    Day 4 - Tyndrum to Inveroran - 10 miles

      can you please speak to water availability? is it wild water that needs filtering or are there potable water stations along the way?

    • @GETtwoIT

      @@az55544 There is plenty of water availability on the WHW. From Pubs, toliets, public taps campsites, lochs, streams and creeks. We only had to filter water a couple of times when we wild camped.

      @@bigtommyg8315 There are thistle icon way markers at regular intervals which denote the WHW, so its pretty easy to follow. It is still a very good idea to bring a map of the route with you, as its not always clear where to go. We used the Cicerone National Trail Map Booklet which suited our needs really well, its a small Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 map which can fit neatly in the trouser pocket.

    Oh Katie, you poor girl. I have done miles in boots over the years until pain (from 3 different issues) forced me to admit defeat. Or should that be de-feet…… 3 years ago I got back on a bike and am loving the outdoors all over again. It is not the same as yomping up the hills in a pair of boots, but I am overjoyed to have found some freedom to get out there again (in my 60s), get wowed by amazing views, feel the wind in my face, smell the trees and the earth, and listen to the birds. Hope you have found a solution to your feet problems.

    Great video guys! Having done it twice myself, the rocky sections along Loch Lomond and the Military road sections are horrible on the feet. Anyone thinking of doing it as a first long-distance walk would benefit from a good few 5-8 milers in the months before going (and a few 12-15 milers in the weeks leading up!) to harden up the feet. Poles are a great great too for the descents. The main ascents of Conic hill, Devil's Staircase and out of Kinlochleven (which is the worst IMO, especially with a hangover!) are not too much of an issue for most.

    For anyone watching this, a trick for blisters is Zinc Oxide tape (aka Leukotape). Wrap your feet in it, any hotspot areas. It's breathable, medical, and will stick for ages. If you use it on the prone-to-blister parts before hotspots occur you'll prevent blisters. So any noobs out there please read up (most hiking pages talk about Leukotape, so google for that, but Zinc Oxide medical tape from Amazon is the same stuff).

    • @GETtwoIT
      @GETtwoIT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Word of warning. Zinc Oxide can cause a reaction in some people. You can use alternative tape that is hypoallergicic such as microphone.

      Yea it includes a 750ml bottle of water, I want to try and keep my plastic consumption down so I’ll be filtering with a sawyer as I go, I just need to pay attention to upcoming stretches where water might be scarce and plan accordingly. My food weighs just under 2kg, mainly consisting of porridge sachets, noodles, trail mix, cappachino sachets and some more sugar rich snacks in case I need a quick pick me up. To keep the weight down I’ll be trying to use the local eateries wherever that’s an option, so in my mind I’ll only be eating my supplies at breakfast and the wild camp. I’ve turned into a bit of an armchair warrior while planning so hopefully the careful attention to weight will help with the huge 21 miles on day 1!

      @@GETtwoIT always tricky to get the right foot wear and even when you do it can still all go sideways because of terrain and weather conditions, as happened on my last walk where the only thing I can remember doing different was to wear shorts instead of tucking my trouser legs into my socks, tore my ankles up 😏. If any assistance can highly recommend Compeed Anti Blister Plasters, the big ones. I completely cover the balls and upper sides of my feet with two layers every other day when out, works a treat as a rule, and wear leather high back walking boots. I think I have watched this a hundred times. I love how you at least admit you cant pronounce the Scottish town and village names but make a good attempt at them. By the way you were not as bad as some I have seen / heard on here. I loved how Kate says Balmaha. That is very much my favourite village. Conic hill is great going up but as you pointed out it is a chore coming off the summit. I think the problem is besides being steep your already tired by the time you get there. You didn't show the oak tree inn in your video. These guys are well worth giving a little free advert. I normally just get beers there as it fills up fast for meals and not so big for the numbers that use. I have stayed in one of the annexes on my WHW and the room was fantastic. That section after Rowardeenan is tough. Im actually considering on my next trip to get the ferry instead to Ardlui and pick up the trail at Ben glas. Ben glas is my regular camp space on days off work. Good coach from Glasgow follows the route. Thanks for videoing your walks. I could talk all day about the WHW.

      @@GETtwoIT I watch all the WHW videos. Some people do a video covering each stage others try to cramp 5 to 7 days into one video. However you approach it, walking the route is tough enough without trying to figure great camera angles and there is so much to see. I do the route to beech tree regular as a return walk to Milgavie. Once pandemic is over I plan to do that again to include a visit to the distillery. other plans for day walks are follow the route to Balmaha or Drymen. A lot of these plans depend on if Im walking alone or with friends. Sad thing is I will be 60 on next birthday and want to do so many routes but friends in thier 40s cant keep up :) I look forward to seeing more of your walks and hope you will do the WHW again some time. Like me maybe skip that horrid section between Rowardeenan and just beyond Inversnaid. It cool. They cyclists do it just change into lycra shorts before you get on the ferry and nobody will know you are walkers cheating :)

    Hi you TWO :-) This is the second video of yours I am watching (the first was Hadrian's Wall). Thanks for sharing. I was just noticing that you are typically going 20+ Kilometers a day. That's quite a lot o_O. I do some hiking and long distance bikebacking myself (around 100km per day). My longest hike was the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain (a total of 400km). But there, a good day was 20km. You guys are going the equivalent of 30+ kilometres per day. Wow. Either "respect", or "you crazy". I know I couldn't keep up that amount of daily mileage on my 3 week Camino...

      @GETtwoIT  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching fellow hiker! We don't generally have a lot time to take off, so we make sure we can pack in all in by doing the miles. Happily, we have sorted Katie's shoe problem so doing the miles is more comfortable for her (by the way, the distances we cover are set by Katie). We think 15-20 miles (depending on terrain) is a comfortable amount to do in a day, allows for lots of breaks and photos. We would love to do the Camino de Santiago one day, its definitely on our bucket list!

    How did you get water when you hiked this trail, the Coast-to-Coast Trail, and Hadrian's Wall?
