Since punjab and Haryana is near Delhi , it is convenient for players to reach Delhi. I was living 1200 km away and got a call for national level competition but had no courage to go to delhi as no one was available to take me delhi.. but at same time Odisha govt was promoting their players ,. In my school my coach was even from Odisha.. hence we r talking about odisa where talented players don’t loss in absence of facilities.. my high jump best was 1.7 mtr at age of 13. Yes I m tall and I was practising since 10 years can’t continued only till 14 years and then left sports for higher studies..

At that time, Odisha's CM shri Patnaik ji stepped im and invested 100 cr!!! To sponsor our hockey team!!! And not just that, he builded the biggest hockey stadium in the world in odisha. Hockey is very much played in Coorg district of Karnataka . Many players from here have played for India but this year we did not have any. Never the less , we need to support hockey and give encouragement. hope Karnataka govt also provides good infrastructure facilities to improve the Hockey sport.

One more reason behind the increase in popularity of cricket was the introduction of ODI format in 1971. Before that, only test matches were played and many people found it boring compared to hockey as it was very slow but when odi came, people started liking cricket more.
Football can draw people in very naturally. It's one of the most easy to understand and follow sports there is. We just need proper league structures and their academies to keep refining young talent and it's only a matter of time when India will beat some big football nation and the sport will explode. But it's still a long way, China is doing all of this since long, even getting some of the top talent from Europe to play in Chinese leagues but still they don't come close to even qualifying in world cup like tournaments.

One more reason behind the increase in popularity of cricket was the introduction of ODI format in 1971. Before that, only test matches were played and many people found it boring compared to hockey as it was very slow but when odi came, people started liking cricket more.

Football can draw people in very naturally. It's one of the most easy to understand and follow sports there is. We just need proper league structures and their academies to keep refining young talent and it's only a matter of time when India will beat some big football nation and the sport will explode.
But it's still a long way, China is doing all of this since long, even getting some of the top talent from Europe to play in Chinese leagues but still they don't come close to even qualifying in world cup like tournaments.
