Geto gets away because despite having the strength to kill him it'd cause collateral deaths and he's not willing to kill civilians (this gets used against him again at Shibuya). He handily defeats Jogo but leaves him alive specifically for the chance to get intel out of him, only for Jogo to get stolen out from under him by Hanami, winning the fight but failing the objective as he neither got information nor killed the special grade curse. The moment he breaks the curtain at the goodwill event Hanami's like "Aight, I'm out", and despite using hollow purple he doesn't kill the curse there either, and because they were distracted by that he didn't catch on to Mahito stealing Sukuna's fingers or the curse wombs. I think why jjk doesnt have the considered power of friendship that other anime have is because instead of having a scene where the mc gives a speech about his friends then one shots the villian they have yuji and the others just straight comboing beating the main villian
JJK is basically a more grounded, realistic take on the power of friendship. it doesn't magically fix any problem or make you invincible, but goddamn, friends who've got your back in a crisis end up basically being the only reason you even survive that crisis
The latest chapter highlighted something very important to me. That the reason Sukuna hates Yuji so much is because he is a person satisfied with not being the strongest or number 1 in his universe because he has already selected the role he wants to fill of his own making. He permeates the concept that when working optimally, the many will always overcome the one. Standing in solitude is not a demonstration of honour, power and confidence but in fact is a rejection community, evolution and strength in unity.
The strongest single human would lose to a small group of friends. We are stronger as a community. Survival of the fittest in humans refers to strongest cooperation.

Havent seen the full video, but my interpretation is that Heian era sorcerers threw everything away for individual power in a "survival of the fittest" mentality while modern sorcerers prioritize community and strength as a collective. This was so good, thank you, subscribed. One of my favourite anime/manga tropes is the character who can mimic other people's abilities, but usually that character doesn't get to the top or is undone by an individual genius in some way. JJK features a lot of mimics now that I think about it, but especially Yuta and Yuji. Its refreshing to see them presented in a different more positive way within the manga and also for Yuji's borrowing or copying of others protrayed as a strength in the way you describe at the end, rather than a good but ultimately limited ability as is usually the case.
Something I think about is how Gojo says “Jujutsu is an individual sport” and how I think Gege goes out of his way to prove that wrong on several occasions. I think maybe Gojo can only see jujutsu as an individual sport because he has been forced into an individualistic practice of jujutsu. But in reality the real jujutsu is the friends we made along the way
In jjk 0, maki said that the weaker the curses, the more likely they will stick together. Most sorcerers are inherently weaker than the curses, and yet, through companionship and teamwork, they can bring down even the strongest of foes. It's something that Sukuna will probably never recognise, because he's only looking at the strong.
I feel like gege actually found q way to deliver Naruto's intended message of collectivism, cooperation and bonds surpassing individual talent, because 80% of what yuji is as a sorcerer is because what other people gave him, kenjaku's disgusting body modifications, Sukuna's twisted existence inside him, Gojo's, nanami's, Todo's, kusakabe's, instruction and everyone else who has trained him, *BUT* , the crucial aspect missing from naruto is that yuji was only able to become what he is because of his unwavering determination, his rock solid mentality and all the sacrifices he had to make, including the people who gave their life for him. I love that Yuji's autonomy gets constantly taken away not only by monsters like sukuna and kenjaku, but by his own companions who put their lives on the line for his safety because they believe in the change itadori can bring, that's why higuruma's and choso's deaths are so unbelievably soul crushing while Neji's death only felt like a cheap trick for Kishimoto to have less loose threads to tie at the end. TL;DR: Gege is an incredible writer.
Naruto in the other hand like every other characters in jjk really needed to want the power and needed to train with determination for everything except for Hagoroma's power
@@ConstantinDOSSOU-vy1zo 1) No, not all of his power, only the opportunity for him to grasp it. He was given the door and the lock, he needed to create the key by himself to open said door. 2) Yuji decided to sacrifice his life to save multiple people by running into the school to save his friends and clubmates, by eating the finger to save Megumi, by deciding to give his life in a sacrifice to kill Sukuna for good, by jumping into mahito's domain to save Nanami without knowing he was immune, by deciding to become a cursed spirit killing machine only preoccupied on the obsession with exterminating all of them as he told mahito in Shibuya and countless other times. His life was sacrifice, sacrifices by the people he lost to help him and sacrifices by himself to help the people he cares for. 3) Naruto was gifted from birth with inhuman levels of chakra from a clan famous for their chakra pools and sealing jutsu, given a free infinite energy source in Kurama that even while not directly helping him, he could just use at will, he magically learned a jutsu that completely brakes the logic and mechanics of the world by conveniently giving him infinite training time in seconds. He didn't have to train to use multi shadow clone jutsu, he just magically could after being explicitly stated as being remarkably awful at cloning jutsu, but perfectly doing a massively more complicated one out of thin air. He was conveniently more adept at harnessing nature energy than the literal toad sage and was the first person in history to reach the true toad sage mode, while also not even coming close to any of the drawbacks or dangerous parts of using that energy aside from the brief moment in training. Kurama was conveniently rewritten from a merciless demon fox anxious to devour Naruto and everything he held dear to a goofy puppy that because best friends with someone just because he called him by his name. And if all of this wasn't egregious enough, he's then revealed to be the reincarnation of a moon god and given the power of said moon god. Every time people help each other in Naruto, Naruto becomes stronger, every time people help each other in JJK, society becomes stronger. That's the difference in messaging between both series and why jjk's message hits while Naruto's fails to deliver. Have nice day.

@sobbinglunatic3095 They mean it as ganging up on someone. Traditionally in slang 'jumping' someone means taking them by surprise (essentially an unfair fight). 'Getting the jump' on someone is derived from this. More recently in slang 'jump' seems to be being used to mean ganging up on someone (when taking someone by surprise it could often mean being ganged up on ie: I was walking down a dark alley when I got jumped by 3 guys').
In general I think relatively new shonen like MHA, BC, KNY and JJK tend to have more focus on group fights compared to the Big Three, Jojo, Toriko, Fairy Tail and the like. Of course those older series have group fights and the others also have 1v1, but as a trend I feel like it tends to hold true.
One of the reasons why I like JJK so much is because Gege understands fight choreography and what makes interesting/fun fights. The matchups make sense, so when the time comes for a "jumping," it holds so much weight. My biggest complaint (which is rather small in the grand scheme of things) is that I wish we got to see other characters work together outside of Yuji. We did get Yuki/Choso, Everybody vs Dagon, and the whole verse vs Sukuna, but I would've loved to see Todo and Yuki, Gojo and Nanami etc.
Fuckin’ *phenemonal* video, this is my first time seeing your name pop up on TH-cam but you’ve got a new subscriber!! I absolutely love JJK, and have always felt the exact same way about the concept of multi-battles like this; it’s such a wonderful way to contrast with other shonen. Typically arcs would begin with two groups whittling down each others numbers until a big 1v1 at the end; whereas JJK is the opposite, a myriad of individuals goals and ideals converging on one spot into all out gang warfare. Noble fighters like Yuji and Megumi, mercenaries like Noabito and Mei Mei, and forces of nature like Yuta and Gojo all having very different reasons for getting involved in these climactic battles doesn’t just give us a variety of characters to play with at the end of an arc-- it’s the very reason why they’re not all on the same page at the beginning!! They’re all coming from different places (literally and metaphorically) as they’re drawn into the major conflicts, so they’ve all undergone some amount of conflict or growth by the time they reconvene too, meaning every time Yuji and Todo team up we’re looking at a different version of their team.
I assume they always jumping because their opponent is much stronger than them. Most of the cast are grade 1s or lower fighting Special grades. So teaming up on them is a given and makes more sense than other show where someone clearly stronger than the mc's side somehow loses in a 1v1. The grading system is what grade curses they can take on and make it back alive. It would make no sense lore wise for them to be able to win in 1v1.
Yo amazing video you put together here. Really makes me want to go back and re-read some of those amazing fights. No spoiler warning near the end of the video though. You threw out a lot of stuff I haven't read yet. Lots of others may not have as well my guy
I always saw Itadori as a vessel for Sukuna, but now I know he's much more than that. He's the vessel for the hopes and dreams of others through the many gifts they have given him.
I completely thought this was about the genius of actual jumping to add more dimensions into a fight. There is the incredibly obvious benefit of jumping to dodge an attack but jumping's weakness has also been explored with the mid air attack by Hanami against Yuji and Todo as well as Yuji getting surprise attacked while jumping down stairs
It also allows characters to have weaknesses but not falling into the classic shonen trope of the character constantly powering up to defeat whatever's infront of them. Having a squad of high intellect, high physical and high skill fighting on their strengths while having their weaknesses covered is dope.
Honestly, I largely appreciate it just because it makes sense. There are faaar too many shows where the entire team just stands around watching their buddy get clapped instead of helping.
Phenomenal video. The exact idea that you are pointing out is perfectly demonstrated in Haikyuu. If you are unaware it's a sports anime about volleyball. It's very good imo and the culmination of the second season is that the entire team is working together like cogs in clock to make it work. Anyways love the video man.
It's honestly why I was always okay with the pacing and not having filler with JJK, while characters as a whole are not explicitly written out to the fullest/or having multiple side characters interacting with other side character, I felt that how they fight shows damn near just as much about them.
Bro you need to make a video on Inumaki and how broken he can be if he reached his full potential. Just imagine him killing characters via voice commands while also simultaneously using RCT to heal his throat so that he doesn't get any backflash. Genuinely the strongest power by far.
I mean to be honest they need to do that for some people all I got to say is that yuji had to work for his power and I feel bad cuz I'm telling you right now nobody would ever want to be in his position in life he has the top three worst lives next to guts, denji
I'm a bit sad that I got spoiled a few things, watching the video... But they're things I expected to happen so it won't ruin my surprise watching the next seasons. This was a great video though. I think one of the things that also makes jumping more important is that a lot of these sorcerers don't really wanna go through all this shit. They're going along with the requirements of being born into that world, but they're not so indoctrinated that they would act as serious about it as a shinigami or a ninja. If things don't have to be troublesome, let them not be troublesome. And then you have crazy (and strong) characters in the mix so of course they wanna band together Salmon roe
there's one more aspect about jumping that is not mentioned here: curses and sorcerers powers alike get to certain highs where a "fail" one on one fight would be a death sentence, a domain expansion can be an instakill move for example, so jumping your enemy and not letting them act or fight comfortably is key for victory, or at least survival. The Sukuna gauntlet or Yuuji and Nanamis's jumping Mahito are key examples of this. in the first case Sukuna would not have been defeated if he wasn't always having to deal with several people messing with him, stunlocking him or doing ambush damage, he would just open his domain and nuke his opponent, rest, rinse and repeat (he is a literal end-game raid boss). On Mahito's case, him being unable to even move by getting punch stunlocked denied him the ability to even make an offensive move until he developed his domain. Of course the tactical aspect of jumping is not the point of the video at all and i stongly agree with your take on the writing aspect of it, but i felt like i needed to point that out or else my autistic brain wouldn't be satisfied. great video ^^
I genuinely thought this video was going to be about the ways they do big jumps around the battlefield, and was confused but intrigued. Have to admit, this is probably both more interesting and accurate though!
JJK has been the most real and sincere study of the "All for one" vs "One for all" mindsets I've ever seen in a shonen, which is funny because that's honestly what most of them are about. I think this final battle between Yuji/Gang Vs Sukuna has been the ultimate version of that argument, with the protagonist and antagonist each truly epitomizing each way of life. The funny thing about that though, I think Sukuna lost that argument the moment he relied on the ten shadows technique to defeat Gojo.
Yeah man we all got to remember the reason the sorcerers and some times Curses go 2/3 vs 1 cause certain characters in the factions are city to calamity level of power or even have the skills and technique to take on multiple opponents which why i dont mind when Itadori teams up with others cause one he hand to hand focus character who is inexperienced in the sorcery of Jijitsu along with the Sukana take over problem also certain characters like Megumi and Maki versus Nature Curse Spirit forget their name & Yuji & Nobara vs Kezichu & ??? Perfectly represents these type of fights to survive and even have some remorses about killing sentient beings despite their origins
The frequent many-on-one fights in JJK also serves to elevate the stake of the battle between humans and curses while highlighting just how dangerous the opponents are. There's no room for playing fair; honoring the 1-v-1 is not a luxury the Jujutsu Sorcerers can afford when the fate of millions of people is at stake.
Jumping the villans shows how strong and they are , if your jumped you 100% deserved it like hanami mahito and sukana,. Unless your gojo but hes the 1% so it makes sense if you need to jump him to stand a chance.
There’s a lot of people who should watch this video essay who are misunderstanding a lot of core themes in JJK imo. Say it louder for the people in the back 🗣️ 🔥💯
Fights in JJK highlights compatibility, strength, and finesse. You aren't beating someone just because you remember about the promise you made with a friend 10 years ago. If you're outmatched, you need to fill in the gaps with numbers and even then it might not still be enough to overcome experienced fighters. Example, Kenjaku manage to defeat yuki, choso, and tengen trio, but almost lose to takaba (basically a newbie with OP technique).
sooo jumping puts all the characters involved on a "table" of sorts which presents their unique flavors against the other unique flavors on the table, making the different character traits really feel like they are being properly emphasized.
Ok one thing about the Nobara caring less about other lives than Yuji. Yuji knew that they weren’t curses yes, but he would be happy to kill mahito for harming innocent lives so why would he care about the cursed wombs? Spoilers! The cursed wombs were his brothers, it’s showed that choso has a sort of telepathic attachment to his brothers and Yuji being a cursed womb felt a little bit of the telepathic death after killing the cursed womb brothers.
He says that itadori never becoming more important then the whole, which is true, but this also highlights a very large part of the story, there was someone who was more important then the whole, gojo, thats the reason why he was sealed during shibuya, thats the reason he gets killed by sukuna, its not because he was weak or unimportant to the story, he was killed and sealed for the simple fact that he was just too important
Lowkey I like to think of the character dynamics in these jumping to be like two mirrors. Each person skills, abilities, and personality is reflected off the other’s in a fight so we’re able to see characters in a more nuanced way in comparison to the others around them.
The reason I love the jumping that the jujutsu sorcerers often do is because they do it against someone who is trying to "take" from others or is siding with people that do. It makes the jumping justified in my opinion.

I think why jjk doesnt have the considered power of friendship that other anime have is because instead of having a scene where the mc gives a speech about his friends then one shots the villian they have yuji and the others just straight comboing beating the main villian
Most shonen has the power of friendship
Jjk has the power of homies got yo back
Jjk has the hood version of power of friendship
JJK fights in a nutshell :- jump on this nig....
JJK is basically a more grounded, realistic take on the power of friendship. it doesn't magically fix any problem or make you invincible, but goddamn, friends who've got your back in a crisis end up basically being the only reason you even survive that crisis
First rule in jumping: SHOW NO FEAR‼️‼️‼️
Fr no fair fades in jjk
The latest chapter highlighted something very important to me. That the reason Sukuna hates Yuji so much is because he is a person satisfied with not being the strongest or number 1 in his universe because he has already selected the role he wants to fill of his own making. He permeates the concept that when working optimally, the many will always overcome the one. Standing in solitude is not a demonstration of honour, power and confidence but in fact is a rejection community, evolution and strength in unity.
Based comment.
The strongest single human would lose to a small group of friends. We are stronger as a community. Survival of the fittest in humans refers to strongest cooperation.
@@rikusauske Exactly, that's why social Darwinism always fails.
@@markd.9042 social darwinism ironically is self defeating, as without a society promoting people based on THEIR strongest talents and instead focusing on a preconceived notion of excellence which cuts down on innovation and doesn't foster people who could be spectacular.

so interesting that Todo is introduced as this individualistic solo powerhouse but them we come to know him as one of the best, bro-y-est support characters in shonen
Havent seen the full video, but my interpretation is that Heian era sorcerers threw everything away for individual power in a "survival of the fittest" mentality while modern sorcerers prioritize community and strength as a collective. This is why gojo could never win from a writing standpoint, they have to win together.
@@Arctic7985 and which sorcerer does uraume likens to those in the heian era? Hakari, the individualist and gambler, the one that hasn't yet jumped sukuna
I feel like the Heian era sorcerers were too busy perfecting their techniques and probably fighting Sukuna to get that title as strongest ngl
There's one thing in Jjk that hypes me up without fail, it's Yuji and Todo jumping someone.
Danm this is one of the best analyses of JJK I've seen yet! I always love when small, seemingly insignificant parts of stories reveal something much greater
But in reality the real jujutsu is the friends we made along the way
😅
" 80% " ? Correction it is 100% , he is the only character of all his power was decided by others
In fact Yuji never sacrificed anything , people are just dead because he couldn't choose it is all
Naruto in the other hand like every other characters in jjk really needed to want the power and needed to train with determination for everything except for Hagoroma's power
@@ConstantinDOSSOU-vy1zo
1) No, not all of his power, only the opportunity for him to grasp it.

PLEASE keep liking Naruto, and DO keep seeing value in it, because there are great things in there and some great ideas even if the story eventually lets those ideas down. but you've gotta start accepting that the things you like may have huge flaws. you're not stupid for liking something with major flaws, what's stupid is thinking that something being imperfect means you can't like it anymore and thus creating bizarre lies in your own head about how it's secretly the perfect story and other similar stories are somehow worse for no reason
The way people were jumping each other from the jump in this show solidified the danger & the stakes of the fights.

I’m not a native speaker, what does jumping in this context mean?
@sobbinglunatic3095 They mean it as ganging up on someone. Traditionally in slang 'jumping' someone means taking them by surprise (essentially an unfair fight). 'Getting the jump' on someone is derived from this.
More recently in slang 'jump' seems to be being used to mean ganging up on someone (when taking someone by surprise it could often mean being ganged up on ie: I was walking down a dark alley when I got jumped by 3 guys').

It’s the only way we can appreciate true bromance

1:18 Nobara look so happy 😭 😭 😭
A series worthy of being published in Shonen Jump.
Its hard to break a curse by yourself you need friends.
@@SLTTPOH BARS!
"Nobara's departure" the newest chapter breaks it XD

I feel like it’s the MOST realistic thing.
It can get tired with every series doing the DBZ “take turns” type stuff.

And then you have crazy (and strong) characters in the mix so of course they wanna band together
Salmon roe
my normal brain thought 'jumping' as like...
the act of springing into the air
Day 1, I’ll be keeping track brother man. a good video to start off with for sure 🤝🏽
there's one more aspect about jumping that is not mentioned here: curses and sorcerers powers alike get to certain highs where a "fail" one on one fight would be a death sentence, a domain expansion can be an instakill move for example, so jumping your enemy and not letting them act or fight comfortably is key for victory, or at least survival.
Of course the tactical aspect of jumping is not the point of the video at all and i stongly agree with your take on the writing aspect of it, but i felt like i needed to point that out or else my autistic brain wouldn't be satisfied. great video ^^
when it comes to videos like this for JJK, you're truly sublime. It's like you're painting on thin air
Jjk was always about realistic fights and in real life jumping is common.
With such a silly title, I didnt think I'd be getting a Ted Talk.
One of the good ones, I mean.
God, not only an even-handed power scaler but an accomplished analyzer of themes? Screw it, SUBSCRIBED!
So very well presented, damn.
Sukuna = King of Curses
Yuji = King of Jumpings
When you are not the main character jumping is the domain expansion
What I love about jjk is there jumping in the same time not like other anime
When you look at it, Todo helped out in defeating 3 of the big villains in jjk.
Jumping the villans shows how strong and they are , if your jumped you 100% deserved it like hanami mahito and sukana,. Unless your gojo but hes the 1% so it makes sense if you need to jump him to stand a chance.

Bra what a good video man. So well put. Similar over arcing theme to my-hero but less direct and more palatable as far as relate-ability.
"1v1 is not an option in this world, we be teaming like the strongest battlegrounds" ahh the whole entire jjk story
sooo jumping puts all the characters involved on a "table" of sorts which presents their unique flavors against the other unique flavors on the table, making the different character traits really feel like they are being properly emphasized.
It's ironic that they're quick to jump somebody normally but for some reason against the king of curses the strat is to go at him one by one😭
Ok one thing about the Nobara caring less about other lives than Yuji. Yuji knew that they weren’t curses yes, but he would be happy to kill mahito for harming innocent lives so why would he care about the cursed wombs? Spoilers! The cursed wombs were his brothers, it’s showed that choso has a sort of telepathic attachment to his brothers and Yuji being a cursed womb felt a little bit of the telepathic death after killing the cursed womb brothers.
mahito is a curse, while the cursed wombs aren’t, and yeah, yuji could probably feel his brothers die like choso could
took me a couple mins to realise this was not about feet leaving the ground
He says that itadori never becoming more important then the whole, which is true, but this also highlights a very large part of the story, there was someone who was more important then the whole, gojo, thats the reason why he was sealed during shibuya, thats the reason he gets killed by sukuna, its not because he was weak or unimportant to the story, he was killed and sealed for the simple fact that he was just too important
wonderful video!!
