People will say “so they want special treatment” no. They just want to be treated with respect to their culture and lives. As everyone should be treated.
No, they want to be allowed to govern themselves under their own laws & not be required to assimilate into US society. Basically, they want to form their own country(s) within the US & require the rest of us to support them financially.
When in reality they do deserve special treatment for everything that's been done to them and their culture. If any group deserves special treatment in the Americas, it's the indigenous people.

I live in a California town right next to a reservation and casino. I decided to find out about the local tribe here and they are really awesome! They even used funds from the casino to protect a huge piece of land here from being purchased for a rock quarry (those are really bad for local water and health). I’m so grateful they are such an important part of your local community. Everyone who lives in or near Native land should check out the history of the local tribes!
Was this Viejas?? I know the Kumeyaay even placed a rescue helipad right on the reservation and it serves San Diego and Riverside counties. The team is called REACH. They even bought thier own rescuce chopper. How they built up Alpine is amazing.
I fully support the economic independence of indigenous people but I still find it sad that our nation’s history has created circumstances where multiple tribes have to rely on casinos as the most viable method of acquiring resources
Our native tribe also has a Casino. I used to work there and the proceeds of the place go towards the reservation, their school and hospital and that was the first time I felt like I was actually doing something good with my time.

As an aboriginal Australian this is a story that repeats its self throughout the world it’s really sad love to native Americans we understand what you have been through
Some people who have lived on their lands for thousands of years are actually the dominant peoplew in their land. Look at the saami and the whole of finland. We have lived here as long as the land wasnt under permament ice
I don't ever want Native culture to disappear. It's a stain on history how Native Americans have been treated and displaced. The amount of original culture that was lost when they were uprooted from their lands and no longer had the same plants, animals, and surroundings that their unique religions and practices were built upon, it's heartbreaking to reflect on. They are a culturally rich and beautiful existence. Keep surviving and passing your culture to the younger generations. I don't have Native blood, so it is not my heritage to protect, but I hope the coming generations take as much pride and passion in their roots as those who came before them.
Did native Americans literally ran around rating other people's land all the time they uprooted people from their own lands and stole them. It just happens to be that the European colonizers were more advanced and had better stuff. We didn't walk in and start taking shit, there was already a land grab going on when we arrived we just ended up as the victors. Real History needs to be taught again
please protect us! it may not be your heritage to partake of the culture but it is good ethics to help protect the displaced in society. it's always good to advocate for us on the important things like landback and legislation!!!
Awesome people. My friend in our local Tribe held a healing ceremony for a friend in another state battling cancer. Why? Because I mentioned her in conversation. They put together a package for her.
The wise older woman says "We don't want to be treated any different than others" in especially terms of respect. We need to LOVE and Cherish our human family and never bring anyone to harm; All of us.
you contradicted yourself. the truth is they DO want to be treated differently. not only different than how we treated ourselves, but different than how THEY treated themselves and us. the audacity
My mother was very proud of her Native American ancestry that she made sure we became documented member of the Cherokee Nation, and had a custom jacket made after we went to a pow wow when I was a child. She wore that jacket for 30 years before she passed last year, and meant so much to her, that it was one of the special items to pass on to her loved ones. Even though I am the youngest, I had all the say in who got what.
I was just thinking about how we don’t use aspects of individual cultures in the business setting and why that’s not considered professional. I think it will be really interesting if everybody was able to incorporate certain aspects from their cultures into their work attire. I know that was pretty random, but your comment kind of spark that thought again.
@@hunnybunny20000 my workplace and many others I’ve seen have done this! As a man married to an indigenous woman from the Mohawk tribe, I have never felt more accepted and more welcomed than her people and her family. We can all learn a thing or two from their generosity and empathy
Even though I am native and grew up with it. It’s still so baffling that we as people are so generous and helping to everybody. You’d think through our past we’d be more secluded and not welcoming to outsiders. But it’s the exact opposite. It’s just the native way haha. Make love not war.
As a native man i can tell you because you are a non native outsider your wife got/gets piped down by her "native husband" on the rez and the whole family knows of it, it's a rez thing a native thing.
Yup🤔 When researching my genealogy, I discovered I am basically "3/16" Mohegan (from the 2 "sister tribes" out of CT & PA); so I did MORE digging. A "Native American Historical Preservationist of Indigenous People" originally from The Mohawk Tribe (& known as one of "the last shaman") helped me piece the puzzle together. I met with people from The Mohegan Sun & even did further research. My Irish immigrant ancestors (O'mulRyan's & Moore's) sought protection from NYC authorities [they were escaped "indentured servants"; OR better described as SLAVES) & found it with the Mohegan Tribes. It's a long story...I could expound more about what I learned; but it's a "novel"🤔
As someone with a lot of good friends in a local tribe, it’s really uplifting to see how united all of the answers were behind that same ‘we’re still here’ sentiment. That’s a powerful kind of oneness, you know?

think about how often you hear people saying things like "native americans did this..." "native americans believed that..." in past tense. they're still here. it does need to be said.
Or even saying "Native Americans" as if they're all one homogenous group instead of 500+ unique and vibrant nations with different cultures, traditions, lifeways, and histories.
@@insertusername310 I wasn't trying to imply there's something wrong with the term itself. Obviously there are times when it's necessary if referring to a heterogenous grouping of Native people. I'm just communicating what I've heard from Native folks in my life, which is that they get irritated when generic statements are made about the proverbial "Native Americans" as if they are all one homogenous culture and not many different groups of people with different ways of being. For example, sometimes people will refer to "Native American Legends" even though stories and folklore come from specific bands and tribes, they're not universal. Does that make sense?

No Considering a tribe didn't even use much land a couple hundred years ago, wouldn't it be normal to move a few miles away from them, use that land, and if you prosper start using more unoccupied land? Natives don't have it so bad. They own huge reservations, get to rent out their land, and also make big money with their casinos. Many of them live a very relaxed lifestyle. They deserved all the respect I love them all
We’re incredibly grateful that you’re still here. 🙏🏻
Why is no one mentioning how beautiful the traditional outfits are?! Stunning!
Very!
fun fact. native Americans didnt want to give up their slaves so they didnt. not until after the 1900's. they are also not the originals at all. they from asia. they enslaved all races, whites, blacks and even their own people. learn real history people. these people were not tree hugging sweet peoples at all. stop with the propaganda.
Really sucks so many Native American tribes either shrank or completely disappeared when Europeans arrived. Many millions of innocent people. They have a rich history, language, and culture. It’s crucial we try to preserve as much as their history as possible. Really sucks only a tiny fraction of the U.S. population is indigenous American. That percentage should be way higher.
By Europeans you mean the French, English and Spanish.
Europe isn't just those 3! They give us all a bad rep 😭
@@lumiauroras6741 Absolutely correct, as if some Balkan country ever had to do with the colonization of America bffr 💀
@@lumiauroras6741Portuguese too. But I find it funny how people try to dismiss their involvement. Do people from other countries ask Native Americans permission to enter the United States? By coming here aren't people affirming that they are okay with how things are? I have yet to see a world wide protest about the occupation of the Americas by Europeans, Africans, Asians, and Oceanians. The deed was done by some Europeans, but everyone is complicit.
@@jerrywhidby. haha what a delusional comment
They didn't go nowhere...been here the whole time. That's what they're saying in the video. They just live their lives quietly and don't loudly demand attention like other groups in the US. All because they are looked over or forgotten doesn't mean they weren't here.
Still here beautiful native Indians
I love our Native American brothers and sisters-they're our countrymen, and I dont know anyone who doesnt think so. They're the FIRST Americans, they are the Nations within our Nation, they helped to write our Constitution and they've been with us forever. God has created us all, blessed us with this life, blessed us with beautiful children that thrive together, we are no different from each other.
We are ALL American❤
God Bless you! I personally am grateful and happy you are all here! Much respect to all of you! ❤
@changthao4875 God is not responsible for what evil, hateful & greedy people do! I have free will to choose to be kind and civil and to share the world alongside people who may believe differently than I do! You have free will to stay ignorant and vengeful. It's a humans choice to behave how they choose to behave. I had zero to do with what happened to American Indians. Anyone I have ever met in my life from different American Indian tribes are welcoming people. They are not disrespectful like you. ALL American Indians existing today should receive some government land back! Lastly, freemasons are not my people. They do pretend to be. What happened to Native Americans is unfathomable and so utterly disgusting and heart breaking. I would put my actions, heart and mind against yours any day. You do not know me or God............obviously because if you did, you would know the history of freemasons and how they masquerade and fool people into thinking they worship & love God. They do not!!! Murdering people is not what God tells me to do. It's one of the 10 Commandments that greedy and vile people break. I wouldn't want to be them for a billion dollars. When God hands out consequences for murder, it is always harsh and so it should be. Their death bed is miserable & full of fear! Thank you for your comment. May God be upon your heart one day to enlighten your mind and soul. Evil people will unfortunately exist in this world til Christ's return. When Jesus does return, He will wipe away the evil! Praise be to God! I will pray for you this hour. God Bless you.
@changthao4875 I tried to reply to you with truths but utube took it down. Thank you for your reply that I absolutely disagree with. God Bless you! ❤️

One time, my dad told this floridian woman he was a dakota man, and when she spoke with my mother over the phone later, she was like "Yeah it's crazy he was talking about being from a tribe. Those went extinct ages ago." Then my mom explained that he was native and she herself was too (anishinaabe). Kinda wild and depressing people just think we don't exist anymore, and even more depressing how many of us have has zero interaction with our cultures.
Where I live in Tampa I’m pretty sure they were the seminoles.
A BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!! FOREVER!! I LOVE YOU!!
They are the real Americans
