This one I really needed..Excellent video...Bought the troubleshooting meter...Still learning and it feels great...Thanks again for a great teaching session...It helped me learn.
Great video I use a Universal Zebra ECM tester that will analysis multiple brand ECM motors with different wiring harness attachments.keep up the great work !!
I'm curious how you determine the entire ECM is good by simply turning it on?? How would you determine if the motor will "vary" the speed or torque? Seems like there is much missing from performing a complete test of the motor. Thanks for posting.
MJ, the motor manufacturer made the tester and if you apply power to those terminals, it will tell if the motor will turn on and if it will ramp up and down improperly. If that is working then the rest of the programming is usually in tact. Then you can test the actual airflow volume using the temp rise formula, hot wire anemometer, static pressure aligned to the manufacturers specs or another method, thanks!
My squirrel cage is jumping all over. I opened it up and it wobbles. Do I need to replace the whole assembly or just the motor? My guess is that the bearings in the motor are out. But the mounting cushions are suspect also.
My question more than anything is what makes the ecm go bad so often? I am about to be on my 3rd under warranty and warranty runs out in about 15 months which is about how long this last ecm has lasted. The company doing the repairs told me power going out is the biggest cause but mine doesn't go out very often.
Does the DC Millivolt portion of the motor control module need to be tested or does that section never fail? can the motor run fine on the 24 volt AC input but not ramp up or down with DC Mv input?
The 24v is for testing and it wont communicate back and forth with the board to ramp up or down. Some manufacturers will give you DC millivolt communication voltage to read with a meter but it is simpler this way, thanks
On these carrier models. Put your negative multimeter lead on the green wire and keep it there. From green - red 12vdc from green - yellow 5vdc and green - blue varies 1vdc.
The way you bypassed the board and provided the motor terminals with 24vac on the bottom left hand terminal, would bypassing the board this way for short term period cause any damage to the motor module ?
I jumped 24V to test my motor and it will initially ramp up for about 2-3 seconds then shut off, then my status light shows comm fault. Any ideas? I'm using a regular thermostat for a carrier infinity system, I'm wondering if this is the issue?
Over 40 years hvac experience have ecm motor that worked properly now runs backwards is motor shot never seen this before. Reversed former connection's no change replaced former with 75va no change runs fine in reverse. Is there a solution or should I replace motor
Wondering why you mention "microvolts" without stating the voltage range and whether AC or DC, and if DC, then which polarity is required? Or PWM, or whatever. 0.001V, as 1 millivolt 1mV, and 0.000001V is one microvolt, 1 uV
After replacing the thermister, a year later my carrier infinity main blower motor (GE 1/2 hp 08/22/00 CNO2 011DH7) is making a intermittent high pitched whine (g#5 note) when on first stage. What would you suggest I check or do?
I am getting 41 error I checked the blower motor sending 24v and it ran fine but I am not getting 24v out of the board on the connector wire color green and blue while cooling for blower to run would that be bad board? than you very much
Im having an issue with my blower only running on a low speed (freezing up the ac line outside) The errors I am getting indicate restricted airflow. All vents are open, filters are clean and unit has been working prior to this issue. I used your method and the blower kicks on and runs at high speed as it should. After hooking everything back as it was i started it again and the blower ran a little higher then before for about 30 seconds and then dropped back to low speed. Does this mean the ECM is not my issue?
Did you measure the output voltage from the TechMatePro ? I saw on one of the HVAC blogs, where connecting a 9 Volt battery to the control leads would run the motor at half speed.
The output from the tecmate is only 24v. That tool is what is recommended from Genteq themselves. If you were to measure dc millivolts then you would need the manufacturer's troubleshooting guide to see exactly what the sequence of numbers would be thanks
@@acservicetechchannel ... so the tech mate pro sends 24 volts AC to the motor module to test but the OEM circuit board sends DC Milli Volts to communicate.... ??? so 24 volts AC will not damage the module electronics????
If this type motor fluatuates in speed, then after a minute or 2 runs consistently, then it is possible that the module is bad? Or adjusting to static pressure? Replaced 1 a year ago, but new is been doing this for a few months now.
hey this is great info... but my motor has different connections. guess it may not be an ECM. essentially connections are Line Ground Neutral Common and Speed and Aux Heat. i am trying to test the blower as it comes on intermittently.... maybe 50 percent of time after having everything powered off for 30minutes. to try to use your testing method of power just the fan... i am trying to determine what the Rx would be. my Rx from thermostat goes to transformer where Brown(Common) gets 24v. the motor is a BroadOcean (in a Carrier blower unit). any guidance or another posting that provides such guidance?
