    I'm a white man who grew up in the US legit not knowing what racism was. I have family members that are black. My family racially integrated years ago, so this concept about "race" was totally foreign to me. It just didn't make sense. To me, it was like hating a member of your own family, because my family was made up of all colors, shapes, sizes, and ages. That's how it always was. Then, I realized that there was, at high levels, integrated racism, from POLICE FORCES, and GOVERNMENT. I was blown away.
    Some of the people that represent us, are despicable, racist bigots, and yet, they stand on their podiums, begging for more tax-payer dollars and support for government overreach.
    Couldn't be happier to see people diving back into what I consider "classic rock", and finding the incredible lyrical gems within.
    Thank you!!!

    Zachary de la Rocha: Mexican-American singer. PhD in anthropology.
    Tom Morello: African-American guitarist. Master's in political science from an ivy league school. The most innovative guitarist in all of rock 'n roll. Ever.
    That's the reason those lyrics remain relevant and timeless decades later. The guys who play bass & drums are amazing, but those two are some of the most electrifying front-men ever.
    Listen to Bulls On Parade, then listen to Denzel Curry's amazing cover.

    But just had to tell you, it’s wonderful to see people reacting to RATM. But to see you guys actually listen to it and truly understand the lyrics is the best part.
    For me growing up this song was just a song I listened to, in the dressing room as a pump up song before hockey. As a white dude from Newfoundland Canada that’s what this song was for me. But for you guys right now, it’s legit life. And that sucks. Keep safe, keep watching more Rage too. Peace and love.

    I saw Wu Tang open for Rage back in like 95-96 my senior year in HS at the old Continental Area in NJ. Zach was going nuts on stage during bombtrack then all of a sudden dropped.
    They took him off stage for like 20-30 min. He came back all of a sudden going just as psycho and put on a hell of a show, as well as a killer show by Wu Tang.
    We read in the newspaper the next day that Zach had shattered bones in four places in his leg. The man rocked out with a basically useless leg!!! It was epic!!!

    This came out in the aftermath of the LA Riots in the 90's...after the beating of Rodney King. RATM are deeply engrained in equality and in the fight against injustice. This band, and their message, became an outlet for what many of us were feeling at the time. Rage changed the rock world.

    • @kristylopez6869
      @kristylopez6869 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Listening to Rage back then was the first exposure I ever got as a little white girl growing up in the rural south to the idea that systemic injustice is inherent at every level in our country. I had Rage on a loop all throughout my teens and exploring their lyrics opened up an entirely new way of thinking and seeing the world for me. I'm a hardcore liberal to this day and this was where it started. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would say that either. Powerful lyrics.

    • @Michelle-ce1qh
      @Michelle-ce1qh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kristylopez6869 same. I grew up very naive and sheltered in a white suburban community where we never even locked our doors at night. The LA Riots and fallout from the beating of Rodney King opened my eyes to some of the real problems of the world. When Killing in the Name of came out...I found myself immersed in their message and that made me aware of the inequality people face in the world as well as the massive problem of police brutality our nation faced. I've been a massive fan since. Thirty years later their songs are more relevant than ever. But then again...the black community has been dealing with these types of problems for 300 years so the past thirty is literally just a drop in the bucket. Sadly.

    Interesting you say they're like a hip hop group. After the bassist, guitarist, and drummer from RATM were in Audioslave (another great group) they formed another supergroup called Prophets of Rage. That group was the three members of RATM, Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy, and B Real from Cypress Hill.
