Thanks for the info. My old phone seemed to be having some network issues and was unable to use the theme manager, or log in to either my Emumovies account or LaunchBox database account. So the manual route seemed like a good excuse for a tutorial.

Hi. I can't get past the update cores section in retro arch. I've used a BT mouse, wireless mouse, USB game pad and the supplied remote control for the device, but no button presses or clicks will open any of the menu options. I am trying to install on a brand new Android TV box running Android 12 with 4gb ram and plenty of space. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?. Thanks.
Is it just inside the RetroArch menu you have the issue? Have you tried a keyboard? If that works go into the retroArch input settings and see if you can map a controller from there.
What's your take on connecting devices that are not getting security updates to the internet? Do you have a separate account to your main google one that you log in to Android with to stop an attacker getting your main account if they compromise an old device?
I'm not too worried about the older OS on these devices. Yes, there may be some security issues but I'm not using these as normal devices. I setup inside my home network and generally turn off WiFi to save battery once it's up and running. Then just use the gaming apps as a local machine.

Most of the themes use cover art but you have to download it as part of the media scraping process.

I can't really say why that would be. Your phone should be OK. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
Does LaunchBox support mame4droid 2024?
I think so yes. You'd need to add it as a custom emulator in Launchbox.
