This is unequivocally my favorite drummer and has been for years. Masterful.
No need to say a word about his unique skills - what makes me adore his playing is intelligence. He is able to tell a story, he has melody , harmony and colours. Don't know any comparable drummer .
+FrancescoGuardi it seems to me he came out of dave weckl (when weckl played with balls, in early 90´s, late 80´s ... ) weckl also told the story and made harmonies and colors ...
+miles 178 Maybe you're right. But I've never been fascinated by Weckl like I'm by Townsley...
it´s fine ..... my fave is Gary Novak, ´cause has his own chops, fills, more jazzy, bebop, funk-ish .... so is Nat ... Nat is sooo precise, tight, perfect .... I used to love weckl, but not in these days ... lost lots of "tight" ideas, fills (because is focused more on grubber´s moeller fluent motion/rebound method)

Nathaniel Townsley is my favorite drummer the whole world bar none! No other drummer plays with such creativity & taste. Very interesting playing and never predictable like too many drummers are.

It's just me or this sounded like true music? Not drum solo. Nathaniel is amazing. Yeah, it's not just me the dude below said everything. Melody, harmony and color.
Then you see videos of joey jordison with 1000000000000 of views, most underated drummer ever, a master class.
can someone tell me what the sticking is starting at 1:46? he uses that pattern in almost all of his solos.
