  • The San Luis Rey Band have called North San Diego County and Camp Pendleton home for over 10,000 years, enriching our region with their long history and vibrant culture. They consider it a sacred responsibility to preserve and protect their ancestral territory and have recently established a Native Coastal Conservancy, a fund dedicated to supporting their ecological endeavors.
With numerous partners, including the County of San Diego, they are steadfast in their commitment to honoring and protecting historical and cultural sites. For over twenty-five years, the Tribe has hosted the annual San Luis Rey Inter-tribal Pow Wow, promoting the vitality of native culture and people. This cultural celebration draws thousands from the region to enjoy dance competitions, drumming, and native storytelling, fostering a deeper understanding of Native American heritage.
In recognition of their contributions and cultural significance, we proudly declared June 4, 2024, as SAN LUIS REY BAND OF LUISENO INDIANS DAY throughout San Diego County. 🎉

My grandmother has told us we are San Luis Rey Mission band of Luiseno.
She grew up in the mission and went to school there until she was a teenager. Her mom is buried on mission grounds.
I went to visit the mission in October 2016.
We still don't and can't receive any recognition or benefits as the San Luis Rey mission Luiseno, and Mt. Laguna band are the only 2 not federally recognized.
There is no explanation how these bands are not federally recognized but the rest of these Luiseno bands are? Explain that. Everything is going to sound like bullshit until I get a direct answer how all these bands are recognized but 1 or w bands are not. Makes no fuckin sense.
All the proof is there, what more does the asshat US govt need ?
