- A documentary about the making of the classic TV sitcom "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," with scenes from of the more classic episodes, and interviews with members of the cast and crew. With Edward Asner, James L. Brooks, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Mary Tyler Moore, & many more!
Back then (no Internet , no cable TV ), the average home had three TV channels.
(NBC, CBS , ABC).
The three networks competed fiercely, to create the top show.
The brand new shows, each September , were a very big deal.
If you had a hit show on Tuesday nights , and remember only three channels to pick from..
There might be thirty million homes watching.
Every week.
This is why actors became not just famous-- but superstars. David Cassidy (Partridge Family) , Maureen McCormick (Brady Bunch) , or Donny and Marie, became household names.
Another great show. A great time to be young and alive, with our families. Now I'm 60, both parents gone now and feeling so sad
I understand, don't be sad.. You're blessed with the family and friends, even now.
JESUS helps us carry on.. And my heart goes out to you. Both my parents are in Heaven. And my Brother.
So yes it's hard, but JESUS is Faithful.
Hang in there. You are not alone.
Great documentary! Thank you.
I don't remember people saying terrific all the time in the 70s but ive noticed in sitcoms in the 70s said that word alot and i love MTM SHOW
Imagine MTM airing between Hee Haw and Beverly Hillbillies. We probably wouldn’t be watching this video today!
I remember those Saturday evenings. Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, then Carol Burnet. Tough to top.
The casting was and never will be again as great as the cast of the MTM show not to mention the writers... I watch it to this day and im 75. Not one of these characters could have been replaced... Tku
I love Mary Tyler Moore I watch it over and over almost every two three months to this day l wish there was more shows like Mary Tyler Moore ❤
I have the series too & watch it once a yr or so.
That was a special show. We watched it as a family every week.
MY FAVORITE SHOW. STILL WATCH IT EVERY NIGHT
My favorite episode ever was "To Pube or not to Pube" in which Mary and Rhoda debate whether or not to shave off all their pubic hair. Phyllis ends up shaving Rhoda in Mary's bathroom (one of the most hilarious scenes of the whole series) while Mary chickens out and keeps her "Love Triangle".
I love MTM. I have watched so many of the shows. Being born in 1970, I remember that time as a calmer, less violent, more peaceful world as I escape in all the reruns. Mary was so lovely and smart.
Amazing, they're all gone. It's also amazing that the show had premiered one day after Jimi Hendrix had died, on the 19th of September 1970. A must watch TV show on Saturday nights. RIP.
The staff tried so hard because they didn’t want to let Mary Tyler Moore down. She was a huge star and everyone fell into line.
The music is excruciating
R.I.P Mary Tyler Moore.
LOVE IT ALL BUT that monotonous background “music” to this chat.
Adored writing, cast, direction, MTMS.
I've enjoyed the reruns for years now. However, I'm noticing more and more gets cut out, including essential parts of the story that when removed make it hard to understand the rest of a scene. All the extra commercials don't really make up for the lost jokes.
Carlton singing opening credits. Sounds like Carlton from Rhoda.
🧢The Hat? yes The Hat!!... I hope its in a museum😉😅
Great documentary about a great show and a great time in history! When was this done? All of these people are gone now! :o(
Talent, talent and kindness and no egoes!
I’m with you ……. I totally agree. It was a great time period. Lots of creative minds & good writers; willing to take a risk & ‘go for it.’That’s when television was at it’s best.
Me too ….. Life is short. Time flies …….
Find your bliss & go create🪷
This was so worth watching. Thanks! 👀
First, what's with that music? Kroiky!!
Second, for such a progressive show, this 'making of' lacked ... well, let's just say it was 100% WHITE.
What's your point? The main casts of Sanford & Son, Good Times, What's Happening?, The Jeffersons (to name a few) were BLACK!! ... People from all different races, creeds and colors watched these shows, and they often made jokes about their differences and stereotypes without people getting offended.
The incessant background MUZAK makes thins interesting looking doc unwatchable. No reason for it.
Agreed. Intrusive, makes no sense to have it there
Forget the background sounds. Focus on the presentation.
@pibly7784 hey numbnuts
We ARE trying to focus on the presentation
But the fricken mysic is to loud
What's that? Coukdnt here you over the damn music...
Good gawd... pay attention
Totally agree. Was there a time when incessant background music was a “must” for documentary / oral histories?
Bravo. Thank you!
What’s the actual air date of this?
Interesting historical information, but that incessant background noise ("music") is quite annoying. It is not value added in any way and only detracts from the interviews.
