Mary Tyler Moore A + E Biography Beautiful star of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show

  • This is the A + E Biography of my favorite actress, the wonderful and talented Mary Tyler Moore, who played two of the most iconic female roles in television sitcom history.
She, of course, was Laura Petrie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show", and Mary Richards on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". She could sing and dance, and had an incredible sense of comedic timing. She also could turn the world on with her smile ... and those *legs*!
Alas, she had a lot of hardship in her life, and this very well done 1995 bio, hosted by Peter Graves, covers that, too. RIP, Mary, we love you and will never forget you!
This has been out there on TH-cam, but it's presented in two parts and the sound/picture quality isn't great, so I decided to post it.
Copyright A + E, or any other party. I don't claim the rights to, and don't profit from, this video. I just posted it for historical and educational purposes, and for those who will enjoy it as much as I did.

Loved her in Dick Van Dyke- her dancing was always a treat. She really hit gold though with her unique comedic chops, and that signature "oh Rob". (lol)

I always loved Mary Tyler Moore as well and still watch reruns of both shows every day. She was hilarious, talented, sexy, smart, generous, charitable, compassionate, and beautiful. She is the embodiment of the woman every man dreams of having in his life. Thanks for the memories, Mary.

I watched The Dick VanDyke Show starting when I was 11 with my parents. Then in my twenties I watched The Mary Tyler Moore Show with my own little girl. Didn't she have a gift of the ability to give something families could really enjoy together no matter their age? It seems like she did. She dealt with such pain in her personal life with what looks like an enormous amount of grace. Such a special lady. I'm sad she's gone.

Thank you very much Peter Goodwin for posting this. Ever since "Ordinary People" came out I have believed that Moore is every bit as great an actress as the two Hepburns, Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, and Audra McDonald. Actually, as only the two hepburns and Streep were established Superstars then it is better to say, I believed MTM was as great an actress as any who ever lived. I still believe that

Ladies like her and Betty White allowed those to follow on .. rising on their shoulders. One strong lady who is sadly missed. A great documentary . We seemed to have lost this sense of … community, family time around the TV that connected us as families who chose to engage with each other through laughter and light moments. In many ways, Mary had a rather sad life. Her son Richie accidentally killed himself, her sister Elizabeth (21 years her junior) overdosed on drugs. Her brother John died young from kidney cancer. Her dad was a strict Catholic and her mom was an alcoholic. Mary was later diagnosed with type I diabetes and she herself had addiction issues. Thank goodness she married (much younger) Robert, a heart surgeon. Amazing that she could be perky and so loveable as both Laura Petrie and Mary Richards!

At 12:24 they said her age was 23 (and later so did Dick, but no filming at 23), when starting on The DVD Show. She had her 24th on Dec. 29, 1960, so the pilot filmed with her at 24, on Jan. 20, 1961, the day of Kennedy's inauguration. Alrhough she was the reported 23 when she was hired before Dec. 29. Dick was 35, on Dec. 13, 1960, when filming started on the next Jan. 20. The 11 years seemed too much to be readonable, but their chemistry was the best ever seen in a tv series!!!

If thru had fallen on a needle of picked the drug up THINKING it was insulin or something thrn THAT would have been accidental.
It's the sane idea as saying a drunk driver caused the death of a child "by accident" sincechecjad had too much to drink before getting behind a machine capable of killing.
Or even someone who shoots himself and the media called it an "accidental shooting."
My heart goes out to actors who were all neglected as children by their parents and started for affection. I am very sad with thr fact that Mary was buried ALONE!
