LOL you caught such a random event… but it looked kinda fun! Pretty typical for a small town type of event, it’s more of an excuse to get out of the house and have a burger than anything else.
Don't worry Dan, next year is coming São Sebastião's Canada Festival with bagels and Justin Bieber' best impersonator (1st prize is a Margaret Trudeau biography).
My town was founded by Latvians, but the neighboring towns of Santa Barbara do Oeste and Americana were settled by well, Americans. And I'm very thankful to them for all the industrial inovation they brought. My family is in the textile business, and despite its decline after Lula and the socialist mafia favouring the chinese takeover, its still the strongest textile center in Brazil. PS: They do STILL celebrate the "Confederate Party/Festival" and no, its not racist.
Well, in my experience most countries around the world already think of Canada as basically the USA. If you are wondering what Canadians think, I'll bet that 90% would be strongly against it. Those who would want to join would be mostly wanting more job opportunities or the retired Canadians who spend half their life in Florida or Arizona already
If you're already being bossed around by the president of the US, might as well get a vote. Better a state than a territory. Many countries in the world have essentially Puerto Rico's status right now.
Hi Dan I had to laugh at the Tex-Mex. ALL Mexican food in Brazil is Tex-Mex with heavy Brazilian influences. I went to a Mexican buffet restaurant in São Paulo. Here's the thing. There are no buffet restaurants in Mexico. That's a very Brazilian thing. In Mexico it would be considered very odd. What do Brazilians really think of the US? A couple of Brazilian friends and I were talking about the recent US presidential election, before the results came in. One friend said "I don't like Kamala Harris." Why not? "She's much too conservative." US citizens wouldn't understand that way of thinking at all.
lol that was pretty random. I thought something like that would be found in Americana, since it received immigration from America following the Civil War.
I think this event actually had some big controversies, because the official flag of the community was actually the confederate flag. And then the Brazilian government banned it, but the community argued that it doesn't have the same meaning as it does in the US.
Como já disseram inúmeras vezes. Os brasileiros como vc são mais críticos com o inglês dos compatriotas do que os próprios americanos, ingleses, etc. Sindrome de vira-lata.
@@Mongoose-ct6us The modern day hamburger is very much American. If you do proper research you'll know Germany was practically responsible for naming a slab of beef the hamburger. You're stating a common misconception that tries to undervalue what America has created lol

What a mess. Let's start with the fact SOMEONE thought in 2024 it would be necessary to have an "American" Festival, as if we didn't get enough of US culture. Then... PIZZA? Like, for real? I mean, if at least it was in Americana or Santa Barbara D'Oeste, sure, it'd KINDA make sense.
Donald Trump was invinted in the best restaurant in Paris in the Eiffel tower and he asks for a burger . Americains are fat , uncultured and eat at McDonalds outside USA.

It's amazing how different countries interact and connect through festivals and traditions! Looking forward to more travel content like this, Dan! 🙌🙂
Lol that's classic Brazilian randomness. Cheers dude, try visiting Cambury or Baleia since you are so close there

If you’re still in São Sebastião let me know, fellow Canadian here, I live in São Sebastião, happy to give you a tour :)
That Neymar Jr. looked like a caricature from Jim Crow days. SMH😔

Hamburgers are German so are Hotdogs if you think about it. Hamburger is named after Hamburg, Germany.

Yup but McDonald's is American.
