I injured my IT band badly on the WHW a couple weeks ago. I'm currently healing up watching this video and it's getting me motivated to get back out there once I'm fully recovered. Such a professional look to this video. Love it.
Such a beautiful edit...I could almost feel the pain in your feet whilst you dipped them in the water, how lovely to finish the hike with such wonderful people and they are so right to feel proud I just can't wait to take on the challenge. Huge congratulations...those smiles at the end fantastic as was the music definitely getting my sub@43 all the best Ana
Thank you Ana, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and hope it’s not too long before the pandemic is over and you can get hiking. As for myself, I am planning to walk the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path when this is all over.
Good job with the video. Really enjoyed that. The compositions were well considered and framing was excellent. I went into this expecting a run of the mill WHW video but definitely a cut above the usual. Nice work! I’m considering doing the WHW again this year. Such a good walk. All the best, Gordon.
I've been watching a few videos of the WHW as research for my trip at the end of September and thought yours was excellent. Beautifully filmed and inspirational. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Mike and good luck for your own WHW adventure. Make sure you take some walking poles with you. They are especially important on the Loch Lomond part of the walk where the terrain is treacherous and that’s where most of the ankle sprains happen. In this video, Tony suffered what turned out to be a broken fibulae on that stretch of the walk.
Great video I've done this walk a few times and it never gets boring and watching your video brings back some great memories. Really professional and stunning shots Well done 😊😊👍👍
Loved this! Amazing shots and well put together. One of my favourite WHW videos! I’d love for you to do more! The mileage info at the end was super helpful, too.
Amazing video. some great scenery captured and expertly edited together. I love the wee mini interview at 22:50. Sums it all up perfectly. p.s - Subscribed to your channel because of this video.
Hi Tony, At the time I used Meindl leather boots but I suffered with blisters. I have since switched to Salomon gortex boots, one size bigger than my shoe size.
What a fantastic video!!! we are planning to do the WHW in april 2021. looks like you had very nice weather, passing the devil's staircase in a t-shirt!! was it early or late april you went? thanks again for this fabulous video
Wonderful film. This is perhaps the best clip on TWHW I’ve seen. Well done!! The scenery and vistas were showcased, making me want to lace up my boots and hit the trail. Richard, I’d like to know what camera was fastened to your stick as you walked..
Hi Laurie, thank you for your comment. The entire video, including the hand held shots were done on the Nikon D810. For the hand held shots the camera was mounted on the tripod and held facing me. Very heavy I can tell you!
Just finished a solo hike of the West Highland Way - messy and imperfect, but anyone interested can read about it at www.5foot1ninja.com. Safe travels all.
An interesting article Kat and thank you for watching my video. I think the key to completing the West Highland Way is preparation. I trained for 6 months and lost 2 stone in weight, joining the gym and doing many local hikes with full pack, though I wasn’t camping and therefore my pack was lighter except for carrying camera gear and tripod.
Richard, I've watched a few videos on WHW and yours is the best I've seen so far. Very well done! I was going to do it this year, but now it looks like May 2021. Was there a midge problem for you, and (as I'm planning to stay at hotels/BBs) are there any I might avoid? Howard
Hey Richard, when in April did you walk the WHW? I am thinking of walking it early next April, but am worried it might be too early in the year and still possibly snowing?
I did it in the last week of April, but only because I couldn’t get holiday time in May which was my preferred month. May is the driest month in Scotland and is still midge free.
Wonderful video Richard! I'm walking the WHW next month and am so excited. All fingers and toes crossed to get your weather!
You will love every minute of it Ruth. Have a great time!

Hi Richard, magic video, much appreciated, what boots do you use?

@@richsmartin Thanks Richard for the info.

Good vid but for the life of me I can't understand why you played music over the bagpiper. was he that bad? lol
Glad you enjoyed the video. I did try to include the bagpipes but it messed up the flow of the music.
Fishing is allowed?
How was the temperature?
Very pleasant. April and May are the best months to walk the WHW.
