Im gonna try to use my bullman platform ROS and attach the v-step with my ros strap in conjunction together... platform & ring of steps set all on one ratchet strap ! Use a piece plywood in v-step for platform ... Or would the v-step platform/ plywood be extra and unnecessary ?
It wouldn’t be necessary I’d think. Sometimes I will use the inside of the post to push off of if needed. It really just depends on how comfortable it is for you!
I would recommend shortening your bridge and lengthening the tether so you don’t get in a bind when going around the tree. OR if you know you’re going to swing around the tree then pull some slack in the tether to eliminate the binding.
When I'm hunting I will keep just a little bit longer of a tether so that it doesn't bind up, just kind of depends on the tree that I'm in. I haven't had any issues with binding while I swing around the tree, those huge trees will just require a longer tether if I'm sitting in one of those. I appreciate your advice! Is binding an issue that you've dealt with?
Just got these steps, they are kinda hard to set in a tree that is not completely straight and they do slip a bit. They definitely take practice. Also not as comfortable as I was hoping for long sits.

I’m liking it so far! It’s very quick and convenient up the tree. I can just leave my backpack on and everything I need to set up, minus camera equipment, is in that sling bag. It’s a Wild Edge step bag, so it has plenty space.
I’m pretty stoked about using a ring of steps this year. I haven’t used the eastern woods steps. You’ll have to let me know what you think if you go with them! My concern with them would be if they’d kick out on you with side pressure.
I must disagree with your assessment of making so many movements on the same side of the tree that the deer is on. In heavily pressured areas that will get you picked on a high percentage of opportunities if pursuing mature bucks. In lightly hunted or managed areas as most TH-cam videos are filmed in, you can get away with those movements, but on heavily pressured public, not so much. A ring of steps is for moving around the tree while keeping the tree trunk between you and the deer as a hiding buffer. From the 180 degree backside of the tree from where the deer is, you can easily lean to the left (if right handed) and take a shot while keeping your body hidden. You also didn't cover large trees where you must use a ring of steps to shoot 180 degrees. To be perfectly honest as a 40 plus year saddle user, in the size of tree your demonstrating from, a hang on stand user could shoot entirely around the tree just as easily as a saddle user.
Hi John, I appreciate your feedback. Mind you that this is a product demonstration video to help folks who are trying to decide between a platform or a ring of steps. This is not a full tutorial video about how to properly use a ring of steps or set up in an actual hunting scenario. So, the tree I chose was for demonstration purposes, nobodies going to hunt out of a tree that small. The movement that you’re referring to was me demonstrating the worst possible outcome for a shot opportunity. You’re correct, with the ring of steps, you use the tree as a block, placing it between you and the animal. What I was showing was the ease of being able to take the shot that you don’t set up for, the shot that surprises you and usually happens fast in the dense cover that we hunt on heavily pressured ground. A comment that you have made in the past was that you don’t think you’d been able to harvest as many bucks throughout the years if you were hunting out of a stand vs a saddle and I agree 100% with that, my Kansas buck last year was prime example of that exact point. I appreciate the info that you have put out throughout the years. Hunting heavily hunted ground my whole life, I have related to your information and have been one of the guys that I’ve learned from throughout the years to help me shoot these big bucks on public ground and film them. I hope that you have a full season planned and have a lot of success this year!

I use my one stick platform ( big bob from ooal) and 4 bullman steps. Simple easy and smooth to get around the tree
That's a fantastic system! Y'alls one stick platform is pretty legit also.

Love my 6 Bullman ROS but use a large Tether mesh bag not smaller stiff Bullman bag.
There you go. I'm using a larger bag myself and just carrying my whole set up, including the ROS, just slung over my shoulder.

I have not! I’ve seen that method, but haven’t personally tried it.

The ocb buckles work but not near as good as a ratchet strap. Just hold the gear levels back when tightening so they're quiet
