. That's why some can get it to work and others can't.
      Message me here; blenderartists.org/u/pmdesigns/
You can upload your file, or even an image of your model.
I won't have time today to make a video, and I'm sure you want to get this fixed ASAP.@@yuvrajpreetsingh591

So just a question from a total noob here. I'm doing more of a cartoonish eye, so the eye is a lot taller. Would that have any effect on why when I try to rotate the eyelid up after the shape keys part, my whole eyelid starts to rotate instead of just the planes I have selected? Thank-you!

    • @pmdesigns5798
      @pmdesigns5798  ปีที่แล้ว +2

For a taller eye, the opening shape would be a bit different, but it's still the same process. When you are using the proportional editing, roll your mouse wheel up and down to increase/decrease the area of effect. That's probably why the whole eyelid is moving - the area of effect is too big. Sorry for the late response.

      Most likely location or rotation

Once you've made the shapekey, hover your mouse over the shapekey value at 0 and press "i". Then change the value to 1, and press "i" again, while your cursor is hovering over that shapekey value.

WHY IS THE CURRENT ROLLING 90 DEGREE THE EYELINES ARE DANGED SO MUCH? AT POINTS 0 AND 1, THEY DOESN'T SHOULD THE BLOOD BE DANGED, WITH THE VALUE IN THE INTERRATIONAL 0 TO 1 THEY ARE DANGED?
