It is so simple to understand, render unto Caesar was the cion that was made by man and give unto God was the tithing of the people according to the law.

Wrong. He trapped the pharisees with that. He wasnt saying give anything to Caesar. His response was predicated on all things belonging to God. They asked him if it was lawful to pay taxes to caesar and he said “give to caesar what is caesars and to God what is Gods”. He made them choose between declaring Caesar over God with their own questioning because their law is God comes before all and no sacrifices to other gods.

@@Afrohorse92now certain Christians are trapped into slavish obedience to their government on the basis of this and other apparently/overtly pro-Roman statements in the church writings

This isn’t seen as the interpretation of the scripture….ofc Jesus doesn’t want us to choose Caeser over God but he also knows if he says choose God over Caeser that all the Jews (his followers) would be killed for treason or rebellion. remember our God is ALL KNOWING but also a God of REASON, and he gave the most logical answer Jesus couldve gave without denouncing God. Render Caeser back what is his (man made coins) and render to God what is Gods (your ultimate belief in and submission to). So both Caeser is “satisfied” and God is content, and it’s not about pleasing both instead of just one God because remember our God does not care about material things and denounced idolatry, so whatever someone gives to satisfy Caeser is okay since God will not be jealous of such material item

Just a note: 10% of Tithe used to go to the store house and 90% of Tithe was used by Widow, Orphan, Homeless and poor. One can check the breakdown in The Bible.

Ever wonder why this question would be seen as a trap? That's the first question. Find that answer, and the rest comes easy.

I understand this differently, though I am no believer.
The virtue of justice consists in treating each as they deserve to be treated, and to give to each what belongs to them.
Caesar is no exception, he too is bound by what is right, and you should give unto him that which is his, that which belongs to him.
What truly, rightfully belongs to caesar, but those things you would willingly gift to or trade with caesar?

Thanks for this. I’m still a little confused.
If I’m understanding correctly, rendering unto God means to also render God’s image toward Caesar? To do this isn’t to have armed revolts or curses at Caesar? Then rendering unto Caesar his image, let him live in his own delusion as being a god, but don’t let that delusion hinder you reflecting the image of the Creator God?

@@JohnDoukasPhotography Perhaps stated another way it will become more clear. What do you think a pious Jewish person would answer to this question: What is owed to God? The answer would be everything. If everything is done for the glory of God, then what is left for Caesar? The answer is nothing.
The Pharisees and Herodians were attempted to trap the Messiah into speaking open treason. If he had openly said do not pay the tax then it would have been undeniable treason, so he took the coin -- as the Professor Wright did and asked them whose image was on the coin. As the Professor points out from a Jewish prospective (and later Christian) the coin itself represents a form of idolatry. It declares the Roman emperors divine.
So, right there in their hands they were in violation of the first and second commandments -- the first commandment being to place no other gods before God and the second commandment being against the creation of idols. So, right there in his hand, he held the idol that they were serving, and when he said 'Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.' -- those who were pious in the crowd knew exactly what he meant, including the Pharisees and Herodians. In this way, the Messiah could speak the truth without falling into their trap.
So, to answer your question once again, the reason that the response is so good is because Caesar is owed nothing. If the Pharisees and Herodians wish to argue that they have divided loyalty between Caesar and God, let them. If they want to justify their idolatry, let them. The people, in that moment, saw who was speaking truth.

@@JohnDoukasPhotography nothing. Rome fell. The God of the jews (Jesus, who all the old testament prophets prayed to) doesnt allow offering to other Gods before him so when Jesus answered, he reversed the question on them, he wasnt saying pay taxes and love God but instead that God is to be served not caesar
